Na Leo O Atlas ATLAS INSURANCE AGENCY VOLUME 12, ISSUE 7 JULY 2016 Summer Boot Camp! one Atlas Bishop Street Suite 1600 Honolulu, HI Inside this issue: Summer Boot Camp 1 3 In June, Island Holdings started a Summer Wellness Campaign and all companies can participate in the Boot Camp. They offer a wide range of zumba/exercise classes, minute physical activity challenge, Wellness Bingo Challenge, Walking Wednesdays, and the popular one, Selfie Fridays! First we had to walk to the King Kamehameha statue and then the next one was to the statue of Father Damien. If you participate in these events, you can earn gold stars. The goal is 30 stars and if you earn that amount, you get to be on the 30 Gold Star Wall of Famers and receive a free shaker bottle that says I survived Wellness Boot Camp! And there were four star players at Atlas that got on that Wall of Famers early Vivian Haitsuka, Chong Kenison, Steven Lam and Aleksandr Razloga. Good job! We wanted to share in all the selfies that were taken, and we thought that was a great idea as it even made a chance to have team bonding when walking in a group together downtown! Thank you to Island Holdings for kicking off this Summer Wellness Campaign, looking forward to the Wellness Jam coming up on August 12...this all has definitely stirred up some competition in the office...in a good way! :) Welcome! 3 4 New Business Agents 4 Toastmasters 5 Straight from the Heart 6 7 Submit your articles, pictures or suggestions to: Kristen Ribilla kribilla@atlasinsurance.com Atlas early 30 Gold Star Wall of Famers!

ATLAS INSURANCE AGENCY PAGE 3 Summer Boot Camp, Cont. Welcome, Jeremy! By Bonnie Pang Atlas Employee Benefits is pleased to introduce Jeremy Imai, Account Executive as the newest member of the Benefit team! Jeremy will fill the role as sales producer for Employee Benefits. Prior to joining Atlas Insurance Agency, Jeremy was a partner with Hawaii Medical Concierge, an exclusive medical concierge service for Hawaii residents. Jeremy brings with him nine years in the health care industry. He is married, and on his way to mastering his role as father to a toddler. Please join me in welcoming Jeremy Imai to the Atlas Insurance family!
ATLAS INSURANCE AGENCY PAGE 4 Welcome, Samanatha! By Dana Tokioka Please welcome (officially) Samantha Ranit as our Receptionist. She is a familiar face as she started off through here through a temp agency and we liked her so much we wanted to keep her! Samantha recently came from Bank of Hawaii as a Customer Care Rep, and is a graduate of James Campbell High School. In her free time, she likes to hike, go to the beach, and take on any adventure that comes her way. Interesting fact she never uses metal utensils not even at home or 5-star restaurants! She will ask for plastic utensils. Please welcome Samantha, or Sam for short, to the Atlas Ohana! Welcome, Linn! By Anna Gima Linn Hedges has joined our Accounting Department as an Accounting Supervisor. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and has lived in New Jersey, Maryland, Louisiana and finally found home in Hawaii. She had been working with numbers and finances since she was 10 years old, helping her mom with balancing the checkbook. Most of her recent experiences had been with non-profits and so the insurance industry is new to her. A career in Accounting came naturally, but her original goal was working for Walt Disney as she pursued art and business. So to keep her creative side active, she does home renovation projects such as flooring the entire house! Impressive! She is married and has six wonderful children 1 biological and 5 hanai. Welcome Linn! New Business Agents Commercial Personal Gerald Takeuchi Matthew Arine
ATLAS INSURANCE AGENCY PAGE 5 Eh, We Go Beach! By Kristen Ribilla Beach Party was the theme of our last Toastmaster s meeting and boy did I feel like going to the beach. Chenise, our Toastmaster of the day, walked in with her beach wear and beach towel, listening to the tunes of Bob Marley, all jubilated. (Jubilate was the word of the day to show great happiness; rejoice) And every time someone spoke, you had to give your best beach memory, and a lot of interesting stories came out of that! Being that this is only my second meeting, I am still getting the hang of things, but I was lucky to hear three fabulous speeches and I experienced three different feelings as once: hunger, heartwarming, and humor. First, Stephen Parker spoke about how to make The Gordon Ramsay Burger which made me drool and want to head right over to BLT Steak in Waikiki. Then Lily Yamamoto hit us with an emotional speech about What is love?, is it an act of kindness? Patience? Care? And last but not least, a humorous speech came up next Pukiki (Portuguese) 4 Life by Michael Cravalho, also known as Potogee, or Pocho.which I can definitely relate to. They were all wonderful speeches, all tugged at different feelings, but the best speaker award actually went into a tie, (the first time ever) and the winners were Lily Yamamoto & Michael Cravalho. Congratulations you two! If anyone interested in joining Toastmasters, please check out our next meeting on Thursday, August 18th from 12:00 1:00 p.m. in the Atlas Board Room. You just may like it!
ATLAS INSURANCE AGENCY PAGE 6 Summer is UV Safety Awareness Month! By Bonnie Pang & Vivian Haitsuka UV-B rays have short wavelengths that reach the outer layer of your skin and they also UV-A rays have longer wavelengths that can penetrate the middle layer of your skin. Here are the harmful things unprotected sun exposure can do: Cause vision problems and damage to your eyes Suppression of the immune system Premature aging of the skin Skin cancer 2016 HEART Committee Aleksandr Razloga, x-8740 Anna Gima, x-8714 Chenise Blalock, x-8680 Daun Watanabe, x-8610 Kristen Ribilla, x-8791 Vince Miyoi, x-8719 Vivian Haitsuka, x HEART Committee Advisors Bonnie Pang, x-8651 Lance Kawano, x-8725 Sharon Hodson, x-8657 Steven Pang, x-8619 Vince Miyoi, x-8719 Naomi Sutton, WorkLife Hawaii What you can do to minimize the risk that comes with sun exposure. 1. Cover Up: Wearing a Hat (preferably wide brimmed) or other shade-protective clothing can partly shield your skin from the harmful effects of UV ray exposure. Proper clothing may include long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and Sunglasses - for eye protection. 2. Stay in the Shade: The sun's glare is most intense at midday. Staying in the shade between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. will further protect your skin. The sun can still damage your skin on cloudy days or in the winter. For this reason, it is important to stay protected throughout the year. 3. Choose the Right Sunscreen: This is extremely important. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) new regulations for sunscreen labeling recommend that your sunscreen have a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15, and should protect against both Ultraviolet A (UV-A) and Ultraviolet B (UV-B) rays. 4. Use the Right Amount of Sunscreen: According to the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention, most people apply only percent of the recommended amount of sunscreen. When out in the sun, it's important that you apply at least one ounce (a palm full) of sunscreen every two hours. You should apply it more often if you are sweating or swimming, even if the sunscreen is waterproof. Courtesy of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
