It has certainly come around quickly another newsletter because there are things to tell our members more interesting workshops, interesting events and the working bee. Please be an active member and come into the gallery even if just to have a look. Tell your friends about it bring them along. At a recent party I was talking to some local people who had no idea as to where we are located and they seemed to be genuinely interested when I told them about the sorts of goodies that we have here on display. I d like to be able to put a little bit of news about one or two members in each newsletter. Have you been doing something you could share with members? Participated in a craft/art course? Visited interesting places? Achieved something? Got a photo or two to show? Send it to me at the gallery so I can include it in one of our newsletters. I hope you all enjoy this newsletter as much as I have done in producing it. NEXT GENERAL MEETING - Saturday 6 th April, 2013 at 11am. BODY OF WORKS WINNER On Sunday, 24 th February, the winner of the Body of Works exhibition was announced, and our president, Faye Long had the pleasure of presenting Shelley Wright with the prize for her work, Victoria. Congratulations, Shelley, and also congratulations to all the others who entered their wonderful works. THE DUTY ROSTER: welcome back to Lynette Brown after her Asian holiday. Lynette hopes to have some info time for roster duty members during the working bee on 11 th May.

This fascinating historical exhibition was opened on Saturday 2nd March and about 100 people attended it.

It is an oral history of Goulburn based on some 90 interviews.

2 PHOTOS & FASHIONS IN TIME & BOOK LAUNCH: Part of Goulburn s 150 th Anniversary celebrations. 3 rd 23 rd March, This fascinating historical exhibition was opened on Saturday 2nd March and about 100 people attended it. There is a wall of photos, some books and there are clothes on mannequins and on hangers to illustrate the changing fashions. Of course many of us will relate to a number of them but there are some from dates before any of us were around. The following photos give some idea as to the exhibition but it is best to come and see it for yourself. Bring your friends and relatives too. The book launched is Memories of Goulburn by Heather West and Lynette brown. It is an oral history of Goulburn based on some 90 interviews. A lady from yesteryear on the left has a photo (above) of the original owner of this dress along with her husband and child ancestors of Judith Bradhurst who owns the Maud collection. An elegantly dressed mannequin (right) looks serenely towards the photo display. The young lady (left) appears to be resting her tired feet and the photo display from old glass negatives owned by Lynette Brown (their quality is amazing) is behind her. Shoes, hat and a blouse are displayed (above) and some really smart dressers are to the left.

Above are recipe books and a glimpse of an embroidered doily that reminded me of my mother s hobby when I was a child. An excellently tailored man s suit is featured to the right. Just 3 of the photos from Lynette s glass plate negatives. As you can see, the quality is excellent. If I had space I would put more of them here. They show a little of activities in Goulburn about 100 years or so ago. The justifiably proud authors, Lynette Brown and Heather West hold a copy of their book, Memories of Goulburn. To the right are shown some of the visitors to the Gallery for the opening. Congratulations to Heather & Lynette on the launching of their book, to Maree Emmerton for the displayed wedding dress and to Carol for the organization of the exhibit and making many of her items available for the exhibition. Goulburn & District Art Society Life Drawing and Painting Workshop Male Model Alex Mortensen participated in the ACOS Summer School Life Drawing & Painting class. In this workshop Alex will impart some of the skills and ideas he learned from Pauline Adair, his tutor at the 5 day summer school. Main media to be used will be charcoal, graphite and watercolours. Further information can be seen in the GDAS newsletter pinned up in the crib room and on the GDAS website : Fee: GDAS members free; for non-members of GDAS is $30. Please note that preference will be given to GDAS members in the first instance but there are probably places for non-members. Saturday 4 th May and Sunday 5 th May, 2013: A Weekend to Dye For! Kathy Geurts. There we were occupying the Gallery's workshop space both inside and outside. Everywhere were our magic pots filled with wonderful assortments of plant materials and fabrics as 16 enthusiastic students boiled up all sorts of recipes to dye and imprint silks, wools, cottons and yarns. Here are some pictures from the first natural dyed workshop held at the Gallery on March16 and 17. If you missed out on this wonderful course, Kathy Geurts will be running another natural dyeing workshop on May 4 and 5 this time that will include indigo, cochineal, fustic and some other plant materials not included in the previous workshop. There will also be more time to experiment with the effects of mordants to the dyeing process, shibori techniques and more eco printing. If you are interested in this workshop which will fill again quickly, contact Kathy directly on or for bookings and enquiries. Some examples of dye work. Sunday 7 th April, 2013: Zentangling Workshop I recently became obsessed with zentangling after teaching at a creative retreat where I was introduced to this beautiful art form. Zentangling is doodling using repeat patterns. It is sweeping the states, as artists embrace the form for creative purposes and others for its meditative results. In this workshop, you will learn how to zentangle so that you can take this drawing technique and apply it to whatever medium you are comfortable with, whether it be for embroidery, printing, jewellery, clothing, artwork, furniture and so on. Sunday April 7, am pm. $120 at Gallery On Track, Blackshaw Road, Goulburn. Costs include all materials, notes, morning and afternoon tea.

Website: Examples of zentangling ROSE FESTIVAL ART EXHIBITION SATURDAY 9 TH -SUNDAY 10 TH MARCH, am-4pm The Goulburn & District Art Society is holding its Rose Exhibition at The RSL, Market St, upstairs in the Belmore Room. All works are for sale. Come along, bring people with you. You might like to buy a painting or you might just want to look. WORKING BEE AT GALLERY ON TRACK Saturday 11 th May. 11am to 3pm We hope to see quite a few members turn up to help on the garden area at this working bee. There should be soil to spread and plants to plant. Bring some garden tools if you can as that would be of use. Work clothes that you don t mind getting dirty would also be useful, plus a pair of gardening gloves to look after those crafty and arty hands! There will be a sausage sizzle lunch for participants. Cherie is asking for members who have any of the following plants to start propagating them now and bring to the gallery for planting on the day: Oregano, Marjoram, Thyme, Sage (low growing varieties), Prostrate Rosemary, Erigeron, Snow in Summer. Often this work is behind the scenes and not at all obvious but has involved much and frequent effort. On the right is one of our display units holding a variety of craft and art items.
