1 2014 Catalogue Edirisa Crafts is a project within Edirisa UK promoting and developing handmade crafts made locally by Ugandan women. By teaching new skills and preserving traditional crafts, this project gives women the chance to earn a living where income opportunities are otherwise scarce. We are part of the Fair Trade community and the women benefit from a stable business relationship and consistent professional training and product development. 2

Our fulltime tailors share their knowledge and skills, training women to make some of the products shown in this catalogue. Edirisa UK purchase all the products made to sell in their shops at Lake Bunyonyi and to clients nationally and internationally thus creating a sustainable income for the local women. Our workshops also include teaching English, basic first aid, health and nutrition, which are taught by our valued international volunteers and are imperative to improving the lives of the locals we work with. NOTE ABOUT OUR KITENGYE PRODUCTS: This quality fabric is 100% cotton, and will soften considerably after a couple of washes 3

We purchase the materials in Kampala and then sell them to the group for a small fee. We are constantly researching innovative ideas so the women can create new products, keeping it fresh, interesting and challenging, adding to their skills and knowledge. All profits are fed back into the groups through the various training programmes such as tailoring, knitting, English, health and nutrient (refer to info box page three). 5

We have implemented a child-centred method of education to enrich the Ugandan education system and have seen a marked increase in performance levels and are optimistic for the future of our nursery education programmes. Furthermore, Edirisa UK works in partnership with the Special Needs Education Centre in Kitanga, which is the only Special Needs school in the region. We have worked together with medical volunteers from Slovenia to provide de-worming for children, HIV testing and dental care.

We have worked together with medical volunteers from Slovenia to provide de-worming for children, HIV testing and dental care. We also run basic health and nutrition workshops including first aid. Our health clinic on Bwama Island, Lake Bunyonyi opened in The clinic was planned and completed with the cooperation of the District Health Office and equipped by the University of Slovenia's Tropical Medical School. It provides health services to all the communities around the lake. 21
