4 N EW YORK STYLE Elaine Sargent A trailblazer in Montreal and New York City, Elaine Sargent broke the glass ceiling as not only one of the irst female stockbrokers in both Montreal and on Wall Street, but also one of the leading stockbrokers in an era when women were almost nonexistent in the world of inance. Her keen mind and passion for the arts led her from Chairmanship of the Angel s Ball Committee in Montreal to being a great patron of the New York City arts including The New York City Opera, Lincoln Center Theater, New York Theater Workshop, Roundabout Theater, and to Chairing the Our Time Theater Company. Elaine established the Avon Chair dedicated to ovarian cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. In 1997, she founded a McGill University scholarship in the name of her late uncle, Dr. Arthur Vineberg, a world renowned pioneer of modern day heart surgery.

10 N EW YORK STYLE Wendy Vanderbilt lehman Wendy Vanderbilt Lehman was born in California to Manuela Hudson and Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt II, a pioneer in thoroughbred racing, whose father had gone down on the Lusitania. She grew up between Palm Beach and Manhattan. Wendy was featured in one of Lilly Pulitzer s irst advertising campaigns and attended the Truman Capote Black and White Ball in Known for her love of modernism, Wendy was greatly inspired by her mentors Georgia O Keefe and O Keefe s sister, Anita Young. Wendy s artistic expression spanned several mediums. Her work included extraordinary sculptures in wood and aluminum as well evocative paintings in acrylic and watercolor. In 2008, she was selected to be a part of The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Fifty States, which resulted in the placement of her work in museums across the country.
