1 Class two - Buns, Buns, and Buns WIGGING ALRIGHTY ladies! ITS time... here are the rules Lets keep all personal chit chat until the end of class. this helps our non english (first langue) ladies in the loop 2. THANK YOU to Moonyeen Moller for providing us with notes here we go... Today's class is about the importance of placing, making and using Buns (bumps) and braids. Before we begin - this is a build of class from last week. If you are new to class - simply take a moment (after class) and read LAST week's notes. These notes (THANK YOu MOONYEEN) are provided permanently on my LEARN section (scroll down) on my website RECAP: Everyone knows how to make 3 different kinds of curls from last week yes? Now today is about 3 kinds of buns TWISTY bun 2. TIED bun 3. SELF bun 1. A TWISTY bun is created by twisting a section of damp viscose into snakey ropes. NOW... what do I mean? Take a small section of viscose (either on the doll's head or seperate) and clamp one end stable. (i.e. pin on macrame board etc)

2 then simply take your small mister bottle filled with distilled water and a drop of downey green (or fo those that don't have it - a drop of fabric softner to act as a conditioner) now... TWIST and TWIST (gently of course so it doesn't pull off head) until the hair curls up on itself. For a visual - I provide a photo in this class worksheet found on my website... of an UPWARDS twisty bun and a downard twisty bun. BEFORE I go into more details on twisty bun... does everyone visuzlise this concept of creation? Now for the TWISTY BUN upwards... use this for a gibson girl bun or anytime you want to FAKE HEIGHT with a (bun on top of head) design. WHAT I mean by this... If you check out the photos of the upward twist on worksheet... you can see - that the HAIRLINE VARIES by the tightness of the twisting hair (bun) Soooo if you want to make a tight mean bun... with flat hairline you can. BUT if you pull the hair slightly back (twist the hair towards back of the head) a bit looser twisting Jenny_Samson I am leaving the chat, sorry a visiter unexpected (jeny - thank you for coming!) So if you twist the hair towards the back and then gently move the bun foward you will achieve a slightly PUFFY (teased) gibson girl look. Question on making a twisty bun on top of head? Lets move on to the downward twisty bun The photos I showcased of a twisted hair/bun on worksheet is an EXCELLENT way to provide a BASE to add all those little frosting details (i.e. curls and braids) Remember the puzzle piece concept of last week? IF you cover the head with hair twist it into a downward bun you can then use it as a base to decorate.

3 Can everyone visualize the downward bun? here are HINTS on making that downward bun EVEN As I make a twisty bun... it doesn't happen all at once. As in - I just don't twist and a magical symetrical bun appears First you have to do a wigging cross - with a bit extra glue to make sure the hair holds to porcelain head. THEN - honestly - you really need to let it dry thoroughly - or at least an hour! Now - as a side note - I ONLY use Aleene's original Tacky glue... it just works amazing with the hair and personally I KNOW how it sets up, takes to dry and what the boundaries are with it. Soooo back to the twisted downward bun When you start making the snakey bun... lightly start twisting the hair and when you get the first TWIST, put in a pin to stabalize it. As in - pin it to the head. This achieves two things. KEEPS the twist in place so you can then try to balance it on other side of head AND it also keeps it from unraveling. Then just keep going - until you can achieve a balance on both sides (visually) IF you try to make it exactly the same either it looks FAKE (too perfect) or else honestly - there is no way you can so you go crazy! You just take a damp piece of viscose and tie one or more knots in it! You can use a lot of viscose and make a larger stylized bun or a smaller amount of viscose and make tiny decoration buns (i.e. think of decoration) A photo of this type of bun - can be seen in the GRACE tutorial I put on today's workpage Before I go into hints and tips... does everyone visuzlie a TIED BUN? here are some tips with making a tied bun IF you start with smooth hair you end up with a smooth bun <G> IF you want to make a washer woman bun - (and yes sometimes in character situations this is great) tie a bun with a bit more frizzed hair WHAT I mean... is you don't HAVE to start with a smooth viscose base Marianne_A You can also pleat hair - so its wavy and then tie loose buns with THAT! THEN when you glue the wavy hair bun to doll's head you can spread open the fibers a bit with a corsage pin (kinda like picking a curl apart - to form a wavy mass) and use it as Marie Antoinette style or artsy Animae style Another fun way of making tied buns is varying the design of the bumps as in - think of macrame knots! Do a square bun Is this also the way we have to do the Sarah W doll later? Tie a bun... then use the little ends and twisty them into snaky/twisty ropes and use as decoration.

5 OTHERWISE - simply cut off ends of tied bun, and tuck under the bun and glue. Questions on TIED BUN techniques? The 3rd kind of bun we are discussing today is a self bun This is when you use the existing hair on dolls head... to form a bun. As an example... you see the photo of the side roll into a back bun. Using the photo in the worksheet for today... I literally rolled both sides of hair joined in back and cut off excess hair. THEN you could add flowers, hat or add a few chopped off curls to cover the flat (cut off edge). Questions on making a self bun? Last tips and hints To make small decorative braids... simply take matching DMC floss and braid. Then glue on head (with edge tucked under regular viscose hair) You can literally sew a gold thin thread into braids for decoration before attaching to head. Nadine in Fl is there a reason you just don't use the viscose? 2. Once you glue bun on head... make sure to SQUISH it flatter a bit - to make it look like a PART of the hair - not a cloud sitting on top. Nadine - Do me a favor - and try braiding 3 pieces of matching DMC floss... AND 3 tiny pieces of viscose the width of corsage pin Girlfriend - you are more woman then me if you can do it so viscose stays even (same thickness) and doesn't break. So to answer you question - YES you can use the Viscose NO I can't have the patience to do it hahaha! So I just teach the DMC way
