3 Page 2 of 34 STUDENT ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS ON CLIENTS: WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? & WHAT DO I NEED? 1. Set up your work station and review assessment criteria (refer to the Assessment Checklists for Students which are located in each salon)). 2. Set up your equipment and products ready for assessment. 3. Mobile telephones are restricted during assessment. 4. Students are required to wear closed-in shoes, clean and neat attire, hair styled appropriately. 5. Students are required to bring appropriate clients to carry out their assessments 6. Students are required to bring the following equipment: Hair-dryer Sectioning clips A range of combs cutting, tail, basin A range of brushes Vent, Denman, various size round, paddle, teasing Gloves [colour application & removal] Scissors, clippers Razor cut throat and feather 7. Students are required to fill out analysis sheets and or head form sheets for the relevant task, these are kept at the reception or ask your trainer/assessor (example copies are available for reference if required). 8. Follow occupational health and safety instructions at all times. 9. Demonstrate sustainability procedures throughout the assessment. WHAT RESOURCES WILL YOU PROVIDE ME? The student will have access to: A range of products and equipment, lighting, basin and chair in a salon environment Relevant learner handouts, guidelines and reference material Manufacturer information Analysis sheets and head form sheets Appropriate equipment and facilities. Access to a qualified trainer/assessor

4 Page 3 of 34 OTHER IMPORTANT INFO You must demonstrate all of the elements of competency (refer to the Assessment Checklists for Students which are located in each salon) for the unit that is being assessed. Inform the assessor that you are ready to be assessed for competency and check that you have signed the confirmation of readiness for assessment' within the assessment checklist. Your time frame will be advised and is recorded by the assessor. You must show the completed analysis and head form sheet to your trainer/assessor prior to commencing any tasks these may be kept towards evidence of assessment. You will be assessed by observation of tasks demonstrated on paying clients. You should also be prepared to answer any verbal questions relating to the units of competency being assessed. Ensure you are wearing correct attire, closed-in shoes, and have presented with required equipment and suitable clients. Arrive on time for your assessment Make sure you know your clients name!!! Your client may be questioned for evidence of your consultation and communication skills ask them lots of questions!
