Recommended by: Department: Tattooing breaches the skin and can, therefore, cause a variety of complications. This book covers the full spectrum of issues clinical practitioners may encounter when treating affected patients. Introductory chapters include educational information on methods for tattooing, types of tattoos, tattoo inks, and tattoo ink toxicology. The focus is on the diagnosis and classification of tattoo complications. In this regard, a comprehensive atlas of acute and chronic complications serves as a valuable tool. Further chapters summarize available therapies, their rationale, and indication. This includes various medical and surgical treatments with a review of dermatome shaving. Lastly, tattoo removal by gold standard YAG lasers and the more recent pico-second lasers is discussed with the optimal therapeutic outcome in mind. Dermatologists, plastic surgeons, general practitioners, laser surgeons, and other specialists treating tattoo complications will find this book to be an indispensable resource. It also includes information relevant for a broad range of stakeholders in the tattoo business, including authorities and regulators. Contents Preface: Serup, J.; Bäumler, W. Sections/Types of Papers Original Article Review Article Novel Insights from Clinical Practice Novel Treatments Clinical Investigations What Is Your Diagnosis? Guidelines Letter to the Editor Editorial Comment Adnexal Surgery Pathology Industry Corner Research papers should be submitted as Original Articles. Novel Insights from Clinical Practice: The publication space available for case reports is very limited. The journal only considers case reports with significant new insights or with an extremely unusual and memorable course. Highlighted boxes containing one or two bullet points on Established Facts (what is already known) and Novel Insights (what new information has been gained) are required and should be placed on the first page of the report. These should be selected so as to reinforce the novelty of the clinical observation. The text per box should be limited to 1 2 very short sentences. The manuscript should be presented with an abstract (unstructured, max. 200 words), followed by introduction, case report and discussion. What Is Your Diagnosis?: Select catchy title not disclosing the diagnosis. Page 1: Case Report and 1 2 illustrations and the question What Is Your Diagnosis? Page 2: The diagnosis followed by a short description of what diagnostic procedures were done to reach the diagnosis and the discussion with references. Include 3 5 keywords. Plagiarism Policy Whether intentional or not, plagiarism is a serious violation. We define plagiarism as a case in which a paper reproduces another work with at least 25% similarity and without citation. If evidence of plagiarism is found before/after acceptance or after publication of the paper, the author will be offered a chance for rebuttal. If the arguments are not found to be satisfactory, the manuscript will be retracted and the author sanctioned from publishing papers for a period to be determined by the responsible Editor(s). Arrangement Title page: The first page of each paper should indicate the title, the authors names, the institute where the work was conducted, and a short title for use as running head. Full address: The exact postal address of the corresponding author complete with postal code must be given at the bottom of the title page. Please also supply phone and fax numbers, as well as address. Key words: Please supply 3 10 key words in English that reflect the content of the paper. Abstract: Each paper needs an abstract in English of not more than 200 words. The abstract is of utmost importance. It should contain the following information: purpose of the study, procedures, results, conclusions and message of the paper. Footnotes: Avoid footnotes. Tables and illustrations: Tables and illustrations (both numbered in Arabic numerals) should be sent in separate files. Tables require a heading and figures a legend, also in a separate file. Due to technical reasons, figures with a screen background should not be submitted. When possible, group several illustrations in one block for reproduction (max. size 180 x 223 mm). Black and white half-tone and color illustrations must have a final resolution of 300 dpi after scaling, line drawings one of 800 1,200 dpi. Color Illustrations Online edition: Color illustrations are reproduced free of charge. In the print version, the illustrations are reproduced in black and white. (Basel); Jemec, G.B.E. (Roskilde) Listed in MEDLINE/Pubmed, Thomson Reuters indices Dear Librarian I have reviewed this publication and would like to recommend it for our library. Recommended by: Department: Research into perspiration developed dramatically during the last 15 years, continually enhancing our understanding of the pathogenesis of sweating disorders. It has since been elucidated that in addition to its temperature-regulating function perspiration offers bactericidal protection as well. In this book select authors further broaden our perspective on perspiration. Their contributions cover a variety of new aspects, offering insight into the sweat glands major role during the onset of disorders such as parapsoriasis, lichen planus, and lichen amyloidosis and highlighting the importance of Malassezia - an allergen in sweat that exacerbates atopic dermatitis and cholinergic urticaria. Further roles of the sweat glands are being discussed, including as storage of stem cells for replenishing epidermal cells in the case of thermal burns or as water retention sites for replenishing moisture in the stratum corneum. In addition, a novel analysis of the sweat glands threedimensional structures, using high-speed en-face optical coherence tomography (OCT), is being introduced. Offering an in-depth overview of the latest knowledge in perspiration research, this book serves as an essential reference for all medical staff and researchers in the field. Roberts, Brisbane, Qld. C. Surber, Basel P. van de Kerkhof, Nijmegen Official Organ of the Society for Dermopharmacy In the past decade research into skin pharmacology has rapidly developed with new and promising drugs and therapeutic concepts being introduced regularly. Recently, the use of nanoparticles for drug delivery in dermatology and cosmetology has become a topic of intensive research, yielding remarkable and in part surprising results. Another topic of current research is the use of tissue tolerable plasma in wound treatment. Stimulating not only wound healing processes but also the penetration of topically applied substances into the skin, this novel technique is expected to deliver very interesting results. There are many open questions which reflect the importance of the subject and the need for an international scientific forum where they can be discussed in extenso. Dermatologists, pharmaceutical chemists, pharmacologists, toxicologists, and others interested in the subject are invited to contribute and to submit their best research work for publication in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology.
