1 2018 MICHIGAN SKILLSUSA CHAMPIONSHIPS TASK & MATERIALS LIST SKILL OR LEADERSHIP AREA: Nail Care CONTEST LOCATION: Courtyard Grand Rapids Downtown 11 Monroe Avenue NW Grand Rapids, MI, US RESUME: Each contestant and model must submit a one-page typed resume before the contest start at the contest site (present to contest coordinator, not judges). The resume is no longer submitted online. This is the only time that resumes can be turned in. Failure to do so will result in a 10 point penalty. STUDENT MUST SUPPLY: a.) White terry towels. No holes or stains allowed b.) Water Bottle Dispenser c.) Supplies needed to perform a BASIC Pedicure (No scrub or mask, no basin) d.) All Items necessary to complete 5 sculptured acrylic nails. Note: Dappen dishes must have covers; Monomer, Polymer, and Primer must be from the same manufacturer; two of the basic acrylic colors (pink, white, clear, or natural) must be used to complete two-tone/french manicure sculptured nails. e.) All items used to complete 5 tip and light cured gel nail. Note: Any type of nail tip may be used. All supplies must be from the same manufacturers, excluding tips. f.) Dark Red crème lacquer/polish g.)all items necessary to complete flat-paint nail art application. Note: Supplies are limited to polish, lacquers, paints and top coat. (see items not allowed.) h.) Written description of nail art theme. Must be typed! Note: Due at registration Saturday i.) Portable kit organizer (to transport all items necessary for the contest. j.) 1 page resume for contestant and model k.) Must provide (2) safety glasses (one for contestant and one for model) m.) Own sanitizer jar and disinfectant n.) Anti-microbial cleanser (for pre-cleansing hands of contestant and model.) o.) Hand sanitizer (for use of contestant and model) p.) Implements should be brought to the contest ready to use (cleaned and disinfected or new) *Must be labeled! q.) Disinfectant/Sanitation surface spray r.) Disposable table towels s.) Plastic bags (gallon size) for refuse

2 t.) Sack lunch for contestant and model cooler with your school name clearly labeled. Students are NOT allowed to leave contest site. OPTIONAL ITEMS ALLOWED: a.)manicure table lamp & electrical extension cord (highly recommended) b.)cushion for chair c.)oil & lotion ( can only be used after judging has been completed) ITEMS NOT ALLOWED: a.)nail Art accessories: gems, skins, feathers, rhinestones, glitters, threads, fabrics, foils, beads, tapes, jewelry, air brushing, decals/stencils or cast moldings. b.) Tip blenders c.) Base Coats. Note: Top coat is allowed for nail art application ONLY d.)electric Files/Drills ANY OTHER ITEMS BROUGHT BY THE CONTESTANT MUST BE DECLARED AT THE CONTEST BRIEFING SESSION. TECHNICAL COMMITTEE WILL SUPPLY: e.) Technical guidelines for the specific application required to be preformed. h.) One electrical outlet per contestant i.) Non-Electric Foot Basin Task: 1. Basic Pedicure With Polish Application Contestants will have 30 minutes to perform a basic pedicure on one foot of their model with polish application. Based on industry standards: Safe & Sanitary procedures throughout contest Proper massage techniques 2. Acrylic Nail Application 1 hour allotted All five fingers of the model s right hand are to be sculpted with forms, no tips, using the two-tone/french-manicure technique. Based on salon quality nails, the following will be evaluated: Acrylic Application: product control, clarity/no bubbles, smile line, c-curve, arch, thinness and continuity. Finished Appearance: smoothness, shape & length consistent finger to finger and proportionate to hand, high-gloss shine and cuticle involvement 3. Tip with Light Cured Gel 45 minutes allotted All five fingers of the model s left hand are to have nail tips applied and blended and overlaid with a light cured gel. Based on salon quality nails, the following

3 will be evaluated: Tip Application: fit, alignment, and blending. Application: product control, even coverage of fabric, and thinness. Finished Appearance: clarity, smoothness, shape & length consistent finger to finger and proportionate to hand, high-gloss shine and cuticle involvement. 4. Nail Art & Polish Application 1.5 hours Allotted for Lacquer & Nail Art Application Two coats of Dark Red Crème Lacquer/Polish is to be applied to the model s right hand. The following will be evaluated: Neatness, coverage, evenness and cuticle involvement. Nail art is to be applied to all 5 fingers of the model s left hand. A specific theme is to be carried through on all 5 fingers and in a written description. Contestant must have written and submitted a description of the theme they intend to create at contest check in. Themes should be typewritten, may be decorated and must be contained in the plastic sleeve. Diagrams of the art you intend to create can be used, however, are limited to the finished product and may not be step by step instructions. Once all judging is complete, props may be used to enhance art during the parade of models. All nail art must be created using polishes, lacquers and/or paint Only! The following will be evaluated: Creativity; theme, follow through of theme, artist expression, and color coordination. Level of Difficulty; complexity of design. Precision; neatness and clarity of lines. Contestants will be evaluated on safety and cleanliness of their work station. *Top coat may be used for nail art 5. Oral Professional Development Assessment 30 minutes Contestants will give a 3-4 minute presentation on the benefits of Natural Nail Care. You can direct your presentation to the judges as if they were a client who came to you for a consultation. Props may be used. The presentation should cover the following points: Recommended natural nail care services. Results the client should expect. The home care products the client would need to purchase and use to obtain these results. 6. Written Examination 30 minutes Test will consist of multiple-choice questions covering aspects of nail care not physically evaluated during the contest. Those subjects include but not limited to sanitation and disinfection, pedicures and light-cured gels. ** COMMUNICATING BETWEEN THE CONTESTANT AND THE MODEL COULD LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION. **CELL PHONES IN THE COMPETITION AREA COULD LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION.
