Revision date : 2006/07/04 Page: 1/6 1. Substance/preparation and company identification Company BASF CORPORATION 100 Campus Drive Florham Park, NJ Hour Emergency Response Information CHEMTREC: BASF HOTLINE: HELP Chemical family: paraffins, in water/solvent 2. Hazardous ingredients CAS Number Content (W/W) Hazardous ingredients % 1-methoxypropan-2-ol % Formaldehyde 3. Hazard identification Emergency overview Contains a suspect carcinogen. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Eye wash fountains and safety showers must be easily accessible. Wash thoroughly after handling. Wear a NIOSH-certified (or equivalent) organic vapour/particulate respirator. Potential health effects Acute toxicity: Virtually nontoxic after a single ingestion. Irritation: Not irritating to eyes and skin. 4. First-aid measures General advice: Remove contaminated clothing. If inhaled: If difficulties occur after vapour/aerosol has been inhaled, remove to fresh air and seek medical attention.

Revision date : 2006/07/04 Page: 2/6 If on skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and water. If in eyes: Wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open. If swallowed: Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water. Note to physician Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote. 5. Fire-fighting measures Flash point: > 100 C (DIN 51758) Autoignition: 415 C (DIN 51794) Suitable extinguishing media: water spray, dry extinguishing media, foam Hazards during fire-fighting: harmful vapours Evolution of fumes/fog. The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire. Protective equipment for fire-fighting: Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in confined areas or when exposed to combustion products. Further information: Contaminated extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with official regulations. 6. Accidental release measures Personal precautions: Use personal protective clothing. Environmental precautions: Contain contaminated water/firefighting water. Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater. Cleanup: Spills should be contained, solidified, and placed in suitable containers for disposal. For small amounts: Pick up with absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder). Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations. For large amounts: Pump off product. 7. Handling and storage Handling General advice: Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Avoid inhalation of dusts/mists/vapours. Protection against fire and explosion: No special precautions necessary.

Revision date : 2006/07/04 Page: 3/6 Storage General advice: Keep container tightly closed and in a cool place. Temperature tolerance Protect from temperatures below: 0 C Protect from temperatures above: 40 C 8. Exposure controls and personal protection Components with workplace control parameters Formaldehyde OSHA TWA value 0.75 ppm ; STEL value 2 ppm ; OSHA_ACT 0.5 ppm ; ACGIH CLV 0.3 ppm ; Personal protective equipment Respiratory protection: Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is inadequate. Respiratory protection in case of vapour/aerosol release. Hand protection: Chemical resistant protective gloves Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields. General safety and hygiene measures: Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wearing of closed work clothing is recommended. Wear protective clothing as necessary to minimize contact. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wash soiled clothing immediately. 9. Physical and chemical properties Form: liquid Odour: product specific Odour threshold: No data available. Colour: white ph value: 5-6 ( 100 g/l, 20 C) solidification temperature: -4 C boiling temperature: > 100 C Vapour pressure: approx. 50 mbar ( 20 C) Density: approx. 1.0 g/cm3 ( 20 C) Solubility in water: emulsifiable 10. Stability and reactivity Hazardous reactions: No hazardous reactions when stored and handled according to instructions. Decomposition products: Hazardous decomposition products: No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated. 11. Toxicological information Acute toxicity

Revision date : 2006/07/04 Page: 4/6 Oral: LD50/rat: > 5,000 mg/kg Inhalation: rat: / 8 h(irt) No mortality within the stated exposition time as shown in animal studies. Skin irritation: rabbit: non-irritant (BASF-Test) Eye irritation : rabbit: non-irritant (BASF-Test) Chronic toxicity Carcinogenicity: Information on: Formaldehyde Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect. After lifelong inhalation exposure to concentrations that were severely damaging to the nasal epithelium, nasal tumors were induced in rats; in other species these findings were not found or were considerably less pronounced. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified formaldehyde as a Group 1 (known) human carcinogen based on epidemiological evidence linking formaldehyde exposure to occurrence of nasopharyngeal cancer. Current regulatory information is provided in this MSDS. No adverse health effects are anticipated if recommended personal protective equipment and industrial hygiene practices are used Experiences in humans: May lead to a skin reaction in people already sensitised with formaldehyde. Other information: The product has not been tested. The statements on toxicology have been derived from products of a similar structure and composition. 12. Ecological information Environmental fate and transport Biodegradation: Test method: OECD 302B; ISO 9888; 88/302/EEC,part C Method of analysis: COD reduction Degree of elimination: > 90 % Evaluation: Easily eliminated from water. The product can be virtually eliminated from water by abiotic processes e.g. adsorption onto activated sludge. Chemical oxygen demand (COD): 1,110 mg/g Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD): Incubation period 5 d: 490 mg/g Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD): Incubation period 30 d: 1,160 mg/g

Revision date : 2006/07/04 Page: 5/6 Adsorbable organically-bound halogen (AOX): This product contains no organically-bound halogen. Environmental toxicity Acute and prolonged toxicity to fish: golden orfe/lc50 (96 h): mg/l Toxicity to microorganisms: DEV-L2 : > 1,000 mg/l Inhibition of degradation activity in activated sludge is not to be anticipated during correct introduction of low concentrations. Other ecotoxicological advice: Do not release untreated into natural waters. The product has not been tested. The statements on ecotoxicology have been derived from products of a similar structure and composition. 13. Disposal considerations Waste disposal of substance: Must be dumped or incinerated in accordance with local regulations. Container disposal: Uncontaminated packaging can be re-used. Packs that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of in the same manner as the contents. 14.
