3 SAFETY ISSUES Before use: Always inspect drape dispenser to ensure proper functioning. Note: Depending on the application, gloves may or may not be worn. Safety note: User s hand and patient should always be a minimum of six inches (15 cm) from cutting blade when it is engaged.

4 6 The 1000NSR 3M Steri-Drape Roll Prep Drape can be used in many ways in many situations. On the following pages, you will find suggested instructions for several typical applications. Whenever you use this product, please keep in mind the safety issues noted at left. If you would like more information about how to use the 1000NSR Roll Prep Drape, just ask your 3M representative. We think you will find that no matter how you use it, you will find it easy to work with. 5

5 Orthopaedic Procedure Knee Surgery: Isolating Tourniquet 2 Apply adhesive on dry skin, below tourniquet cuff (toward knee). 3 When adhesive strip is almost wrapped around leg, pull drape material and dispenser away from patient (minimum of six inches) Orthopaedic Procedure Back Surgery: Isolating Buttocks and Outlining Area to Be Prepped blade. (See safety note.) Quickly pull the towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Apply adhesive strip to dry skin on lower back. Unfold drape width covering buttocks and electrosurgical cautery pad. Orthopaedic Procedure Shoulder Surgery: Isolating Axilla and Head Attach adhesive on free end of drape to dry skin. Cut drape material as per package recommended instructions for use. 3 covering back.

6 Grasp firmly all layers of towel drape next to patient s skin. portion only. Press on blade handle to expose cutting blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade covering patient s side Unfold drape Attach adhesive on free end of drape to dry skin and dispense drape along patient s upper back. Cut drape material as per package recommended instructions for use. Overlap adhesive strips Apply adhesive strip 5 covering tourniquet cuff. 6 Dispense and cut customized length of to patient s opposite side. Overlap adhesive strips. covering patient s side Finish applying cut towel drape to patient s skin, overlapping adhesive strip with beginning adhesive strip. 5 Attach adhesive on free end of drape to dry skin and dispense drape along patient s side. Cut drape material as per package recommended instructions for use. Overlap adhesive strips. covering patient s side. on dry skin under arm from back to front of body. Overlap adhesive strips on back. 6 Release blade handle immediately after drape has been cut material covering patient s upper back Dispense and cut a customized length of across neck from back to chest Overlap adhesive strips on back and chest. covering patient s head. 7 Cardiovascular Surgery Isolating Perineum blade. (See safety note.) Quickly pull the towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Starting at rectal area, apply one end of adhesive strip to dry skin on one side of perineal area. Keep opposite end of drape taut and away from skin Ear Surgery Isolating Hairline and Face blade. (See safety note.) Quickly pull the towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Apply adhesive strip to dry skin behind ear and in front of hairline and patient s hair covering. over hair covering

8 4 Outline pubic area with adhesive on drape by curving drape adhesive with free hand. 5 Apply end of drape adhesive strip to opposite side of perineal area, ending at rectal area. 6 Unfold and tuck drape under buttocks Cardiovascular, Ear Procedures 4 Dispense and cut a customized length of to dry skin above ear and in front of hairline and patient s hair covering. Overlap adhesive strips. over hair covering. 5 Dispense and cut a customized length of to dry skin in front of ear. Overlap adhesive strips. over patient s face. 6 Dispense and cut a customized length of to dry skin below ear. Overlap adhesive strips. 7 over patient s neck

9 General Surgical Procedure Thyroid Surgery: Isolating Face and Outlining Area to Be Prepped edge. (See safety note.) Quickly pull towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Apply adhesive strip to dry skin, starting at upper arm and shoulder. General Surgical Procedure Laparotomy: Isolating Pubic Area, Defining Area to Be Prepped, Preventing Pooling of Solutions Under Patient edge. (See Safety Note.) Quickly pull towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Apply adhesive strip to dry skin, over lower abdomen, isolating pubic area. over pubic area.

10 4 Continue applying adhesive strip along side of neck and up over ear. away from patient over bed. 5 Attach adhesive on free end of drape to dry skin and dispense drape along patient s chest. 6 Pull drape material and dispenser away from patient and user s hand (minimum of six inches). Grasp firmly all layers of the towel drape next to patient s skin. Do not grasp adhesive portion of drape only. Press on blade handle to expose cutting blade. Quickly pull towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. Release blade handle immediately after drape has been cut. Finish applying cut towel drape to patient s skin. covering patient s chest. 7 Dispense and cut a customized length of to dry skin on opposite arm, shoulder, side of neck and ear. Overlap adhesive strips on chest. away from patient, over bed. 8 Dispense and cut a customized length of to dry skin from one side of neck to other side, over patient s chin. Overlap adhesive strips on both sides of neck. over patient s face Attach adhesive on free end of drape to dry skin and dispense drape along patient s side Pull drape material and dispenser away from patient and user s hand (minimum of six inches). Grasp firmly all layers of towel drape. Quickly pull towel drape material toward blade, cutting the material. Release blade immediately. Finish applying drape to skin. 6 Repeat steps 4 and 5 over patient s chest. 7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 over patient s opposite side. General Surgical Procedures

(See safety note.) Quickly pull towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Apply adhesive strip on dry skin between surgical site and IV site (as close to IV site as possible). Equipment Isolation Isolating ECG Electrodes blade. (See safety note.) Quickly pull towel drape material toward blade. Adhesive portion of drape should be first part of drape to be cut by blade. 3 Apply adhesive strip on dry skin between surgical site and ECG electrode (as close to electrode as possible).

12 4 Grasp firmly all layers of towel drape next to patient s skin. Do not grasp adhesive portion only. Press on blade blade.
