1 UNIFORM AT THE HAMBLE SCHOOL The Hamble School has a strict uniform policy. As a member of The Hamble School, students should have a sense of pride in themselves and their uniform. Parental co-operation is imperative in order to achieve this. The School expects all students to wear their uniform correctly at all times, which includes the journey to and from School. Any student who is incorrectly dressed will be isolated until the matter is resolved. During tutor time, tutors, year leaders and attached LT will check on uniform and challenge students who are incorrectly dressed. School Uniform Boys Please note that all items of uniform listed below are compulsory.* ITEM DESCRIPTION UNACCEPTABLE Black trousers Plain white shirt Plain black tailored, loose fitting trousers in a style suitable for school. A plain discreet dark coloured belt. Plain white with collar and long or short sleeves. The School expects boys to ensure that their top button is done up at all times and that their shirts are tucked in. No striped, flecked, patterned or any other colour. No jeans, cords, shorts or skinny style trousers. Large logo style belts are not permitted. No other style of shirt. No shirts with a pattern of any description. Tie The Hamble School tie in the appropriate house colour. To be pulled up to collar and worn with 8 visible stripes. Navy blue V-necked pullover Plain blue V-neck long sleeved with house colour trim and Hamble logo, from Skoolkit. *(Compulsory Years 7-10 optional for year 11) No other make, colour or style of pullover or cardigan of any kind.

2 Navy blue blazer Navy blue blazer with the Hamble logo on the breast pocket, and sleeves worn down at wrist length. Sleeves must not be worn rolled or pushed up.

3 ITEM DESCRIPTION UNACCEPTABLE Shoes Formal leather style plain black shoes with black soles and no decorative stitching. No boots, trainers, steel toe capped shoes, no logos, stripes, canvas or sports style shoes. Socks Black socks only No other colour. Hair Outer coat Hair must be of a natural colour in a style suitable for School. Outer coats should be of a plain colour suitable for school. We suggest that students who cycle to school ensure they wear visibility bands so they can be seen on dark nights. Cycle helmets must be worn if cycling. No short shaven hair. Shaved lines or patterns of any description are not acceptable. No denim jackets or brightly coloured outdoor coats. Sweatshirts, hooded tops and cardigans must not be worn at any time. No hats are to be worn inside school buildings. Jewellery No jewellery other than a pair of small stud earrings; one stud in one or each ear in the lobe, and wrist watch or medical alert. No piercings are permitted; students will be required to remove them immediately if worn to school. Retainers are not allowed. Plastic wrist bands or wrist bands of any description are not to be worn.

Plain white with collar and long or short sleeves. The School expects girls to ensure that their top button is done up at all times and that their shirt is tucked in. UNACCEPTABLE No striped, flecked, patterned or any other colour. No jeans, cords, shorts or skinny style trousers. Large logo style belts are not permitted. Trousers that are tightly fitted to any part of the leg are unacceptable. Any other make or style of skirt of any kind. Skirts that do not come to the top of the knee. No other style of shirt. No shirts with a pattern of any description. Tie The Hamble School tie in the appropriate house colour. Tights Hair Outer coat Jewellery Plain black, opaque tights of 40 denier or above. Hair must be of a natural colour with no shaven parts. Hair decorations must be small and discreet. Bandannas and decorative scarves are unacceptable. Religious head scarves should be plain and navy blue in colour. No denim jackets or brightly coloured outdoor coats. Sweatshirts, hooded tops and cardigans must not be worn at any time. No hats are to be worn inside school buildings. No piercings are permitted; students will be required to remove them immediately if worn to school. Retainers are not allowed. Plastic wrist bands or wrist bands of any description are not to be worn. Nails Natural nails only No coloured nail varnish or false nails are permitted.

7 Make up No make-up is allowed for girls in years 7-9 Heavy application of lipstick, eyeliner, mascara and foundation is not permitted and will need to be removed. False eyelashes are unacceptable.

Students will have a fresh start each term. If a student comes to school wearing any item that is not considered to be school uniform then the Year Leader will contact parents or carers and, where possible, the student will be sent home to change, or the correct uniform will be brought to school. If contact cannot be made with parents/carers then the student will be kept in isolation for the day to complete their work. Students who are not in full, correct uniform will not be allowed to attend lessons. Jewellery No jewellery is allowed except a watch and a small pair of stud earrings; one stud in one or each ear in the lobe. Medical alerts are acceptable. No piercings are permitted; a plaster over studs or other piercings and retainers are not acceptable. Coloured charity bands, other wristbands or anklets are not allowed to be worn in School. Students who are wearing jewellery (other than that specified) or a retainer will be required to remove it. They will have the item confiscated by staff; it will be returned at the end of the day on the first occasion and will be kept until the end of the half term for any repeat offences. Students will have a fresh start each term. Should students be unable to remove piercings or retainers for any reason then this is considered to be a health and safety concern and a breach of the school rules. Parents or carers will be contacted to arrange for the student to go home until the item is removed. If the parent or carer cannot be contacted then the student will be isolated until the matter is resolved.

9 Repeat offenders may face exclusion for not following the school s behaviour for learning policy.

10 Hairstyles Hair styles should be appropriate for school. Any extremes of fashion including patterns shaved into the hair will not be accepted. Any student who chooses to dye their hair must ensure that the colour selected is considered by the school to be of a natural hair colour. Students who have inappropriate styles or colours will be expected to remedy the situation immediately and, where this is not possible, they will be isolated until their hairstyle is suitable for School. Make up No make-up at all is permitted in years 7-9. Girls in Years 10 and 11 are allowed to wear a discreet amount of make-up. This will only be permitted if it is deemed to be discreet. Heavy application of lipstick, eyeliner, foundation and mascara is unacceptable. Students wearing excessive make up not suitable for school will be expected to remove it. Persistent breaches of this rule will result in contact with home. Nail Varnish Coloured nails of any kind will not be accepted. Students will be sent to the Department Office where nail varnish remover can be found, failing this, students can be sent to Student Wellbeing & Support to remove the nail varnish immediately. Contact will be made with home. On the second occasion students will be sanctioned with a Year Leader detention. Students are not permitted to wear false nails to school. Nails should be of an appropriate length for school. If a student s nails are not considered appropriate for school parents will be contacted to arrange for the student to go home to rectify the matter. If contact cannot be made with parents the student will be kept in internal isolation. Outside of the School Premises The school has high expectations of behaviour both on and off-site and students are expected to uphold and maintain the principles. The school has statutory powers to regulate the behaviour of students when they are off the school premises and not supervised by school staff. The school will apply appropriate sanctions to regulate offsite behaviour if it is felt that the school has been brought into disrepute. The Hamble School will always consider the context of its involvement and will take into account a number of factors before deciding to apply sanctions. This applies to the following: situations where the student(s) in question were wearing school uniform or were otherwise readily identifiable as members of the school. if the behaviour in question would have repercussions for the orderly running of the school and/or might pose a threat to another student or member of staff (e.g. bullying another student or insulting a member of staff - this includes cyber bullying) the time of the behaviour in question i.e. on the way to or from School, outside the school gates or otherwise in proximity of the school. behaviour whilst the student is on work experience, taking part in a further education course as part of a College programme or participating in another event organised by the school.

11 School bag Students are required to have a school bag rucksack style and large enough to carry books, equipment and PE kit. Equipment Students should bring the following equipment to support their learning. As a minimum they require; pens x 2 (black or blue), Pencil and pencil sharpener, ruler, eraser, a green pen, a purple pen, Scientific Calculator (we recommend the Casio fx-83gt PLUS), a compass, a protractor, a highlighter, a school planner, the school will supply a dictionary.
