2 The 50th Annual NORTH CAROLINA Hereford Classic SALE is dedicated to Mr. Keith Blinson and Mr. Bill Perry and all other charter members On August 5, 1957, a group of very progressive polled Hereford breeders met at the urging of Mr. Bill Perry at The Cardinal Motel in Raleigh and decided to leave the North Carolina Hereford Association and form a new association to be known as the North Carolina Polled Hereford Association. Mr. W.P. Morris was elected President, Mr. W.L. Teeter was elected Vice President, and Mr. W.T. Grey was elected Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. H.C. Adair was appointed Chairman of the Sales Committee. In March of 1968 the association held its first sale in Lenoir. Colonel Morris Fannon was the auctioneer for this sale. This association continued to operate as the North Carolina Polled Hereford Association until 2007, at which time the name was changed to the present North Carolina Hereford Association. Merger of the national associations was the primary reason for this change. Over the last 50 years the association has sponsored many sales. At one time there were three sales. There was an All-Bull Sale, which was held in Raleigh and two consignment sales, which were held at different locations. Some of the locations were Raleigh, Lenoir, Concord, Rutherfordton and Fletcher. The present annual sale is held in Statesville at Stamey Farms. The annual business meeting and banquet are held in conjunction with this sale. We are very fortunate to have two present members of our association who were present at the very first meeting, Mr. Bill Perry and Mr. Keith Blinson. They are still active members of our association. We are very pleased to dedicate our 50th anniversary sale to these two gentlemen. Keith and his wife Peggy live in Lenoir in the Oak Hill Community. The cattle are located on one farm with hay fields scattered throughout the community. Keith purchased his first Herefords in He has served in every office of the association except Secretary/Treasurer. He was inducted into the State Fair Hall of Fame and has served as President of the North Carolina Cattlemen s Association. Keith and Peggy are very active in their church and many community activities. The Binsons owned and operated Blinson Construction Company for over 40 years. Keith and Peggy feel their greatest accomplishment is their family. They have one son, Bryan, who is Executive Director of the North Carolina Cattlemen s Association. Bryan started showing cattle at about the same time he started school. Bryan and his wife, Beth, have two daughters, Rossie and Mason. These young ladies have achieved almost every honor that the Junior Hereford Association has to offer. Bryan and both girls have served as directors of the National Junior Hereford Association. To see true happiness from Keith and Peggy, talk about their family! Bill and his wife, Nancy, live in Siler City in the Silk Hope Community. Bill and son Jackie continue to raise cattle on two different farms. Son Chris lives in Donalds, South Carolina, and he and Bill started a very unique program with junior breeders that have an interest in showing cattle. Bill and Chris gave away five heifers to deserving youth to show and keep. The recipients have up to five years to give a heifer back to the program, which in turn will be given to another youngster. Bill worked 16 years for the National Polled Hereford Association as a Regional Field Representative. His area included North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, parts of Tennessee and all of New England. Bill was able to establish a polled association in every state he represented. After leaving the Polled Hereford Association, he managed an insurance agency for Alamance Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 20 years.
