1 Contest Description Aesthetics Post-Secondary 1. Purpose of the Contest The principal role of an Aesthetician is to perform services to enhance client physical and psychological well-being through manicures, pedicures, facials, and makeup. The challenge evaluates each competitor's readiness for employment and recognizes outstanding students for their excellence and professionalism in the aesthetics industry. 2. Criteria 3. Number of Stations / Allocations There is a maximum of eight (8) competitors. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis up to a maximum of two (2) per school. If all spots have not been filled before the deadline, then unfilled spots will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis from the waitlist. 4. Skills & Knowledge to be Tested Manicure with Nail Art Objective: perform a manicure; analyze hands and fingernails; record observations on the technical chart; perform cuticle care and hand and arm massage, followed by the application of a base coat and polish, followed by the application of the posted nail art and finished with a top coat. No color bleeding or corrections. Clean and tidy the workstation. Pedicure Objective: analyze and record the specific foot care needs on a technical chart, and perform the pedicure on a facial bed, based on that analysis. Complete the pedicure using red polish. Creative Makeup Objective: apply makeup. The competitor will create a creative makeup look of their choice with a Russian theme. An 8 x 10 vision board according to their creative theme must be prepared before the competition and displayed at the appointed makeup station that they are working at. Vision board must reflect the creative makeup; Vision board may be of a material of the competitors choice; Vision board must be 8 inches by 10 inches; Competitors must bring all supplies to perform the make up including brushes, head band, Q-tips, band lashes and glue and any other materials needed to complete their look; skillsns.ca
2 Contest Description Aesthetics Post-Secondary A technical chart must be filled out prior to beginning to show face shape and the plan to balance I and create harmony of the face; All makeup products to complete the creative look must be provided by the competitor; Models are randomly assigned to competitors and therefore the competitor must be prepared for any skin tone (bring a variety of make up colors); Creative make up to be applied to the whole face; Include contouring and highlighting to suit the models face shape; Band lashes must be applied; Decoration items (gems, glitter, headpiece, scarves, jewellery, etc.) may be used, but only to accent the design and cannot be the primary focus. 5. Duration of the Contest (Schedule) Time Task 7:30 am Competitor briefing 7:45 am Morning judges briefing 8:00 am Manicure set-up + competition 10:15 am Pedicure set-up + competition 12:00 pm Lunch break (provided) 12:25 pm Afternoon judges briefing 12:35 pm Makeup set-up + competition 3:15 pm Competition Ends 3:30 pm Judges scoring Please note that times may vary slightly. 6. Prerequisites SCNS Prerequisites Enrolled in a community college, university or private school OR be registered as an apprentice with the Department of Labour and Advanced Education; Registered as a competitor with Skills Canada Nova Scotia (SCNS); The competitor cannot be a certified journey-person; The competitor must possess a Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status and be a resident of Nova Scotia. Evaluation & Judging Criteria POINT BREAKDOWN Manicure with nail art Pedicure Makeup 800 TOTAL 250 points 250 points 300 points In the event of a tie in scoring, the following procedure will apply: The competitor with the highest score in the most heavily weighted area of the competition will be declared the winner. If there is still a tie, the winner will be declared by a lottery draw. 9. The employee must wear the personal protective equipment prescribed below and must be familiar with the location of the nearest exit, emergency shower/ eyewash station, first aid kit and fire extinguishers. Occasionally during clipping or filing of the nails, nipping cuticles, removing callus from the feet and extracting pustules, a client can be accidently cut. Stop the procedure and put on gloves 2. Apply antiseptic to the wound 3. Cover the wound with a band - aid 4. Disinfect the work station 5. Discard all disposable objects by placing them in a baggie and tying it closed before placing it in the regular garbage. 6. Disinfect all implements with hospital grade disinfectant that kills HIV and HBV or autoclave. 7. Remove your gloves, wash your hands and return to the service. 8. If the client shows signs of swelling seek medical help immediately 7. Workstation 10 minutes / Sanitation: Washes hands, regularly uses hand sanitizer Supplies and equipment: Arranges supplies, implements, and equipment 7 functionally and in accordance with all safety regulations 3. Welcoming and seating of models 5 minutes / Smiles, welcomes model, shows her to her seat, creates a warm atmosphere, 5 and ensures the model s comfort and safety throughout the skill set. 3.2 Properly drapes the model, protects hair and removes jewelry.
