Teens in London: Lucy & her Egyptian family Transcript Seite 1 0:04 Lucy and her mother are going to a market today. This market has many different kinds of fruits and vegetables on offer. (0:15) They are buying fresh ingredients for a family dinner at the weekend. 0:22 Mother You have some aubergines? You have small aubergine? Okay, can I have two, please? 0:31 Aubergines are typical of Egyptian meals. Lucy s parents come from Egypt. And Lucy can even introduce herself in Arabic. 0:40 Ismi Lucy, omri tlatasch sana wa aiicho fi inglatera. (arabisch) 0:46 And once again in English, please: 0:49 My name is Lucy. I m 13 years old and I live in England. 0:54 Vorspann 1:10 The shopping for the weekend is done. Lucy and her mum have found all the ingredients. 1:16 Me and my mum we are going to cook the Egyptian meal and then we are going to have it with our family. 1:24 Lucy and her mother have some time left to stroll around. The thirteen-year-old girl enjoys going for a walk through her neighbourhood. But not alone, only with her mother. 1:36 Here in Streatham, which is in the south of London, there is a special high street. Streatham High Road was voted the worst street in Britain in 2002, because of poverty and traffic chaos. It s safer and better now, but still it s not a good place for younger teenagers.
Teens in London: Lucy & her Egyptian family Transcript Seite 2 1:56 Lucy s mother watches out for her daughter. That is why Lucy feels safe and fine here. 2:04 I quite like it in London but I can t really imagine myself living anywhere else because I m really used to living here. So, it would be quite hard to adopt different life styles in different countries. 2:15 The shopping bags are put into the car boot. It s time to go home. Lucy has to get up early for school tomorrow. 2:26 Streatham and Clapham High School is a private school just for girls. Lucy is on the way to her lessons. She is especially looking forward to the last lesson before the weekend starts: it s sport. Lucy goes through the school building to reach the playing field. 2:47 Her class is playing rounders. It s very popular at British schools and is similar to American baseball. 2:58 You have a bat and a ball and you have four posts. And you have to try to get a rounder which is going around the whole way. And half a rounder is if you get to the second post. And you have to try not to get out. 3:12 Anpfiff 3:15 And go! The girls have to throw the ball, run around the field, and pass the different posts. 3:27 Go Lucy! 3:28 Lucy is cheering for a girl in her class with the same name as her. 3:34 Lucy I m gonna miss the ball.
Teens in London: Lucy & her Egyptian family Transcript Seite 3 3:37 It s not exhausting but it s quite hard to hit the ball cause you miss it, well, I miss quite a lot, yeah. 3:45 It s Lucy s turn now and she is not happy about that at all. Will she hit the ball? 3:57 That was a miss. And that was another! 4:02 Well done! Lucy starts running. 4:07 She reaches the different posts. And: she made it. 4:14 teacher Okay, ladies, that s it for today. 4:17 The sport lesson is over, and so is school. Now it s time for the weekend. 4:24 The next day. Lucy is waiting for her friend. 4:28 Lucy and Keira Hi Lucy, how are you. Good, thanks. 4:32 Lucy and her friend Keira are planning to go shopping in town before Lucy has dinner with her family tonight. (4:41) The girls are chatting about school and the latest news. Lucy s and Keira s parents have allowed them to take a trip into the City Centre on their own. They are already excited. The big shopping streets are coming closer. And they are really into shopping. 5:00 Lucy and Keira Yeah, that s basically what we do. I love shopping and hanging out with friends.
Teens in London: Lucy & her Egyptian family Transcript Seite 4 5:09 Lucy and Keira want to do a bit of window shopping at first, just for a start. 5:16 Oh my god. 5:17 There are many fancy shops but they are too expensive for their pocket money. The two friends are searching for a special shop they ve heard about. They have to ask where it is. 5:28 Excuse me, do you know where Abercrombie & Fitch is? I do actually. Just keep walking straight down this lane. It s about 200 meters and than it is on the right hand side. There is actually no signs like Abercrombie & Fitch. But you hear loud music. It s a really old big building. You just keep going this way. Thank you very much, bye, you re welcome. 5:49 No wonder they cannot find the brand-new shop on their own. Regent and Oxford Street are just huge. You can easily get lost. Everyone comes here to go shopping, Londoners as well as visitors. It s one of London s highlights. (6:13) Finally, there it is! Lucy and Keira have found their hot shop. 6:24 And their shopping was successful. 6:29 and Keira We bought a top and I bought a T-Shirt. 6:33 It s time for Lucy to go home to Streatham. 6:42 Lucy s family lives in one of these terraced houses. They look small. But they are comfortable. 6:55 The preparations for the Egyptian family dinner have already started. Lucy s mother cooks the main course with the fresh aubergines which they bought the other day.
Teens in London: Lucy & her Egyptian family Transcript Seite 5 7:09 Mother and Lucy Lucy. Coming. Can you come and help me. 7:13 Lucy arrives in her new shirt. It s time for the dessert. It s called Cataifi. 7:20 The special thing about the Cataifi is that is very sweet. And it s a traditional Egyptian dessert with a lot of fruit and nuts that we have. 7:34 While Lucy and her mother cook in the kitchen, Lucy s sister Linda and her father are relaxing in the living room. 7:44 In the meantime the Egyptian dessert is almost finished. What is still missing are some nuts, raisins and the rest of the pastry. And now into the oven. (7:58) The special Egyptian dinner is ready. Lucy s family normally eats British food. 8:06 We have a lot of fish and chips and the English breakfast which is sausage, eggs, beans and bacon. But I don t prefer Egyptian or English food. I like them the same. 8:24 Obviously Lucy likes the Egyptian dinner. And so does the rest of the family. 8:31 Father I m looking forward for my dessert. 8:34 That s the keyword! Everyone is looking forward to eating Cataifi, the dessert. It s really tasty, sweet and juicy. And authentic. The only difference to Egypt: some clotted cream is missing. 8:49 Sister and Mother Do you like it? Do you remember when we had it in Alexandria. We had it with clotted cream, yeah, very nice.
Teens in London: Lucy & her Egyptian family Transcript Seite 6 8:59 Lucy s family goes to Alexandria just once a year to visit their relatives. 9:05 I m from Egypt, so we go there on holiday quite a lot, which I m quite lucky to do cause I have a lot of family there. And we have traditional Egyptian food at times, which some people don t know about. 9:20 There s still a few weeks until their holidays. But the Egyptian dessert tastes just as good at home, in London.
