The reasons people wait vary, but many believe that it s hereditary hair loss and they can t do anything about it. Others ignore their hair loss, thinking it s temporary and hoping it will go away. However, the earlier hair loss is addressed, the better the chances are of fully restoring it. HAIR TODAY GONE TOMORROW In this guide, you will find tips and tricks to help you get started on your healthy hair journey, plus comprehensive information on what I believe to be the three main contributors for hair thinning and hair loss that are preventing you from having the healthy, youthful and abundant hair that you crave. 6 HAIR GROWTH CYCLE To fully understand why hair loss, hair thinning and shedding occur, we must examine our hair growth cycle. Hair grows in a cyclical pattern and every hair is at a different growth phase of the cycle. There are three phases in the growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. Anagen Phase The growing time of each hair follicle lasts from two to seven years. The longer this phase lasts, the longer our hair will grow. As we age, this phase gets shorter so hair may become thinner after each cycle. Hair Skin Surface Sebaceous Glands Catagen Phase This transitional stage is when our hair follicle has shrunk and detaches from its blood supply. This lasts about 10 days. Follicle Sebum Hair receives nutrients via blood supply Telogen Phase The final phase for a hair follicle that lasts about three months. Because our hair follicle is no longer receiving nutrients via a blood supply, our hair in the Telogen phase will start to appear dull and lifeless. During this phase, growth stops and our old hair will detach from the hair follicle. A new hair will start to form and essentially pushes the old hair out of its way. This is natural shedding. On average, we lose about 100 hairs per day through the Telogen Phase. Healthy hair is maintained when our scalp receives vital nutrients via our blood supply so the cycle can continue to produce healthy follicles. If the follicles are not obtaining these nutrients and the blood supply is diminished or shut off completely, that follicle will die and cannot be revived. PAGE 3

7 GRASS ROOTS Understanding hair and how it thrives are key to growing our hair confidence. The super thick hair we have as a child will naturally seem thinner as we grow due to the number of follicles we have remaining the same. If we are shedding considerably more than 50 to 150 hairs per day and our hair is starting to seem thin, lifeless, dry and brittle - this is our body s warning sign flashing like a virus does on our computer, saying look at what is going on inside. When we look at why our hair is thinning, we need to look at the overall wellness of our body. The reason for the majority of our hair thinning and hair loss is super simple. It comes down to this our hair is not receiving the necessary nutrients it needs via our blood supply in order for it to thrive. Our hair shaft is the structure that is impacted by a nutrient deficient blood supply. Just like when grass dries up and breaks when it doesn t receive water, a mineral deficient hair shaft will dry up and break. Our shaft also becomes thin in appearance and more susceptible to breakage when DHT or Inflammation block the blood supply. We believe hair loss is an indicator of an underlying cause(s) that is preventing healthy blood flow to our scalp and follicle. We must remove all the barriers that stand in the way of our hair follicle's blood supply. DHT ONE of the barriers to our hair follicle's blood supply is DHT. DHT Build-up starts to suffocate the follicle and significantly restricts blood flow to our hair follicles to the point where 1calcification occurs. That s because below the skin s surface is the hair root, which is enclosed by the hair follicle. Each hair follicle receives nutrients via a blood supply. If you ve received a blow or damage to the skin, the blood supply may be disrupted and the hair follicles affected can begin to die. It can start to show in our hair, nails and skin months after the event. This can make it hard to determine the cause of hair loss. Because our skin plays a vital supporting role for hair health, it makes sense that we feed our hair through our skin. Our skin will absorb topical solutions (gels, serums, lotions, etc.) and therefore, our skin makes an excellent delivery system. Topicals are absorbed through our skin much quicker than a swallowed supplement takes to move through our stomach because they go right to work where they are applied. PAGE 6

10 LOVE IS IN THE HAIR STYLING If your hair is thinning, you have probably tried different styles to make it less noticeable. There are some go-to styles for both men and women - and these DO NOT include a comb-over! FOR WOMEN An A-line, straight or slightly rounded hair perimeter makes your hair look fuller than a V shape. A graduated bob with no or very little texture on the ends makes the hair look more plump. To make sure your haircut has movement without taking away the weight and volume, ask your stylist to cut your hair dry and at natural fall. Instead of cutting layers the traditional way, have your stylist create movement on the last 1 of your hair by taking horizontal sections up the back section of your head. Starting from the nape to your occipital, have them point cut up to 1 of the ends. Work the front finer sections into the new shape without too much texturizing. Too much texturing will do the opposite and make the hair shattered and flat. Tease the crown for more volume with a small back combing brush instead of a comb, run the bristles over the top layer to smooth out the bumps. Lighter hair always looks more full (just think about wearing black to look our slimmest as we feel that white makes us look heavier ) The same philosophy applies to our hair, lighter is fuller looking. Extension panels can be added to most heads of hair. Unfortunately they have received a bad rap recently. I have found in my salon that when they are done properly and well maintained by my clients, their own hair is never compromised. FOR MEN A short textured haircut creates the appearance of density and volume and therefore the appearance of more hair. If you like longer strands on top to hide thinning, choose a textured haircut, use a volumizing product and dry hair upwards to create fullness. Or choose a short buzz cut all over. It is simple and flattering for most men. PAGE 7

11 9 Secrets to GROW YOUR HAIR CONFIDENCE Be more aware of the choices we make when we buy hair, cosmetic and beauty products. What we put on and in our body, can either cause or reduce inflammation. Test our water Knowing what is in our water helps us take the necessary steps to remove chlorine and neutralize mineral levels effectively, which will start the process to save our hair. Use products with Vitamin C Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant and is a great way to slow down aging and stress on our hair caused by washing our hair in water filled with minerals and chlorine. Vitamin C prevents the minerals and chlorine from attaching and building up on our hair, leaving our hair shiny and more manageable and our scalp free of build up. Install a Shower Head Water Filter with Vitamin C Hard and heavily chlorinated water can wreak havoc on our hair and hair color, causing our hair to dry out and lose its shine. Most shower filters only remove 35-85% of the chlorine and cannot neutralize minerals like Vitamin C can. This is where our money can literally be going down the drain if we don t have insider knowledge. Remove Mineral Build-Up & Replace with Healthy Protein Imagine that our hair strand looks like a sponge.
