The only 2-in-1 UV-free self tanner The self-tanning effect of Vegetan Life is due to the coloring of the horny layer of the epidermis. As opposed to the melanogenesis phenomenon generated by UV stimulation of the skin, the coloring mechanism of Vegetan Life is based on the Maillard reaction. DHA reacts with the amines, peptides and amino-acids of the horny layer to generate brown polymers called melanoidins at the surface of the epidermis. 5 Biological activity High performance self tanning efficacy (in vivo) 19 volunteers applied a solution on their forearms containing either Vegetan Life or our reference liquid DHA (Vegetan FL); both lotions having the same final 6.5% DHA concentration. Measurement of the induced pigmentation was realised at 3h, 6h, 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h after application by evaluating the evolution of the a* and b* values with a spectrocolorimeter and expressing them as delta color evolution (Dc).
