2 CTEC Introduction Beauty Specialists are qualified to carry out a wide range of Facial treatments as well as Manicure and Pedicure. These treatments are designed to improve skin care and condition, and are all designed to help improve facial conditions and promote a feeling of well-being. It is important that the Beauty Specialist is caring and intelligent and has a wellgroomed appearance. At CTEC, we offer a range of certified programmes on a part-time basis, leading to ITEC (International Therapy Examination Council) and FETAC (Further Education & Training Awards Council) awards. ITEC is an international examination board, operating in over 38 countries worldwide offering a variety of beauty qualifications. FETAC is the Irish awarding body for further education awards on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (levels 1 to 6). Our beauty courses can be taken individually or participants can complete all available courses for a reduced rate. Course Costs All courses can be taken individually as per the listed prices. ITEC Diploma for Beauty Specialist (includes all listed ITEC Courses) 2, inclusive payable by instalment. ITEC Beauty Specialist Diploma and both FETAC certificates 2, inclusive payable by instalment. Dress Code & Equipment Learners on all Beauty Courses are required to purchase a uniform top which is available from the centre, and should also wear black trousers and low-heeled black pump shoes in class. For some courses, it may be necessary to purchase additional equipment e.g. make-up kits and brushes. ITEC Certified Courses Assessment and Certification The assessment for all ITEC certificate courses will consist of a one hour theory examination, a practical assessment carried out by the tutor and also a practical assessment carried out by a visiting ITEC External Examiner. Examinations normally take place annually. 4 FETAC Certified Courses FETAC level 5 Skincare & Eye Treatments (L22534) This module is designed to give learners knowledge of the Beauty Therapy Industry and provide a range of skincare and treatments. Course Cost: (inclusive of certification fees) Unit 1 Skincare & Eye Treatments Identify different types of skin Recognise and list total and local contraindications to treatments, such as infectious diseases ie any form of infection, disease or fever, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, any known allergens A knowledge of bacterial, viral and congenital diseases and their causes, specifically, eczema. Psoriasis, acne vulgaris and rosacea, impetigo, urtacaria, viral warts and herpes simplex Understand, explain and demonstrate the appropriate products to perform a superficial cleanse for the following skin types, dry, dehydrated, oily, combination and mature Understand, explain and demonstrate the use and effects of appropriate toning products on the various skin types. Unit 2 - Anatomy and Physiology List and recognise the bones of the head and face Explain and identify the layers of the skin and its underlying structures Understand and be able to communicate with clients its functions Understand, explain and recognise the different skin types, colours and conditions Understand and explain the functions of the acid mantle Unit 3 Cosmetic Science Display an understanding, explain and give examples of the sources of oils, fats and waxes Display an understanding, explain and give examples of emulsions, emulsifying agents, humectants and emollients Explain and evaluate the difference between cleansing milks, lotions and creams, eye creams, toners and moisturisers Display an understanding of the main mask ingredients, clays, commercial, biological and natural Display an understanding of the different massage mediums, oils, creams and talc Unit 4 Professional Ethics Understand and explain the statutory Acts pertaining to professional treatments such as the data legislation Act Devise specific treatment plans to suit the client s needs yet ensuring client confidentiality is not compromised Ensuring contraindications are recorded and explained fully to the client Ensuring all necessary equipment is to hand before performing treatment on client Assessment Assessment for this module consists of the following: Practical Examination 50% Collection of Work 25% Written Examination 25% CTEC, , P a g e 4

5 FETAC Certified Courses FETAC level 5 Make-Up Application (L22533) The module is designed to give the learner knowledge of Beauty Therapy and the Beauty Industry and enable the candidates to provide treatments for the purpose of enhancing the appearance with the use of make-up. Course Cost: (inclusive of certification fees) Unit 1 Facial make-up application Identify different types of skin Recognise and list total and local contra-indications to treatments, such as infectious diseases i.e. any form of infection, disease or fever, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, any known allergens A knowledge of bacterial, viral and congenital diseases and their causes, specifically, eczema. Unit 3 Cosmetic Science Understand explain and give examples of the sources of oils, fats and waxes Understand, explain and give examples of emulsions, emulsifying agents, humectants and emollients Explain and evaluate the difference between oil-in-water emulsions and water-in-oil emulsions Understand the main ingredients in eye cosmetics including pigments and their sources Understand the main ingredients in lip cosmetics Unit 4 Professional Ethics Understand and explain the statutory Acts pertaining to professional treatments such as the data legislation Act and health and safety Acts Devise specific treatment plans to suit the client s needs and that all treatments preserve client s confidentiality Ensuring contraindications are recorded and explained fully to the client Ensuring all necessary equipment is to hand before performing treatment on client Ensuring treatment procedures are carried out hygienically and in the correct sequence Assessment Assessment for this module consists of the following: Practical Examination 50% Collection of Work 25% Written Examination 25% CTEC, , P a g e 5
