3 Preparation: There is no preparation necessary, the resin figure comes ready to paint. Any slight imperfections can be lightly sanded. Wipe with a damp cloth. I like to do the face first, so, basecoat the face with Mocha. Shade the face under the hat; both sides of the nose and under the eyebrows with Shading Flesh. Highlight the center of the nose; eye area; & top of the cheeks with Natural Buff. Blush the cheeks; end of the nose and lip with Watermelon Slice (this will take a couple of applications). Fill in the eye area with Warm White. Fill in the eyeball with Victorian Blue. The pupil is Lamp Black. Outline the top of the eye and in the corners with Lamp Black. Highlight the eye, top of the cheeks and lip with tiny dots of Warm White. Fill in the inside of the mouth with Antique Maroon. Now, basecoat the rest of the piece as follows: Zinc eyebrows; hair; beard; mustache Turquoise Blue cape; mittens; 3 sections on ball Jade Green (optional) undercoat hat; robe Tomato Red hat; robe Lamp Black belt; boots Cocoa Fur Foliage Green wreath; wide section of top Oyster Beige list; drum; tie on bag Burlap ribbon on wreath (lines are Lamp Black) Mississippi Mud bag Cinnamon Drop 3 sections on ball; stripes on candy cane; lines on side of drum; knob & dots on top Burnt Umber bell pull Grape Juice package Emperor s Gold bow & dots on package; horn; belt buckle Spicy Mustard bells on bell pull; bottom & area under the knob on the top Uniform Blue trim on drum; lines on the top Light Avocado tree Painting Instructions: Hair/Beard/Mustache With Warm White and a liner brush, dab in the eyebrows. 2

4 With thinned Warm White, stroke over the hair, beard & mustache using the 1/4 Filbert Comb. When dry, shade the hair under the hat; the beard under the mustache; and in some of the grooves of the beard with Graphite. Overstroke the beard once again with Warm White and a liner brush. Cape & Mittens Shade the cape under the beard & hair and above the fur with Payne s Grey. Highlight the open area of the cape with Whispering Turquoise. Shade the mittens against the cuffs; around the thumbs & where they touch the list and wreath with Payne s Grey. Highlight the center of the mittens with Whispering Turquoise. Hat & Robe Shade the hat above the fur; above the ball; and in the creases in the front and back with Antique Maroon. Shade the robe under the fur; above & below the belt; around the list; against the cuffs; against the arms; on the arms; in the creases; top & bottom of the belt loops; and inside the wreath with Antique Maroon. Highlight the open areas on both the hat and the robe first with Red Alert; and then a second time to brighten with Neons Fiery Red. Fur Stipple the fur with Camel. Shade the bottom of the hat fur; top of the ball; bottom of the cape fur; on the cuffs against the mittens; in the center of the front fur; along the bottom of the bottom fur; and in the creases with Asphaltum. Lightly stipple the fur areas with Oyster Beige to brighten a bit. List Shade both sides of the list; in the scrolled areas; and against the mitten with Asphaltum. Highlight the center of the wreath with Warm White. I used a permanent pen to write the names on the list. Boots & Belt Highlight the toes of the boots and between the belt loops on the belt with a drybrush highlight of Whispering Turquoise. 3

5 Wreath Shade the wreath against the ribbon wraps and under the bow with Leaf Green. Highlight the center of the wreath sections with Lemonade. Shade the bow to separate the loops and on the wraps against the suit with Asphaltum. Highlight the loops and wraps with Warm White. Base the berries in the center of the bow with Tomato Red. Shade around the base of the berries & to separate with Antique Maroon. Highlight with small dots of Neons Fiery Red. Apply Glamour Dust Glitter Paint Limelight to the wreath. Ball Shade around the bottom of the ball with Payne s Grey. Highlight the top of the blue sections with Whispering Turquoise; and the top of the red sections with Neons Fiery Red. Add a large dot of Payne s Grey to the top of the ball. Drum Shade the front and sides of the drum with Asphaltum. Highlight the center of the front with Warm White. Top Shade the yellow areas with Asphaltum; the green area with Leaf Green and dot the top with Neons Fiery Red. Candy Cane Shade the top & bottom of the candy cane with Payne s Grey and line with Warm White. Package Shade the package against the ribbon with Payne s Grey Tree Shade the tree under and around the branches with Black Green. Highlight the tips with Lemonade. Bag/Bell Pull Make a wash of Burnt Umber and go over the rope on the bag. Shade the rope against the knots, against the loops of the bow; and where it loops over itself with Burnt Umber. Highlight here and there on the rope with Warm White. Shade the bag under the objects in the bag; 4

6 above, below, and around the rope; against the bell pull; and across the bottom with Burnt Umber. Highlight the open areas of the bag and along the top edge with Oyster Beige. Shade the bell pull around the bells and in the dips with Soft Black. Highlight the top of the bends with Oyster Beige. Shade the bottom of the bells with Asphaltum. Finishing: Apply SnoTex to the area under Santa, the ball and bag (I wrapped it around to the back avoiding the writing on the back). While the SnoTex is still wet, sprinkle on Glamour Dust. When dry, shade under Santa; the ball and bag with Victorian Blue. Finish with several light coats of Americana Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher Matte.
