1 Hair Prfessinal Assessment Plan 2016 Summary f assessment This dcument prvides details f the end-pint assessment fr the Hair Prfessinal standard. Successful cmpletin f the end-pint assessment will als lead t the achievement f the Diplma fr Hair Prfessinals (Hairdressing / Barbering). The end-pint assessment is carried ut by an Independent Assessment Examiner, appinted by the assessment rganisatin, wh will bserve the learner carrying ut a practical assessment f the mandatry skills set ut in the Hair Prfessinal standard. The Independent Assessment Examiner will als ask questins while the practical assessment is taking place t ensure that the knwledge and behaviurs cntained within the Hair Prfessinal standards are als assessed. The verall grade (pass / distinctin) fr the apprenticeship will be determined by the end-pint assessment. There are three stages as detailed belw: On Prgramme Stage Cntinual develpment f the skills, knwledge and behaviurs required t meet the mandatry and ptinal sectins f the standard and the qualificatin fr either f the chsen rutes : Hairdressing Barbering Observatins and knwledge tests will be used t assess skills, knwledge and behaviurs required fr the qualificatin during the n-prgramme stage Prfessinalism, behaviurs and values, cmmunicatin and safe wrking practices will be embedded int the qualificatin and nprgramme asssessment Gateway Stage The learner must have successfully cmpleted the nprgramme assessment requirements, cmpleting all the units f the qualificatin, befre taking the end-pint assessment which is the final stage f the apprenticeship Emplyer decides the timing f the endpint assessment, in cnsultatin with the Training Prvider (where apprpriate) End pint Assessment Stage End-pint assessment f the mandatry skills, knwledge and behaviurs specified in the standards via: A practical assessment Oral questining The practical assessment and ral questining will assess the learner's prfessinalism, values, behaviurs, cmmunicatin, safe wrking practices and cnsultatin skills. 3 Hair Prfessinal Assessment Plan 2016 Unit 10 Style and finish men s hair the Diplma fr Hair Prfessinals Unit 11 Cut facial hair int shape (Barbering) which is required fr Unit 12 Shaving services cmpletin f the Hair Prfessinal apprenticeship. This will be when the emplyer, in cnsultatin with the training prvider if apprpriate, cnsiders the learner can cnsistently demnstrate the skills, knwledge and behaviurs required f a cmpetent hairdresser r barber, as set ut in the Hair Prfessinal standard. This wuld be based n a cntinuus review by the emplyer and training prvider f the learner s prgress and perfrmance. The learner will typically have been n the apprenticeship prgramme fr 24 mnths befre being entered fr the end-pint assessment. The minimum duratin fr the apprenticeship prgramme is 12 mnths. The learner will demnstrate he/she can cmplete a range f services n a number f mdels t industry standards and within cmmercial timings. The learner s cnsultatin skills, cmmunicatin skills, safe wrking practices, prfessinalism, values and behaviurs will be assessed by practical bservatin and ral questining. 10 Independent Assessment Examiners Hair Prfessinal Assessment Plan 2016 Assessment Organisatins n the Register f Apprentice Assessment Organisatins are respnsible fr ensuring the end-pint assessment is carried ut t meet the criteria detailed in this Assessment Plan. As the Hair Prfessinal apprenticeship includes a qualificatin and this is part f the end-pint assessment, Assessment Organisatins must als be Awarding Organisatins, apprved by Ofqual fr delivery f the Diplma fr Hair Prfessinals (Hairdressing/Barbering). Independent Assessment Examiners (IAE) are required t meet the fllwing criteria. Rle purpse Occupatinally cmpetent Familiar with the qualificatin Credible Accuntability Independence Definitin The Independent Assessment Examiner must hld: Rute 1: Hairdressing Hairdressing Level 3 qualificatin r equivalent experience f wrking at r abve this level Rute 2: Barbering Barbering level 3 qualificatin r equivalent experience f wrking at r abve this level The Independent Assessment Examiner must have sufficient hands n peratinal experience within the hair industry that can be evidenced, is current and relevant t the qualificatin. This must be f sufficient depth t be effective and reliable when verifying judgements abut assessment prcesses and decisins. 5 years current hands n experience f wrking as a hairdresser r barber at a senir level in a cmmercial saln wuld prvide sufficient experience The Independent Assessment Examiner must have an in-depth knwledge f the endpint assessment, the relevant part f the qualificatin and the grading criteria required. They must be cmmitted t uphlding the integrity f the standard. The Independent Assessment Examiner shuld have access t, and be engaging with, cntinuus prfessinal develpment activities in rder t keep up t date with develpments and any issues relevant t the end-pint assessment. The Independent Assessment Examiner shuld prvide sufficient evidence t demnstrate current practical cmpetence and cntinual prfessinal develpment as a Hair Prfessinal. The Independent Assessment Examiner will be accuntable t the registered Assessment Organisatin which has cntracted their services End-pint assessments can nly be cnducted by an Independent Assessment Examiner wh has nt been invlved with training the apprentice and wh is nt cnnected t the training prvider, cllege r emplyer. Any cnflicts f interest must be declared. As far as reasnably practicable the lcatin f end-pint assessment shuld match cnditins f a real wrk envirnment. The saln r ther end-pint assessment lcatin is respnsible fr meeting the requirements f a real wrk envirnment. The real wrk envirnment must meet the fllwing principles: All end-pint assessments must be carried ut under realistic cmmercial cnditins Any ptential cnflicts f interest must be declared The space per wrking area cnfirms t current health and safety legislatin and cmmercial practice The range f services, prfessinal prducts, tls, materials and equipment must be current and available fr use. All bye-laws, legislatin r lcal authrity requirements that have been set dwn in relatin t the type f wrk that is being carried ut must be taken int full accunt The assessment lcatin is respnsible fr prviding large items f equipment eg chairs, backwashes plus twels. The learner is respnsible fr prviding tls and equipment such as scissrs, clippers, hairdryers, brushes and the prducts they will be using. All equipment must be in gd wrking rder. 12 Grading Hair Prfessinal Assessment Plan 2016 The Grading will nly apply t the end-pint assessment. This will be Pass r Distinctin nly. Each element f the end-pint assessment will cntribute t the verall end-pint assessment grade. The final grade fr the end-pint assessment will be based n a hlistic judgement made by the Independent Assessment Examiner acrss the apprentice s perfrmance in bth the practical and ral questining in line with the grade prfiles utlined belw: A pass candidate is capable f managing and running a clumn within expected service times, wrks safely and hygienically at all times and has a prfessinal apprach t wrk. They can cmpetently use a range f techniques, methds, tls and prducts t achieve accurate finished lks. Their prduct and service advice is sund, evidences a gd understanding that includes hw t use prducts and maintain style. Client cmfrt is maintained thrughut all services. They are able t respnd t any questins accurately. A distinctin candidate, in additin t meeting the pass criteria are cnfident, rganised and practive in their apprach t wrk, they cntinually manage and use time effectively and demnstrate a cnstant attentin t detail in all aspects f their wrk. They are capable f cmbining and adapting a full range f techniques, methds, tls and prducts t maximize the effects f all finished lks, cnsistently taking int cnsideratin all factrs thinking bth abut the immediate effects and the lnger term maintenance and management. Their prduct and service advice ges beynd the basic, is backed up with evidence f a full depth f understanding that is used t shape and influence service utcmes apprpriately. Client cmfrt is cnsidered thrughut all services, cntinually ging the extra mile t meet custmers needs s that the service experience is as gd as pssible. They are cnsistently able t respnd t any questins asked with full justificatin fr any decisins made r advice given, further evidencing a full depth f understanding. Implementatin Affrdability Up t 8 learners can be assessed at ne time by the Independent Assessment Examiner, helping t reduce csts. The cst f the end-pint assessment is likely t be 10-11% f the ttal cst f the training and assessment required t cmplete the Hair Prfessinal apprenticeship prgramme. Prfessinal bdy recgnitin Cmpletin f the Hair Prfessinal Apprenticeship makes the learner eligible fr state registratin with the Hair Cuncil. Cnsistency Refer t quality assurance arrangements abve.
