2 Floristry Module 1 Find out about floristry Identifying the reasons why people buy/receive cut flowers (for example, Valentine s Day, to express thanks), the different places where cut flowers are sold (for example, market stall, internet) and displayed (for example, office foyer, church) the services offered by florists (for example, home delivery, making up wedding bouquets) and the different activities that florists do (for example, source flowers, arrange flowers) 1. Identify three reasons why people buy/receive cut flowers 2. Identify three different places where cut flowers are sold 3. Identify three different places where cut flowers are displayed 4. Identify three different services offered by a florist 5. Identify three different activities that florists do Use, for example, the internet to find out the different occasions when flowers are bought Carry out a survey in your local area to identify the places where cut flowers are sold and displayed Visit a florist and find out the reasons why people buy cut flowers, the services offered and the different activities that the florist does

3 Floristry Module 2 Select and find out about a job role in floristry Selecting and finding out about a job role in floristry (for example, florist, flower buyer), the key tasks, training/qualifications, personal skills, clothing and usual working pattern 1. Select a job role in floristry to find out about 2. Identify three key tasks of this job role 3. Identify appropriate training and/or qualifications for this job role 4. Identify personal skills useful for this job role 5. Identify appropriate clothing for this job role and the reason/s for wearing it 6. Identify the usual working pattern for this job role Visit a florist and interview staff about their job roles Attend a talk given by someone who is familiar with job roles in floristry Use, for example, the internet and careers information to find out about job roles in floristry

4 Floristry Module 3 Carry out practical tasks in floristry Carrying out practical tasks in floristry (for example, replenish stock), following safe working practices and checking with an appropriate person that each task has been completed to the required standard 1. Carry out at least three different practical tasks in floristry 2. For each task, work in a way that minimises the risks to yourself and others 3. For each task, wear appropriate clothing/footwear 4. For each task, use the materials/tools/equipment safely and effectively 5. Confirm that each task has been completed to the required standard Unpack flowers, cut stems and place in water Change water and add flower food Clear up plant material and dispose of it safely

5 Floristry Module 4 Arrange flowers Selecting and arranging flowers/foliage, asking for feedback on the arrangement, adjusting the arrangement in line with the feedback received (for example, reducing the number of stems, adding more foliage) and handling the materials in a way that minimises damage 1. Select flowers/foliage appropriate for the arrangement 2. Arrange the flowers/foliage following the instructions you have been given 3. Ask for feedback on the arrangement 4. Adjust the arrangement line with the feedback received 5. Handle the flowers/foliage in a way that minimises damage 6. Present the final arrangement Make up a basket arrangement Make a festive wreath Arrange flowers in a vase for display Select and arrange flowers for a bouquet

6 Floristry Module 5 Look after customers in floristry Demonstrating appropriate behaviour with customers, presenting the right personal image, making a good first impression, showing willingness and asking for help when needed to provide customer service On two different days: 1. Follow the dress code of the organisation 2. Greet customers politely 3. Respond willingly to routine requests from customers 4. Ask for help from a colleague when needed to provide customer service 5. Thank customers for their business Accept an order for flowers over the telephone Ask customers if they need help in choosing flowers Wrap flowers for a customer
