1 The Irondequoit Art Club November SAM s Snippets by Sheila ( S.A.M. ) Shrestha Ages & Ages. There are ages and then there are ages. Have you got that? I hope not or else I wouldn t get to write this month s Snippets! First, let me say, that my life is so full of weirdness lately that even when I am minding my own business, something out of the blue occurs. But then, I m sure all artists observe something out of the blue from time to time! Last week, to unwind and to enjoy the music of the Johnny Matt Band, my husband and I went ballroom dancing at Wegman s on Empire Blvd. Suddenly, a young lady holding a cell phone camera, tapped me on the shoulder and said Excuse me but you look so much like my friend. I couldn t believe the resemblance. I want to send her your picture so that she can see how she will look when she gets older! I didn t have the courage to ask her how old she thought I was. Some things are better left unsaid! With another birthday rapidly approaching and as a consolation, I reminded myself that art is ageless and so is the soul of the artist. As an example of this, I remembered that one of the founders of the Irondequoit Art Club, Bing Thayer, produced great, timeless art into her 90s. One of my work colleagues had seen her exhibit at Nazareth Arts Center and remarked that her art was very modern and trendy. He believed it was produced by a very young woman. Age is only a number. It can reveal how old you are biologically, how old you look or how old you feel inside. In my life, sometimes the latter figure seems like twenty and sometimes more like 150 years! At any rate, art is timeless as evidenced by vast exhibits in art museums, galleries and private collections all over the world. You might say, that in these cases, being hung up is not a problem! As a true silk artist, I am always dyeing to please and in dancing as well as in my silk art, I try to put my best foot forward. Hopefully, therein lies the fountain of youth! When creating, remind yourself that your art will be forever. Literally put your best image forward and go for the gusto. Let your art 1 and soul dance together making beautiful music always.
