2 2 Listen to a passage about the history of hats. You will answer questions 1 through 7 based on this passage. Hats have a long history. They come in different sizes, shapes, and materials. Hats have served many purposes. The earliest civilizations used hats. Hats protected our ancestors heads from the winter s cold and the summer s heat. Many years ago, warriors in South America wore colorful hats that had feathers and other decorations. Hats were popular in North America, too. Abraham Lincoln wore a tall black hat called a stovepipe hat. In 1865, John Stetson made a hat with a wide brim and a high crown that protected cowboys as they worked outdoors. Today, people all over the world wear baseball caps. Caps protect the eyes and face from the sun and rain. Some hats are worn for style.
