1 SurfaTech Corporation 2170 Luke Edwards Rd Dacula Ga (678) Technical Data Sheet SurfaTech Corporation has developed the CosmoSurf CE Series a new patent pending line of naturally derived citrate polyesters. These products are aesthetically appealing to the cosmetic formulator. The CosmoSurf CE series is derived from three raw materials. These include citric acid, which is the product of a fermentation process, natural alcohols of different chain lengths (stearyl C18, octyldodecyl C20 and behenyl C22) derived from coconut and a crosslinking reagent derived from corn. High Definition Polymers are the product of molecular modeling, allowing us to focus in on every detail of the molecule in order to dial in the ascetics desired. We incorporate three different types of alcohols in order to provide different properties to these products. The liquid C20 octyldodecanol is a highly branched molecule that stays liquid and provides cushion. This material helps spread the product on the skin and while it does have some cushion it leaves a very light dry feel on the skin. We also use a solid C18 stearyl alcohol that leaves a soft barrier on the skin and provides structure. This product has a melt point close to body temperature allowing it to liquefy when applied. Then we finally use a C22 behenyl alcohol, which providers a high melt point and gives more structure to the system. This will provide a thicker barrier on the skin and raises the melt point to allow for stick formulations. With these materials available we are able to make some interesting products incorporating ascetics from each.

2 Multi domain products have two types of groups one liquid at ambient temperature, the other solid. This combination results in unique skin feel to leave a barrier. The liquid and solid domains are thixotropic in that when pressure is applied the liquid structure gives way and spreads the solid portion over the surface. Chemical Description: The CosmoSurf CE series are a patent pending group of two citrate polyesters. These products are derived from all natural raw materials. The line consists of a liquid product, Cosmosurf CE-100, and a solid products CosmoSurf CE-150. The presence of solid and liquid domains in the Cosmosurf CE-150 result in increased spreadability smoothness and aesthetics reminiscent of silicone. In addition to the elegant skin feel these materials also provide waterproofing and transfer resistance in many cosmetic applications. These environmentally responsible polymers will provide excellent aesthetics to formulations. 3 The CosmoSurf CE series are recommended for boosting waterproofing and SPF in sun care products as well as for use in hair care, skin care and as replacements in formulations for silicone. In sun care applications the CosmoSurf series improve SPF and water resistance in sun care products. 4 spf testing All three formulas were SPF tested using a single port Solar Light Model 15S Xenon Arc, Solar Simulator lamp, which has a continuous light spectrum in the UVA and UVB range ( nanometers). The only difference was that LRI A80 was performed as a static, non water resistant, test and LRI A220 and LRI A175 was performed as an 80 minutes VWR test. results The average values for the SPF tests as reported by Florida Suncare Testing, Inc. was as follows: LRI A80 < 19(static) Control no additive LRI (VWR) CosmoSurf CE-150 added LRI A (VWR) VP/Eicosene Copolymer added Based on the results of these SPF tests has significant value as a SPF waterproofing agent when compared to a control formula without a waterproofing film former. In a side vessel, combine Phase A ingredients. Impeller mix to uniformity. 2. In main vessel, heat Phase B ingredients to 70 C under agitation. Continue mixing and add Phase A. Bring to 75 C. 3. Combine Phase C in side vessel, heat to 85 C under impeller agitation and mix to uniformity. 4. Add Phase C to AB under homogenization. Maintain batch at 80 C. 5. Pre-combine Phase D. Add to batch under homogenization. Begin cooling. 6. Add Phase E at 70 C under homogenization. Continue cooling. 7. Pour batch into sticks at 65 C. 8. Heat-treat surfaces. Note: The experimental sticks more easily co-solubilized the other ingredients than in control batch.

Into a clean and sanitized stainless steel container equipped with propeller mixer, add water in Phase B. 2. Add SLES-2 and Betaine, heat up to 70 to 75 C, slowly add Cocamide MEA and EGDS, mix slowly while minimizing air incorporation. Mix until uniform, then cool down to room temperature. 3. In another clean and sanitized stainless steel tank equipped with propeller mixer, add water and the rest of ingredients of Phase A one by one while minimizing air incorporation. Mix until uniform. 4. Add Phase B slowly into Phase A. Mix until uniform. 5. Premix Silplex J2-S and CosmoSurf CE-100 until uniform, then add into Phase A+B, mix well. Add the rest of ingredients in Phase C one by one into Phase A+B until homogeneous while minimizing air incorporation. 6. Add ingredients in Phase D one by one. Adjust ph by using citric acid to ph = 5.5 ~ 6.5, and adjust viscosity to 6,000 cps ~ 12, 000 cps by adding q.s. NaCl and Crothix. Add fragrance if necessary.

All samples and distilled water was prepared at 25 C gram of test material was used and 100 ml distill water was added to dissolve the test material in a 250 ml beaker. 8 All products were evaluated on 10-inch Virgin Brown Hair. Two x 2-gram swatches were used for each material tested, all from the same lot. All swatches were wet with 25 C water and one gram of test material was used for each swatch. Swatches were washed and then rinsed for at least one minute per swatch. Wet Comb Evaluation was then performed. No blow-drying of hair was done. All swatches air-dried then the Dry Comb Evaluation was performed once hair was completely dry. Scale used is 1 to 5, 5 being the best. Used for wet and dry combing.
