3 Dear Parent/Guardian: Welcome to the Art School of Peterborough s summer art camps! We are excited to begin this weeklong adventure of creative fun with your camper(s)! We have created this wonderful package containing all our camp information you shall need. There is also a sheet for your camper(s) to fill out to let us know a little bit more about them, to help make the most of their art camp experience. To ensure the safety of your child. There is a sign in and out procedure that we need everyone to follow. Drop off and pick up will be done from the 174A Charlotte St entrance, where you will be required to sign a binder for morning drop offs and evening pick ups. Please refrain from using the tunnel entrance as this door will be locked to ensure this procedure is followed. On Friday s, from 4:00 4:30 pm the students will be having an exhibition of their artwork that they have completed. We will be serving cake and refreshments and we hope that you (and your guests) can drop in. Please note that the cake is said to be peanut free, there are no absolute gurantees. In the past we have had students bring their own favourite treat to have during the celebrations if they suffer from allergies. Please bring a box on Friday to carry your child s work of art home! We would appreciate if you could help your child to fill out our evaluation form and return it to the art school on Friday. Your feedback enables the art school to maintain a high level of instruction for its youth courses and aids in the development of future programming. Your name will be entered into a draw for 1 free spot in our P.A Day camp! Due to the time constraints of a one week program, the pottery produced by the campers has to be a one step firing process. The result of this is that the pieces are not completely food safe. That is to say dry food; chips, popcorn, cookies, crackers, etc. are completely fine in the bowls, but liquids, hot or cold are not appropriate. The length of art camp is a longer day than school so we ask that the children s lunches have enough food for two 30 minute snack breaks and a 30 minute lunch break. We also want to remind you that we are a nut free environment so please check labels carefully. In addition to our website, The Art School of Peterborough has its own Facebook page and we upload all our photos from the Kids Camp weekly. 5 Some Important Notes... Nut Free Zone Please note that The Art School of Peterborough is a NUT FREE ZONE! We do have people who come through our doors with nut allergies. Please double check your child s lunch and snacks to ensure there are no signs of nuts. Sunscreen & Summer Clothes The school may have air conditioning, but we do venture outside and ask students to bring their own sunscreen a sun hat and sunglasses if they prefer. Water Bottles Please bring a refillable water bottle with you to camp. We have a water cooler at the school and it is important to stay hydrated. Lunch & Breaktime Students are asked to bring their own lunch and enough snacks for both break times if needed. Please keep in mind the school is nut free and we do have the rule of no sharing food. Please be prepared to get messy! Allergies & Medications Please let the front desk know if your child has any allergies or requires to take any form of medication during camp hours. We require all medication to be kept in a safe place with our receptionist. As students become engaged with their work, it is very likely every child will have some form of art mediums on their clothes by the end of the day. Please send your child in proper art clothes and not ones you will be upset to see dirty. Not all supplies will come out of clothes. Our Instructors are Certified in First Aid Your child s safety is imporant to us, which is why our instructors are certified in first aid and have many assistant volunteers to ensure a safe environment.

6 Meet Our Camp Instructors! Jenni Johnston Executive Director/Youth Art Instructor Website: jennijohnston.com Jenni Johnston is a Canadian oil painter who studied visual arts from Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. She took part in the Florence, Italy offcampus program in her final year, graduated with Honors in Drawing and Painting. Jenni currently lives and is an avid member of the arts community in Peterborough, Ontario. She has had gallery representation in the Toronto region and is part of The Art Gallery of Peterborough s permanent collection. Jenni is also the Executive Director of a notforprofit organization, The Art School of Peterborough. There she teaches a variety of mediums to adults and youth. When Jenni is not spreading the creative spirit she spends time with her family. Jillian Marshall Artist/Youth Art Instructor Jillian Marshall s passion for pottery began in Halifax, Nova Scotia while working for a local pottery studio in There she learned a variety of styles and techniques from the diverse East Coast pottery community that helped to develop her interest in utilitarian and altered forms. She now lives and practices her work in Peterborough, and is excited to share her passion with a young generation of potters. Liz Charchuk Artist/Youth Art Instructor Elizabeth (Lizz) Charchuk is a young selftaught artist driven by surreal and psychedelic passions, drawing from anthropological influences. Working in many mediums, from clay to canvas, however her work is most often made with acrylic paints or mixed media. Lizz s work is heavily influenced by the chaos that encompasses all life. A common motif in her work is the representation of death and time in form of the human skull. Beyond that, Lizz prides herself in her ability to imagine and expand a story behind every canvas and to infuse her work with a tiny piece of her being. She is teeming with passion to share with any and all willing to participate.

7 Daniel Crawford Artist/Youth Art Instructor/Stop Motion Daniel Crawford is a practicing interdisciplinary artist who works across mediums to explore creative forms of visual storytelling. Daniel s interests initially led to an Honours BA in Literature from Trent University, where studying graphic literature he became interested in the power of combining narrative with fine art. Daniel continued his development as an artist by earning a BFA at NSCAD University studying, drawing, photography sculpture and animation. During his time as a student in Halifax he taught a variety of youth and adult art classes through the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts, Nscad University s Extended Studies program and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Amber Lemmon Artist/Youth Art Instructor Amber is a graduate from Trent University and is currently in her first year of Teacher s College. Amber volunteered in our Summer Art Camps 2017 and has continued to show her creative side instructing many of our Birthday Parties and PA Day Camps. We look forward to working with her again this summer. Kristin Drummond Artist/Youth Pottery Instructor Kristin Drummond is a an artist whose main medium has always been pottery. She is also an expressive painter, using bright and vibrant colours to bring her pieces to life. Kristin has been an instructor with The Art School of Peterborough for the past few years and first started instructing our summer camps. Hayley Welsh Youth Art Instructor Hayley is a graduate from Trent University with a degree in Anthropology. She will be attending Teacher s College at Trent September Hayley volunteered in our Summer Art Camps 2017 and we look forward to her working with our Art Students, helping them find their creative spirit and grow as artists.
