3 Your uniform: Why is your GWR uniform so important? We re proud custodians of one of the world s greatest railways. We ve promised to revalue rail in the hearts and minds of the travelling public, but equally made a commitment to our people. We ll do this by delivering truly great experiences for our customers and each other - meeting and exceeding their expectations. We want you all to feel proud of GWR and that you re playing your part in making history. Your GWR uniform is central to this. How you look and feel in it reflects strongly on you and on GWR. That s why we ve designed a GWR uniform that reflects our heritage. And with your input we ve made it modern and practical to wear while you re at work. Wearing your uniform with pride not only helps make a great experience for our customers, it makes one for you. To ensure consistency and high standards, we have four simple principles for wearing your uniform: Keep it GWR - only wear garments we ve supplied as we outline in our Standards. Wear your name badge and security pass - keep your badge visible on the left side of the outer most layer of your clothing. Take pride in your appearance by looking smart and professional. Care for your uniform by keeping it clean and ironed. Use your PEAS app to arrange cleaning of dry clean only items. The following pages have images to help show you to wear your uniform correctly - and incorrectly. Why care how you wear it? A key part of making great experiences for our customers is to exceed their expectations. They want to see smart, professional and friendly staff. When they don t, it affects what they think about GWR. 4

Your name badge is worn on the left side of your top layer of clothing. It should have your first known name and job title. If you speak other languages you can have flags on your badge. Role specific badges If you work on our Pullman service, Night Riviera Sleeper, in our First Class lounges, or as a Revenue Protection Inspector, you ll be issued with an additional magnetic badge to be worn on the right hand side of your uniform. Other badges You can also wear a maximum of two additional badges from this list: First aid badge One Trade Union member s badge GWR supported charity badge Other GWR issued badges They can be put on your jacket lapel or on your lanyard. Lanyards Only GWR-supplied lanyards should be worn with our uniforms. Trade Union, old FGW or Building a Greater West, or personal lanyards are not allowed. Footwear Tights Hot Weather If you are required to wear a tie or neck scarf as part of your uniform, it must be worn at all times. However, we understand wearing a tie or a neck scarf during very hot weather can be uncomfortable, and so in these circumstances we re happy for you to remove it. Managers may challenge you if they feel you are abusing this relaxation. Keep shoes clean and polished and in a good state of repair. If you re in a safety critical role, you ll be provided safety shoes. For any other roles, wear plain black shoes with a rubber or non-slip sole. You re allowed heels - but to a maximum height of 60mm. We recommend women wear plain black or tan tights. However, if you are too hot we re happy for you to decide not to wear tights
20 Your Appearance How you look is really important to represent GWR and reflects our pride in our railway. Our customers expect to see GWR people looking professional, smart and showing pride in their appearance. Our expectations are slightly different for roles that have a food safety and hygiene element. All roles For all roles we expect you to: Keep hair colour away from extremes such as blue, green, pink, orange, yellow or purple Keep beards and moustaches neat and well groomed Where possible, cover up tattoos Non-food related roles We re happy for you to wear additional accessories and jewellery, but keep it simple, understated and please use common sense. Here s the basics of what we allow: One or two thin bracelets (for example faith bands, charity bands or an understated bangle) A maximum of three rings with simple, discreet designs Small and simple matching stud earrings (just one pair - and we don t allow stretch earrings) Small nose and tongue studs are allowed (keep them simple) Simple necklaces are allowed Customer Hosts and Chefs Fingernails - trimmed short with no nail varnish or false nails Rings - one plain wedding band with no stones No bracelets or charity bands as they may harbour bacteria Earrings - plain studs with no stones Hair worn up and away from face 38
