For Brow, the structure ad choices the dacers make i how to deliver themselves to the ceter is as provocative as the steps performed. The dacers are a itegral part of her process through the choices they make. The foudatio of this project is the experiece of steppig iside Trisha Brow s choreographic process. Hill remarks, Videotapes ad books are ot eough to study Balachie. Therefore, operatig alogside this course was the rehearsal ad performace of the first movemet of Balachie s Sereade, with permissio from the Balachie Trust. This was the first time i FCDD history that studets from the Five Colleges performed Balachie repertory. To Hill, the collaboratio of theory, history, ad practice was ideal for a academic settig. Professor Rose Flachs (MH), who has performed Balachie ballets i her professioal career, oversaw the project. Studets leared the choreography from Victoria Simo, a former Balachie dacer ad a member of the Balachie Trust. The dacers participated i ie performaces o three differet campuses (MH, SC, ad UM). Flachs says that this movemet from Sereade was appropriate for the FCDD s 25th aiversary because historically, Mr. Balachie first choreographed the ballet for studets. Katie Bailey (MH), a studet i the course ad performer i Sereade, believes that this collaboratio provided a cotext for her dacig; it made her feel more i tue with the style of Balachie ad helped me fid a little more about what I was portrayig, she said. The project was so successful that Victoria Simo has give the FCDD permissio to perform more Balachie ballets. t h o m a s g i r o i r 2 Five College Dace Departmet ewsletter
