The eye drops pictured all have disappearing preservatives. A disappearing preservative turns into water and oxygen upon contact with the eye, thereby minimizing the irritation that may be caused by traditional preservatives Preparations containing Carbomer 980 are quite thick providing longer lasting effects. Due to its viscosity (thickness) it should be instilled last if other eye drops require administration at the same time. 5 Active ingredient: Polyvinyl Alcohol (viscosity enhancer) Polyvinyl Alcohol is a viscosity enhancer (makes fluids thicker). This allows products to wet the eye for longer allowing for four times a day administration. Refreshes and lubricates your eyes and treats symptoms associated with dry eyes, tired eyes, burning and itching Note: once administered, the drops may cause short term burring of vision. 6 Active ingredient: Wool Fats Some products contain a combination of white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin and wool fat. They are recommended when prolonged contact time is required such as at bedtime. Advise patients that blurred vision is common. Note: Contact lenses should be removed before use
