This years Board has to step down after two consecutive years of serving so all positions are available. It is a lot of fun to serve & keep in mind positions can be shared. These positions must be filled before the new year. We need to hear from you, the membership, by the end of this month so find a friend, share a job. It's not that hard & it's rewarding to be part of our success & get to know this great group of artists. Our finances are growing, membership is increasing & we are heading in a positive direction. Here is a brief description of each position & committees that need to be filled. President: Presides over meetings, votes in case of ties, supports & empowers officers & committee chairs (This position can be filled by a member who has served on the BOD before) FYI 1st Vice President: This position was not filled this year & would have been next in line for president. Main duty was to Chair The Art Fair which was discontinued. 2nd Vice President/Membership: Facilitate new member applications, set up interviews & keep membership list Secretary: Records minutes of Board meetings Treasurer: Handles Guild finances including checkbook & makes sure our bookkeeper has information to file taxes. Parliamentarian: Assists the Board in a historical & advisory capacity, maintains procedures according to Robert's Rules of order & the Guild's bylaws. Publicity Director: Promotes the events of the gallery through writing & providing press releases to the media; newspapers, magazines & Internet. Main focus is to keep us in the public eye. Committees: Take-In Committee: Meets 6 times a year -These 3-4 members are responsible for accepting, tagging & registering paintings for each show. They also sign people up for their work days in the gallery. We also need a clean up crew & bartender. This is an easy way to fill your duties to the Guild in 3 hours. Hanging Committee: 3 people needed to hang show & print labels Hospitality: Food (we have a small budget) - Reception set up Please reply to Cindy Klong at Artfully Yours, Your Board Of Directors Message From The Board

2 What a surprise. By Pat Macri Page 2 To send light into the darkness Carol Curtis Workshop of men s hearts such is the duty of the artist Schumann New member...elizabeth Levine Jewelry making by Kathy Bennett I m a jewelry maker in the Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild. If you have seen my jewelry in the case at the Gallery, you will notice that I like bright colors and bold jewelry. Each piece I make has its own personality and is unique. There are so many wonderful colors to work with and allowing me to create such wide variety of beautiful pieces. Each stone and gem gives you a special look and feel. I love to contrast the stone and materials that I use. For instance, I love the look of shiny crystals with rough, natural stone, such as turquoise. Or mixing hand made clay beads with shiny crystals and rough stones. Also, I love mixing shapes and a variety of colors. Mixing all of this variety adds to the interest and uniqueness of each piece. The key is finding a balance with the materials to create a pleasure for the eye. Also, key to my creations is the bold use of color. I love to mix bright, bold colors and also to mix a variety of stone types. Putting these materials together allows each piece to become a piece of art. I really enjoy creating and wearing the jewelry that I make because each piece is unique and happy. When I put each piece together I think about the combinations I have used and want the buyer to feel great when wearing each piece of jewelry art. Please feel free to take my pieces out and look at and enjoy the beautiful beads. Each bead is a piece of art in itself, just waiting to be touched. I find my beads all over the world. Where ever I travel I spend time looking at the beads of the country, finding bead stores and trying to find unique pieces to use in my creations. If you are interested in having me create a piece of jewelry art of you, using beads you have or mine, just let me know. Or if you are interested in having me create a piece of jewelry that incorporates certain colors, let me know, I m happy to create a special piece just for you. Many thanks to the members who have purchased my pieces of jewelry art and are enjoying them! Cathy Bennett

His sculpting instruction has been at the LaJolla Athenaeum and a rare workshop at the Getty Museum in Santa Monica. His medical training and knowledge of anatomy have been helpful in his figurative work in which he attempts to demonstrate the grace and beauty of the human body. His psychiatric training and thirty-five years of psychiatric practice have helped Flanagan appreciate the emotions evoked by sculptural art. He does his work at his studio which he admits is as large as a two-car garage and in fact is a two-car garage at his home in the Stratford Community of Fairbanks Ranch. In spite of his family s persistent praise and his recent awards he reports that he has the good sense to keep his day job as Medical Director of a local psychiatric hospital where he continues to practice psychiatry as a hospitalist. AWARDS: Third place, APA Art Association Exhibit, San Francisco, 2009 Special Award, Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild, 2010 First Place, Sculpture, APA Art Association Exhibit, New Orleans, 2010 Best of Show, APA Art Association Exhibit, New Orleans, 2010 Best of Show, RSF Art Guild, 2011 The bronze piece, Muybridge s Running Man that won Best of Show at the Guild was recently accepted into the upcoming San Diego Fair.
