Three sons: Ebert E., Washington; Charles W. of Cottage Hills; and Lawrence, Alton; 21 grandchildren, one of whom, Miss Mary Damm was raised at their home; five great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Bernice Weisner, Greenfield and Mrs. Mildred Gibler, Rockbride; Two Brothers Carl, Girard; and Ernest, Riverton. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 30 at 1 pm at Shields Memorial Home. Rev James Brix officiated. Mrs. Herschel Williams was organist. Burial was in Oak Wood Cemetery. Casketbearers were Ebert Damm Jr. and James L Damm, both of Washington, Illinois; Richard Dannenbrink, Anton; David Steidley, of Hettick; Daniel and Timothy Tharp of Greenfield; Paul Damm of COttage Hills; Charles Damm of Hartford.[Loftis.FTW] Ebert C. Damm, 70, died at 10:05 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton. Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Greene County, he was a son of the late Ebert and Florence (Green) Damm. He was an U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War and was a business representative for District 9 Machinist for 15 years, retiring in He was a life member and past commander of Cottage Hills VFW, member of the Alton Moose Lodge No. 915, life member of Bethalto American Legion Post No. 214, and a 50-year member of Local 660. He was also affiliated with Family Motor Coach Association, Gateway Get-A-Way, served as quartermaster of Madison County Council, member of the Military Order of the Cooties, and held numerous positions in the 12th district. Damm was a former Scoutmaster with Troop 47 of Cottage Hills and held several elected offices for the local union. His companion, Betty McCarthy of Keyesport, survives. Also surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Ellen and David Hill of Godfrey and Margaret and Kent Barnett of Wood River; two sons and their spouses, Charles R. and Sally Damm of Alton and Paul W. and Gail Damm of Livingston; seven grandchildren, Dan Gray, Jason Damm, Jennifer Bogard, Lisa Damm, Laura Damm, Steven Barnett and Alan Barnett; four great-grandchildren, Adam Damm, Jacob Evans, Morgan Gray and Sarah Bogard; six sisters, Nadine Dannenbrink, Virginia Schneider, and Charlotte Damm, all of Alton, Florence Steidley of Hettick, Emma Harper of Rosewood Heights, and Shirley Loftis of California; two brothers, Ebert Damm of Washington and Lawrence Damm of Jerseyville; and four special friends, Debbie, Cathy, Theresa and Tammie. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday. Speakers will be Dave Hayes, financial secretary of Local 660 and Jim Brown, business director for District 9. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. She was born Sept. 25, 1936, in St. Louis, the daughter of James and Eva May (Michaels) Hankins. She married Ebert E. Damm March 31, 1957, in Carrollton, and he survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Ebert E. (wife Jennifer) Damm, Jr. of Galesburg and James Lawrence Damm of Canton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Pansy (husband Everett) Hardwick of Carrollton; two brothers, James L. (wife Cathryn) Hankins of Berry and William Glenn (wife Marsha) Hankins of Decatur. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dorothy Regina Hankins; and an infant brother, Paul Martin Hankins. Mrs. Damm had worked at Colonial Bakery Company in Peoria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. James Schuetz officiating.
