As I have a sensitive skin, Pierre and I set out to develop an all-natural range of beeswax products, using only the raw materials from our own hives. The main aim is to continue creating an all natural range - free from harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances and parabens - making it both safe and environmentally friendly. As we both love nature and bees, we are also passionate about creating products that has not been tested on animals. Our 100 % Fynbos honey is also proudly badger-friendly! Simply Bee started off with only 5 products in our range and, at the end of 2014, due to public demand, it had expanded to an over 50 product-range. In 2015 we vow to continue to bring you only the highest quality in beeswax products and we are hoping to launch quite a few new products to our range! Honey, beeswax, and propolis are used in our all natural Simply Bee products as pampering agents in a number of our body care products including soap, lip balm, cremes, salves and lotions. We also use these to naturally preserve our products and to keep them fresh for longer. Chemically, beeswax consists of mainly esters of fatty acids and various long-chain alcohols. A German study found beeswax to be superior to other similar barrier creams (usually mineral oilbased creams such as petroleum jelly), when used according to its protocol. Beeswax is produced by worker female bees for building the honeycomb structure that is used for brood rearing and storing of honey & pollen. At Simply Bee we use our beeswax for producing a number of other hand made products which also include items such as candles, cosmetics, and furniture polishes. Our honeybees forage from a veld full of all natural fynbos species (which includes a variety of wild buchu), thus making the medicinal value of our honey incredibly high. Our hives also offer us a pure quality propolis which we carefully remove and with a minimum of processing and no alcohol added, we can effectively develop products such as our Propolis liquid and balm. Propolis is a combination of beeswax, honey, and tree resins mixed with bee-produced enzymes, used to protect the bee hive from bacteria, fungus, and viruses. Propolis has natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of propolis make it an ideal topical ingredient for treating various skin conditions. Our honey, balms and salves serves as a treatment for a variety of ailments, skin care, and the healing of open wounds. We proudly offer an unique and safe viewing opportunity with our glass observation hives, so you can see up close and personal what a beehive looks like on the inside and by prior reservation even meet the beekeeper as he demonstrates how honey is harvested. This year we will expand our educational experience with affordable package deals which will offer and include light lunches or picnics for school-and tour groups.
