This leaflet answers some common questions about DP Fusidic Acid Cream. It does not contain all the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist. All medicines have risks and benefits. Your doctor has weighed the risks of you using DP Fusidic Acid Cream against the benefits they expect it will have for you. If you have any concerns about using this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Keep this leaflet with the medicine. You may need to read it again. What DP Fusidic Acid Cream is used for The active ingredient of DP Fusidic Acid Cream is fusidic acid. DP Fusidic Acid Cream should be used on the skin for the local treatment of infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to fusidic acid such as impetigo (a weeping, crusty and swollen patch of skin), infected cuts and abrasions, infected contact dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), infected eczema. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why DP Fusidic Acid Cream has been prescribed for you. This medicine is available only with a doctor's prescription.
2 Before you use DP Fusidic Acid Cream When you must not use it Do not use DP Fusidic Acid Cream: If you are allergic to fusidic acid or any of the other ingredients of DP Fusidic Acid Cream. If the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering. After the expiry date printed on the pack. The cream may not work as well after the expiry date has passed. You should also tell any health professional who is prescribing a new medication for you that you are using DP Fusidic Acid Cream. There is no known effect of DP Fusidic Acid Cream with other medicines. How to use DP Fusidic Acid Cream Dosage Your doctor will tell you how much and how often you should be using DP Fusidic Acid Cream. Always use exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. 1
3 Adults and children Usually a small amount of cream is applied to the infected skin area three or four times each day. If your doctor advises you to use a sterile bandage or dressing, you usually can reduce the number of applications. A nappy on a baby may act as a dressing. Treatment duration depends on the type of infection and the result of the treatment and is usually 1 to 2 weeks, although it may be longer for some people. Follow the advice of your doctor. While you are using DP Fusidic Acid Cream Things you must do If symptoms of your infection persist or they become worse after a few days of treatment, tell your doctor. If you develop a skin rash, itching or swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or have difficulty swallowing or breathing after applying the cream, tell your doctor immediately, as you may be having an allergic reaction to fusidic acid cream. If you become pregnant while you are using fusidic acid cream, tell your doctor or pharmacist. If you are about to be started on any new medicine tell your doctor and pharmacist that you are using fusidic acid cream. Things you must not do DP Fusidic Acid Cream is for external use only, do not swallow. Do not give DP Fusidic Acid Cream to anyone else, even if they have the same condition as you. Things to be careful of Fusidic acid cream should not be applied in or near the eye because it can lead to a prickling feeling in the eye. If you accidentally get any cream in your eye, wash it out with cold water immediately, then rinse your eye with eye wash if possible. If you start to have any problems with your sight or if your eye is sore, contact your doctor. If you use the cream for a long time or in large amounts, it may increase the chance of getting side effects. Your skin may get more sensitive to the cream. Driving and using machines This cream does not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. 2
4 In case of overdose It is unlikely that an overdose will develop when fusidic acid cream is used as recommended by your doctor. If fusidic acid cream is swallowed by accident, immediately telephone your doctor or the National Poisons Centre (telephone 0800 POISON or ), or go to accident and emergency at your nearest hospital. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning. Side Effects You may experience a mild irritation for a short time after applying DP Fucidic Acid Cream. The medication is usually well tolerated and not associated with any serious side effects. Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are using DP Fusidic Acid Cream. After using DP Fusidic Acid Cream Storage Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Store DP Fusidic Acid Cream below 25 C and in a dry, cool place. Disposal Discard the tube after 4 weeks of first opening even if there is still some cream left in it. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help protect the environment. 3
5 Product description What it looks like DP Fusidic Acid Cream is a white to off-white cream, and is available in an aluminium tube with HDPE screw cap. DP Fusidic Acid cream comes in tubes of 15 gram. Ingredients DP Fusidic Acid Cream contains: fusidic acid 2 %, liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, butylhydroxyanisole, cetyl alcohol, glycerol, potassium sorbate, polysorbate 60 and purified water.
