2 WELCOME The 2019 Annual Sale marks the 17th year we have sold bulls in a structured format and the 21st year we have sold seedstock. We are excited for our customer appraisal of the offering. There is no question that it is the deepest and highest quality group we have offered to date. Many of our strongest relationships have been forged through our customers. Our family truly enjoys the cattle business and the people that comprise the industry. We are fortunate to have been blessed with a way of life that promotes our desire to raise good kids and genetically progressive cattle. Practical performing, easy handling cattle with favorable convenience traits, as stated annually, will always be the priority at Schrader Ranch. Consistency and uniformity fit firmly in that mix as well. Therefore, regardless of breed or breed percentages, our philosophy remains similar throughout. Chores are more enjoyable for all facets of the industry if cattle are thrifty, likeable and good looking. Direct Link traded nearly 16,000 head of feeder cattle this past calendar year. Just as importantly, Direct Link helped producers realize market value on an estimated 10,000 additional head through customer support. We are serious about service. Whether or not Direct Link handles the trade is secondary to helping producers realize value potential of their calf crop. Once you turn east, follow the blacktop about 10 miles through the curves as the road eventually turns straight north and becomes 210th. The ranch is located on the east side of the corner of 210th and Oxbow From Clay Center - Go South 9 miles on 15 Hwy to the Oakhill blacktop road and turn west. (There is a power station on the East). Go west about 22 miles where a big curve will take you South. From the curve, Oxbow Rd is about 5 miles South. The ranch is on the East side of the road. From Bennington (Hwy 18) - Take Nelson street north (which is the main street) about 7 miles to the first stop sign. Continue north another two miles to the second stop sign. Turn east onto Limestone road. Follow the curves (about 6 miles eventually going straight north) to Oxbow Road. The ranch sits on the east side. SALE PROCEDURE All bulls will be given a base price. Any bulls having multiple buyer interest will be bid off. Otherwise, bulls with single buyer interest can be purchased at the base price. ANNOUNCEMENTS All announcements made sale day will take precedence over printed material. SALE TERMS AND CONDITIONS All animals sell under the terms and conditions of their respective breed associations. CARCASS INFORMATION A supplement sheet of ultrasound results will be posted on our website, and available sale day. BULL VIDEOS Videos of each bull will be posted on our website on or before March 15th. SIGHT-UNSEEN PURCHASED BULLS If you are unable to attend, we will be happy to help purchase bulls on order with a guarantee of satisfaction. All we ask is that you give us plenty of advance notice prior to the sale to fully discuss possibilities. DELIVERY OR PICK-UP DISCOUNT A $50 per bull discount is available to buyers who take their purchases home sale day. Otherwise, free delivery will be offered up to 300 miles from Schrader Ranch. Beyond that, we will assist to the best of our ability with travel arrangements. BULL WARRANTY If any problems arise with purchases, we will work diligently to find solutions. Fill free to contact us before the sale to discuss our policies. INSURANCE We will do everything in our power to ensure a safe environment for bulls until they go to their new homes. However, after the conclusion of the bid-off, the cattle become property of the buyer. Insurance options will be available sale day. 14 CharX: America s Favorite Feeder On America s predominately Angus and British based commercial cow herd, the Continental Cross of a Charolais Bull is the unsung hero of today s beef industry. More than ever, the use of breed complimentary traits and heterosis is needed to produce more efficient beef and maximize producer s profits. Charolais brings the growth, feed conversion, carcass weight, optimum yield grade, and % red meat yield as an ideal match to the maternal traits and quality grade provided by British based cowherds. These breed compliments alone prove the value of crossbreeding as a means to achieve growth orientated cattle with a high % of Yield Grades 1 & 2 s without sacrificing Quality Grade. 15 SIMMENTAL BULLS EPD DEFINITIONS AND TERMS Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing in what units they are expressed. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, sire A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more weaning weight than sire B. If calving ease was the trait, sire A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if sire B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect sire A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed.
