2 Lucky Leprechaun Pie Materials Needed: Instant Pistachio pudding Milk Ready made crust (baked) Whipped cream Steps Involved: Make the pudding according to the package directions for pie (usually means less milk than pudding). Pour into crust and top with whipped cream. Chill until time to serve. Paddy's Punch 1 quart lime sherbet, softened 1/2-cup limeade concentrate 2 tbl. Sugar 2 (12oz) can lemon-lime soda 1 to 2 cups ice, crushed Blend the sherbet, limeade and sugar. Stir in the soda and ice. Pour into glasses. NOTE: You can also use sugar free sherbet and a sugar substitute for a nice Diabetic drink

3 Leprechaun Legs 8 oz. Cream Cheese (room temperature) 1 Can Crushed Pineapple (drained) -- (8 oz.) Celery Green Food coloring When cream cheese has reached room temperature whip until soft and fluffy. Blend drained pineapple with cream cheese until completely mixed to gather. Add in food coloring to desired shade. Clean and trim celery. Cut celery into desired pieces. Fill celery with cream cheese mixture and place on serving tray, cover and chill until ready to serve. These are so easy. Simple stuffed celery sticks are tasty little appetizers, or a compliment to a relish tray. Lucky Pudding Instant Vanilla pudding mix Green food coloring Prepare pudding. Add a couple of drops of green food coloring. Allow children to stir or shake in small baby food jars. The pudding "magically" turns green. Magic Milk Add a drop of green food coloring into an empty glass. Add milk. The milk magically turns green! You can add 1 T vanilla for added flavor.

9 Sequencing Color the shamrocks. Then cut them out and rearrange them in order from smallest to biggest. Make a Rainbow. For this activity you will need: Red, yellow and blue paints. White paper. Mix the paint with water until it is fairly runny. Apply a thick line of red paint. Then apply yellow next to, and overlapping the first line. Notice how the overlapping section changes color. (The yellow line needs to be wider than the red). Apply blue next. Again make it overlap the yellow. Notice the change in color.

10 Shamrock People Materials: Large cut out of shamrock 4 smaller cut outs of shamrocks. Green construction paper Popsicle stick, painted green. Colored markers Glue Directions: Color the shamrocks green. Cut narrow strips of construction paper. Fold the construction paper into a concertina. Draw a face on the large shamrock. Now assemble your little person: Paste the large shamrock to the top of the Popsicle stick. Attach one concertina to either side of the stick, just below the head Attach the other two, either side, at the lower end of the popsicle stick. These are the arms and legs. Apply a small shamrock to the other end of each concertina. For the hands and feet. Napkin Ring Materials: Toilet paper tube Green construction paper 2 Shamrock cut outs Glue Directions: Cut the tube into half, making two smaller tubes. Cut the construction paper so that it covers the tube with an overlap at each end. Apply glue to the inside of the tube, at either end. Cover the tube with construction paper, tucking the overlapping parts inside (if you cut slits into it, it folds in better). Color your shamrock cut out and apply it to the side of the tube, glue th e center section only, so the edges are free.

16 More Patterns for Making Shamrocks You can make very effective shamrocks using heart shapes cut from green construction paper. Because these are in grayscale, I have altered the color to show the position of the hearts. When made completely from green construction paper they are far more convincing. Stems can be made from narrow curved strips of construction paper. 3 Leaves: 4 leaves:

17 The Leprechaun Box Now all of you must know that on the midnight starting St Patrick s Day, the leprechauns leave their homes and hidey-holes, collect their special treasures and look for a new place to hide their treasure for that one night. (Now I don t know the exact reason behind this but I think it might be because Cousin Paddy is a bit of a snoop and they don t want him to be looking in their drawers.) Now how can you help to trick the leprechauns, and get their special treasure? Why by making a Leprechaun Box of your very own. All you need is one smallish box, with a cover/lid. (Smaller than a shoe box, mind you, Leprechauns are tiny creatures.) Some paint, paper, glitter, glue and any other bits and pieces to decorate your box and make well neigh erresistable to the Leprechaun who finds it. Shamrocks made from heart shapes are great to use. (I ve included how to do those.) And simple yellow circle punches make dandy gold coins. Now what you must do when you go to bed on March 16th, is to leave your Leprechaun box out on something low. (Not the top of the closet, that is too high and the leprechauns won t find it there.) When you get up in the morning, your box will be hidden. Now sometimes if you are a wee little person, like the Leprechauns, there will be a trial of shamrocks, glitter/gold or just leaves leading to where the box is hidden. (Sometimes there won t be one, the Leprechauns don t want to make your mum mad.) If you are getting to be bigger they don t always leave a trail, but they might leave a note or riddle telling you what to do. (I ll include one of them also.) Now I must tell you, these leprechauns do have a playful nature and to be sure their special treasures are often not gold, but something sweet (chocolate coins or bubble gum), or small and fun (we found Erin the Beanie Bear in our box one year and a pack of Pokemon cards another). The Leprechauns love their treasures, but they love to see children playing too, so

18 they don t really mind you finding the boxes. (Now Cousin Paddy on the other hand is a grownup leprechaun and able to get his own special treasures.) I must also tell you that if you do not find where the Leprechauns have hidden your box by midnight on St Patrick s Day they get to take their treasure back home with them.

19 More Math. Each gold coin is worth 100 silver coins. Leprechaun 1 has five gold coins and 29 silver ones. Leprechaun 2 has 332 silver coins. Now answer the questions: Which Leprechaun has less money? How much more does he need to have the same amount as the other Leprechaun? If Leprechaun 2 changed as many silver coins as he could to gold, how many gold coins would he have? How much do they have all together? Give the answer in gold and silver coins, using as many gold coins as possible. How many more silver coins do they need to have 10 gold coins all together?
