This relationship will ensure the skills gained by young hairstylists at all levels of training meet the demands of the beauty industry. The competition also challenges students in hairstyling and promotes this career trade. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO BE TESTED: 1. Men s Fashion Hair Cut, Color and Style with 3 wishes Test 1 2. 2 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The level of this competition will allow the young stylists to demonstrate their technical skills and creative ability in the following areas: 1. Haircutting scissors, razor, textures, and clippers. 2. Hairstyling setting & blow-drying 3. Long Hair Design 4. Creative Cosmetology/Ornamentation 5. Hair Coloring and De-Coloration semi-permanent and permanent. 6. Competition Styling EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS Equipment and Materials Competitors Must Supply: Smocks and gloves (must be worn when coloring) Irons (must be 110V-7.5 amp) Preferred types of colors, developers and styling products with all labels fully covered. Working tools, including: water bottle, towels, cape, cutting implements, combs, brushes, clips, gloves etc. Blow dryer (no more than 1800 watts) Shampoo and Conditioner Equipment and Materials Supplied by the Committee: Ingrid mannequin for Test #2, #3 Table Non-hydraulic chair Johann (no beard) mannequin Mirror Single electrical outlet for Test #1, Antonio (no beard) #4 Mannequin Stand All mannequins with a stand will be provided by Pivot Point. Please refer to the Pivot Point website for detailed mannequin descriptions: CLOTHING REQUIREMENT Clean and comfortable work attire as would be worn by staff working in a modern hair salon and any protective clothing (no platform, high heeled or open toe shoes). Socks or hosiery must be worn at all times. Appropriate work clothing must be worn to compete. All clothing must be neat and clean and free of rips and tears. 3 SAFETY The health, safety and welfare of all individuals involved with Skills Canada Alberta are of vital importance. Safety is a condition of participation with Skills Canada Alberta and shall not be sacrificed for the sake of expediency. All competitors are responsible to bring with them all MSDS documents for the products they intend to use. At the discretion of the judges and technical committees, any competitor can be denied the right to participate should they not have the required proper safety equipment and/or act in an unsafe manner that can cause harm to themselves or others. JUDGING CRITERIA All judging will be performed according to the criterion of the Master Judges 30 point System in combination with Objective Judging performed by members of the PTC. The competitors with the highest combined points from the four tests will be the winner, the second highest mark will be placed second, and the third highest mark will be placed third. Demerits will be given for any rule infractions *Any communication between the spectators and competitors during the contest times may be seen as coaching and could cause demerits to be awarded. *No headsets, I-Pods, MP3 Players, or Portable Music device s allowed Tie Breaking Process In the case of a tie, judges will be called back to the competition floor to break the tie. 4 Test 1 MEN S FASHION HAIR CUT, COLOUR and STYLE WITH 3 WISHES TIME - 3 Hours RATIONALE This haircut and colour is to reflect a fashion Men s trend hairstyle The selection of possible wishes will be decided by the PTC members. There are three ballot boxes which represent the client wishes (cut, colour and texture). One criteria will be selected (ballot) from each box. This selection will take place just prior to the start of competition, and competitors may not confer with anyone. This test must respect industry standards. Ballot Box Possibilities may include but are not limited to: CUT COLOUR TEXTURE Fade Tattoo Undercut Silver Orange Black Smooth Wave Controlled frizz HAIRCUT The selected element must be present and visible. All cutting techniques and tools are allowed. COLOUR Fashion colour not avant-garde. All colouring techniques are allowed. All colour products are allowed to be used in this test with the exception of coloured sprays (including glitter), coloured mousse, coloured gels, coloured markers, crayons etc. cannot be used. The selected element must be present and visible. TEXTURE The required element must be present and visible. The finished style must contain at least two textures with one being the required element. The mannequin for this test is Johann (no beard) OBJECTIVE JUDGING CRITERIA 1. Is the required element for hair cutting present and visible? 2. Is the required element for hair color present and visible? 3. Is the required element for texture present and visible? 4. Are there 2 textures present? 5. 5 DEMERITS Please see demerit list at the end of test 4 TIME 1hour 30 minutes Test 2 - BRIDAL LONG HAIR UP RATIONALE This is Competitors free choice of a hair trend fashion bridal who should have a commercial look and not OMC. The mannequin for this test is Ingrid. COLOUR In this test you are not allowed to use any colour. FINISHED RESULT Free choice of tools allowed. No cutting implements or tweezers are allowed. Ornamentation must be used, but cannot cover more than 1/3 of the head. Hair fillers, padding or extensions are not allowed. Hair netting is not allowed. Coloured sprays (including glitter), coloured mousse, coloured gels, coloured markers, crayons etc. cannot be used. The hair is not to be cut. No dressing of the mannequin allowed. No penetrating pins into the head. Only use techniques you would use on a client to secure the hair or ornamentation. (See authentic Practice at the end of test 4) OBJECTIVE JUDGING CRITERIA 1. Is the finished style in a bridal theme? 2. Is the hair and ornamentation secured in an industry acceptable method? 3. Is there ornamentation? 4. Is the ornamentation within the 1/3 limit? 6 TIME - 3 hours Test 3 - LADIES FASHION HAIRCUT and COLOR WITH THREE WISHES RATIONALE This haircut and colour is to reflect a fashion ladies trend hairstyle The selection of possible wishes will be decided by the PTC members. There are three ballot boxes which represent the client wishes (cut, colour and texture). One criteria will be selected (ballot) from each box. This selection will take place prior to the start of competition and competitors may not confer with anyone. This test must respect industry standards. Ballot Box Possibilities may include but are not limited to: CUT COLOUR TEXTURE Symmetrical fringe Asymmetrical fringe Undercut Red Rose gold Black Curl Wave Crimp HAIRCUT The selected element must be present and visible. All cutting techniques and tools are allowed. Hair length must be shorter than shoulders COLOUR Fashion colour not avant-garde. All colouring techniques are allowed. All colour products are allowed to be used in this test with the exception of coloured sprays (including glitter), coloured mousse, coloured gels, coloured markers, crayons etc. cannot be used. The selected element must be present and visible. All hair must have a noticeable change of color TEXTURE The required element must be present and visible. The finished style must contain at least two textures with one being the required element. The mannequin used for this test is Ingrid. OBJECTIVE JUDGING CRITERIA 1. Is the required element for hair cutting present and visible? 2. Is the required element for hair color present and visible? 3. Is the required element for texture present and visible? 4. 7 DEMERITS Please see demerit list at the end of test 4 Test 4 MEN S HAIRCUT with Photo 1hours 30 minutes RATIONALE Competitors will be shown three photos from which he or she can choose any one to reproduce front view. HAIRCUT The front view of photo must be reproduced. The look is fashion inspired not OMC. (Skills World Championships) No Clippers or trimmers are allowed. No thermal irons allowed. Brushes and/or combs and clips are permitted. All styling products are allowed (except coloured sprays, coloured mousse, coloured gels, coloured markers, crayons etc. cannot be used). PHOTO Each PTC member can provide a front view photograph from a fashion magazine. Photograph must show the style accurately and clearly. The photograph must be black and white. Three photos and 1 alternate will be selected just prior to the competition by the PTC. The mannequin for this test is Antonio (no beard) OBJECTIVE JUDGING CRITERIA 1. Is the haircut a good representation of the photo provided? DEMERITS Please see the demerit list on next page. 7 Last Updated April 13, 2018
8 DEMERITS FOR TEST 1,2,3 AND 4 Demerits will be charged during each test area for each infraction. Demerits will also be given for Authentic Practice, Sustainability and Safety Infractions. Demerits may include but are not limited to: Failure to covered labels on any product being used. Mannequins will be displayed facing the mirror. Failure to cleaning out sink immediately after use. No borrowing from other competitors once the competition has started. No touching the hair after the time has been called. Only 1 appliance plugged in at any given time. No headsets or portable music devices allowed. Any communication between audience and competitor during the competition times will be seen as coaching and will cause demerits to be awarded. Authentic Practice: All competitors will treat their mannequin as they would a client. This includes but is not limited to: At the sink. When applying color When securing hair or ornamentation While styling When transporting from one area to another. Sustainability Excess color waste Excess shampoo/conditioner Excessive product waste Safety Failure to sweep up hair immediately after cutting. Professional sanitary practices must be followed. Industry safety protocols must be followed. No platform or high heel shoes. Socks or hosiery must be worn. All MSDS sheets must be available if requested. Feedback Forms Any competitor or coach can request feedback from the PTC.
