1 CELEBRATE EASTER 2016 AT SOUTHBANK CENTRE WITH URBAN, THE WONDERCRUMP WORLD OF ROALD DAHL AND EVENTS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY Southbank Centre s packed Easter programme kicks off the spring season with a celebration of community and city culture in Urban from Friday 25 March Sunday 10 April. With family events spanning theatre, dance, music, readings and workshops over half of the activities available for free Southbank Centre is the top London destination for family fun during the bank holiday weekend and school holiday. From Southbank Carnival and the opening of Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden to dance workshops, celebrate creativity and community in the heart of London. Also throughout the Easter, let imaginations run wild in The Wondercrump World of Roald Dahl, the critically-acclaimed immersive interactive experience, continuing until July Easter highlights include: Grass - a quirky dance show for young children explores the world beneath their feet and all of its wriggling inhabitants. Featuring worms, slugs, snails, spontaneous outbreaks of ant dancing and plenty of obscure insect-related facts, Grass uses performance, puppetry and projection to inspire children to look closely at the world around them, to get mucky and play! For ages 2 5. Presented by Second Hand Dance (Friday 8 Sunday 10 April) The Wondercrump World of Roald Dahl - an interactive experience that takes visitors on a magical journey through Roald Dahl s imagination, (open until Sunday 3 July, for ages 7+) Southbank Carnival - a day of events and workshops celebrating the carnival spirit including dancehall and Soca classes, carnival costume and decor workshops before the Southbank Carnival parade (Saturday 26 March) b.supreme Workshops - free, hour long dance workshops in break-dance, popping and locking for beginners and enthusiasts alike (Sunday 27 March) Urban Gardening - the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden opens for the spring and summer. Visitors can join in planting workshops and meet Southbank Centre s team of gardeners (Monday 28 March) and take part in some Guerilla Gardening with green expert Richard Reynolds (Saturday 2 April) Strive Monthly Mixer - Southbank Centre s talented Youth Ambassadors, all aged 16 to 25 help create festivals and events year long - join them as they put on a creative workshop (Saturday 2 April) Community dance workshops and showcases including residencies from BirdGang and Uchenna Dance Companies. Plus Pineapple Studio's community dance programme presents an afternoon of dance, performance and workshops led by local dance champions (Tuesday 29 Thursday 31 March)

The interactive experience takes visitors on a magical journey through seven different immersive worlds that explore Roald Dahl s life and the world of his iconic books. Featuring exclusive archival material from the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, including original manuscripts, personal letters, drawings, photographs and cherished objects, the exhibition offers a unique insight into the inspiration behind some of Dahl s best loved characters and stories. The exhibition will launched for Imagine in February and continues at Southbank Centre daily throughout spring until 3 July, before travelling to the Wales Millennium Centre. Using theatrical and contemporary dance processes you will get the opportunity to devise a work which explores the meaning of home. 5 65 for 4 days THURSDAY 7 APRIL Southbank Centre Poetry Tour With Chris McCabe Led by Poetry Librarian Chris McCabe this tour invites you to explore centuries of poetic activity in this area of London. Beginning at The Poetry Library, where an overview of the collections will be given, you will then be shown the hidden poems written into the pavements in front of The Royal Festival Hall and given a sense of the building as major site of poetic activity. You will find out about the notorious French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who lived on nearby Stamford Street in the 1870s and then experience an intoxicating poetic audio by poet Tom Chivers whilst walking to the site of William Blake s house on Hercules Road. The tour will end through showing a film of the Rain of Poems on Jubilee Gardens before returning to the library for a chance to see some of the rare gems from the collection.
