It can help formulations spread easily and rapidly and feel dry and light upon application. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane, as a multifunctional raw material, can help build personal care products that provide highly valued sensory benefits. Key Features and Typical Benefits Silsoft ETS trisiloxane has a high volatility profile that can help provide a quick rub in with a dry, light after feel. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane can usefully be formulated into pumpable compositions to help provide uniform coverage, reduce run-down of formulations and enhance sensory properties of the formulation on the skin. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane lowers the surface tension of common personal care emollients and oils, which can aid the ease of formulation spreading. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane improves pigment dispersion within the oil phase to help provide better overall coverage in color cosmetics and better uniform coverage of inorganic sunscreens. Over the assessed time period, Silsoft ETS trisiloxane consistently had less measurable residue in comparison to D4 and D5. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane clearly demonstrates a volatility profile that is improved over the industry standards of D4 and D5. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane, by quickly evaporating without a cooling sensation, can help build formulations with an exquisite after feel that is dry and light. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane is a clear colorless liquid that is easy to incorporate into personal care formulations at low processing temperatures. Formulation A and Formulation B were sprayed through a wide variety of pump diffusers to eliminate packaging influence. All formulations containing Silsoft ETS trisiloxane left minimal residue upon spraying which limits the liquid available to contribute to formulation run-down. The ability of Silsoft ETS trisiloxane to reduce formulation run-down can also contribute to an improved coverage and active deposition upon the skin. The quick evaporation of Silsoft ETS trisiloxane can lead to actives staying where deposited when initially sprayed onto the skin instead of traveling with the formulation as it runs down the skin. One drop, approximately 0.5 ml, of each material was placed onto the underside of one individuals arm. The diameter of the circle formed by the material was measured to give an indication of relative surface tension. The larger diameter for Silsoft ETS trisiloxane indicates not only a lower surface tension, but that formulations containing this raw material would spread more easily upon skin, rub-in would require less effort and offer a smooth application. The time required for the raw materials to completely dry was also measured. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane took less than half the time required for Cyclopentasiloxane. Reduced drying time implies that when Silsoft ETS trisiloxane is used in a personal care formulation, it can increase the capacity of that formulation to reduce the overall sensation of tackiness and wetness. In the above graph, Cyclopenta siloxane rates zero on all sensory attributes, the other raw materials were rated according to their perceived value against Cyclopentasiloxane. Values to the left of the Cyclopentasiloxane zero line correlates to the product having less of this attribute and values to the right of the zero line correlates to the product having more of this attribute than Cyclopentasiloxane. This sensory evaluation clearly displays that Silsoft ETS trisiloxane had a highly differentiated attribute profile when compared against the esters, Dimethicone and Cyclopentasiloxane. Silsoft ETS trisiloxane had a faster rub in speed, while still providing a highly valued dry after feel without a greasy feel. The reduced shine attribute, along with the dry after feel, makes Silsoft ETS trisiloxane an excellent candidate to consider for foundation formulations; quick to dry, improved coverage and reduced shine. With Silsoft ETS trisiloxane reducing the surface tension of these oils, formulations can be developed that will rub in more quickly, easily and also help with reducing formulation tackiness. Without an even dispersion, pigments can settle within a formulation, leading to the possibility of inconsistent color coverage or poor active delivery concentrations when applied to the skin. Since Silsoft ETS trisiloxane has demonstrated the ability to improve pigment dispersion, it could improve color coverage and aid in the even deposition of actives on the skin, especially in conjunction with its ability to improve the ease of spreading. Finally, it can be blended at very low temperatures during the manufacturing process. Formulation Guidelines Silsoft ETS trisiloxane is an approximately 100% active material that can be used at a variety of concentration levels dependent upon the finished formulation and the desired sensory experience. Due to its high volatility Silsoft ETS trisiloxane is best dispersed into the oil phase with mixing at the lowest acceptable manufacturing temperature. Page 6 of 12

Combine all ingredients in Phase C without the hydroxyethyl cellulose. Add the cellulose under high shear mixing and then heat Phase C to 70 C 4. Add Phase C to Phase A+B and mix until homogenous 5.
