5 Skin Tones The skin's undertone is made up of warm, cool, or neutral tones that shows through the surface colour of skin. Although the surface colour of skin changes depending on sun exposure and other skin conditions like rosacea and acne, the skin s undertone remains consistent. Knowing whether your undertone is warm, cool or neutral is the key to ensuring that your foundation matches your skin and colour products look natural, not contrived. When foundation doesn t properly match skin s undertone, the colour stands out as orange to copper, pink to rose, or ashen. If makeup looks like the right colour in the package but looks odd once applied, you ve likely purchased makeup with the incorrect undertone for your skin. There are several ways to determine your skin tone, but here are some quick methods to keep in mind: If you tan easily and do not burn, your skin's natural melanin (the pigment that gives skin its colour) level is higher, and you most likely have a yellow-to-olive, warm undertone. This is true for most African-American and women of Indian descent. Some African-American women with deep ebony skin tones may actually have a cool (bluish) undertone, so dark copper shades look off but espresso-type shades match perfectly. Those who burn and either tan minimally or not at all have significantly less melanin, which results in a pink, bluishred, or ruddy cooler undertone. In addition, look for tell tale signs: a ruddy skin tone has obvious signs of redness or is one that tends to flush easily. Some neutral skin tones fall into this category, particularly if rosacea is a factor, so experiment with cool to neutral tones to see what works best for you.

11 Preparing for a Quick Fix Make Over Have your work station set up with Hygiene, Brushes, Sanitizer and disposable mascara and lip wands at the ready. Make sure you have washed your hands and applied a light fragrance Start off by protecting your clients clothing by placing a neck tissue around her neck Start to remove the eye make up & mascara using gentle downward & outwards movements with an eye make up remover Remove the foundation with a cleanser suitable to the ladies skin type and finish off applying toner and moisturiser Use a Face Primer if recommended Apply Concealer to the required areas i.e. Eyes and contouring areas Apply Foundation either with a brush, sponge or fingertips depending on the texture Apply powder if required using a large powder brush in downward sweeping motions. This will follow in line with the fine facial hairs Apply Blusher with either a brush for powder or fingertips if it is a cream texture Eyeshadow to be applied again either by brush or a cotton bud and again relevant to the ladies eye shape and skin tone Eyebrow pencil or palette to be applied if required to define the shape of the ladies eye Eyeliner can also be applied with either kohl or liquid liner.
