6 Issue June 2017 Primary Residential Trip The primary department went on their annual residential trip to Carroty Wood this week. We took part in a range of fun and exciting activities including rock climbing, archery, high ropes course, low ropes course, team building and fire lighting. We all had a fantastic time with everybody joining in all activities and many of us trying activities for the first time. The weather was really hot, which was good. A big thanks to everyone who helped support the trip. Continued on next page Drumbeat School & ASD Service 6

8 KS4 and KS5 successful bid for funds to the Young Mayor and Young Advisors Group Lewisham has a well-established elected Young Mayor and Young Advisors Group. Each year a young person between the ages of 13 and 17 years is elected to represent their peers in Lewisham and also takes part in regional, national and European projects and discussions. They work with politicians, council officers and partners like the Health Services and the Police to improve and develop services for young people and make sure their views and opinions are part of decision making processes. The Young Mayor has a budget of 25,000 to spend, after consultation with other young people in the borough. Following consultations with school councils, youth groups and young people over the last year, one of the outcomes for the young Mayors budget is to create a funding pot for young people to bid into to create their own projects or activities. During the consultation young people showed that they had many ideas and enthusiasm to create projects. In order to enable young people to take some of these projects forward and in light of diminishing alternative resources the Young Mayor and Advisors allocated 10,000 out of their budget for young people to apply for to develop their own projects. After an application and interview process the panel of young advisors would like to support Drumbeat Brockley s Tuck Shop expansion project which is run by young people for young people. With this investment we will purchase a barista style coffee machine and professional kitchen equipment to upscale our in house work experience training placements for KS4 and KS5. Once established we hope to invite students from neighbouring SEN schools and inclusion units to visit our Tuck Shop. The options group who had input in the bid were keen to meet new people and showcase their work based skills. A big well done to the youth club options group who shared their ideas and worked with Kate and Sarah to produce the successful bid. We will update you with Tuck Shop developments in the near future.
