Although clients may have an idea of what service, style, and beauty regimen they need, a salon visit can be just as informative as visiting your physician. In order to create their custom Beauty Rx, you must accurately understand a client s hair history, what services were performed before, the current condition of the scalp and hair, and what the client s expectations are. 13 Hair Analysis ELASTICITY TEST Determine the elasticity of your client s hair by performing the following test on wet or : 1. Using both hands, hold a strand of hair at the scalp and at the ends 2. Gently stretch and release the hair 3. Evaluate the results: Hair that stretches easily and returns to its original length has great elasticity Hair that remains slightly stretched has good to great elasticity Hair that breaks or remains stretched has poor elasticity 12

14 Hair Analysis POROSITY Determine the porosity (hair s ability to absorb and hold moisture) by performing the following test on the client s hair 1. Hold a section of hair between your thumb and forefinger 2. Lightly backcomb the hair strands from ends to scalp 3. Evaluate the results: Hair that feels thick and smooth and does not backcomb easily is non-porous or resistant Hair that feels rough and backcombs easily is porous TEXTURE Examine the hair to determine its overall condition: Formation: Curly, Wavy or Straight Formation 13 Wavy Straight Curly

18 2 TREAT SCALP 1. BRUSHING Brushing exfoliates impurities and product build-up on the surface. It also stimulates microcirculation to boost the transport of oxygen and nutrients into the hair follicle. 7min EACH TREATMENT BEGINS WITH A SIGNATURE 7-MINUTE SCALP MASSAGE. Using a wooden or 100% boar bristle brush, gently brush each section of the scalp twice from the top of the head to the nape of the neck Starting at the top of the head to the nape of the neck, brush gently but firmly from left to right, then right to left, applying gentle pressure (refer to diagram) WOOD PADDLE Brush 2.
