2 PRESIDENT S REPORT Hello Everyone, For those who do not know, Kaylee is now the 10 th Committee Member. Please offer her and other Committee Members a hand from time to time. At the end of each Social, if we could have help washing up, sweeping floors and stacking chairs, that would be most appreciated. By turning up to support our Club, you will help make it THE BEST COUNTRY COMMUNITY CLUB in South East Queensland! We are endeavouring to build up Socials with more Dress Ups, (Theme Nights) and more Guest Artists. Our last couple of Socials have proven this is the way to go, with so much positive feedback. The last Social was one of the best we have had in some time, with the Elderly Brothers, the Wrangler Rock N Roll Band, The Airlie Beach Bum Trio, and Michele, and of course our vocalists and bands. To all who attended, if you enjoyed the night, tell a friend or two, or bring them along! All are welcome! Our Country Escape has grown to over 100 each day. It is just great to know we help these lovely people and put the smiles on their faces. Again, I must thank those who help on the day to make it the success that it is. So keep it fun, Keep it country, let s make it happen Max
3 EDITOR S REPORT What an amazing month we have had for talent. Starting with our 7 th April Social, the night started with Greg Gall opening the show. Excellent job Greg. Our Guest Artists were the Wrangler Rock N Roll Band, they were fantastic, lots of dancing and fun was had by all, totally enjoyed all of their music, hope you all come back soon. Because we had a lot of members away due to other commitments for the April 21 st Social, I was a little apprehensive about how the night would turn out! Well, silly me, we just had talent coming from everywhere, starting with Rani opening the show! Well done Rani! Apart from our talented Brigalow members who entertain, we had the Elderly Brothers, great show guys, we totally enjoyed your music. We had The Airlie Beach Bums, Fran, Eric and Gav, not only great entertainers but lovely people as well. Thank you, loved your music. We also had Kim Cope, Michele McAllister, Lisa, Ronnie Clarke who I snagged for a guest spot in July. Thanks to our Band for a wonderful job as always, Russell, Eric, Cecil, Graeme, Ian, Michele and Rani, we couldn t have done it without you all. The night was big, and it ran very smoothly thanks to some great people such as the Kitchen trio, Jeff on the Bar, Kathy on the door, Lynda and Clare for doing the raffles, and Kate for her lovely photos. Max for all he does, and me the MC. It s so good when a Club like ours pulls together. I am proud and honored to be part of the Brigalow family. I would also like to say thank you to all our gorgeous members and guests who just come along to listen and enjoy what we have to offer. Always smiling, always happy. Our Country Escape days are always a pleasure. We enjoy you all as much as you enjoy us. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Mums, both here on Earth and in Heaven, a lovely Mother s Day. That s all from me this month, Gotta Love Brigalow. 4 A MOTHER S HEART A MOTHER S HEART BEATS ONLY FOR THE CHILDREN SHE HAS BORNE, THROUGH ALL THE YEARS IT S CARRIED ON, IT S NEVER TIRED OR WORN. A MOTHER S HEART IS HAPPY, AS SHE SEES HER CHILDREN GROW, SHE ONLY WANTS THE BEST FOR THEM, THROUGH TIMES BOTH HIGH AND LOW. A MOTHER S HEART IS ALWAYS THERE, SO FULL OF LOVE AND CARE, NEVER DOUBT IT BEATS FOR YOU, YOU LL FIND A SOLACE THERE. THEN, WHEN HER HEART IS STILLED, AND SHE S GONE TO HEAVENLY REST, THE LOSS OF ONE SO DEAR TO YOU, WILL PUT YOU TO THE TEST. REMEMBER, SHE IS WITH YOU STILL, HER SPIRIT WILL NOT DEPART, YOU LL ALWAYS HAVE THE COMFORT, FROM YOUR DARLING MOTHER S HEART. WORDS BY DOREEN FRASER WISHING ALL THE MUMS, BOTH HERE AND IN HEAVEN, A VERY HAPPY MOTHER S DAY
5 NANNA MERLE S RECIPES Jelly Slice Base 1 packet crushed Nice biscuits Melt 6oz butter, Mix together, press in slice tray and set in fridge. Middle Filling 1 tin condensed milk, 1/3 cup lemon juice, mix together. Leave. Dissolve I dessert spoon gelatin powder in ¾ cup of boiling water. Mix with condensed milk mixture and pour over base and let set in fridge. Top filling Dissolve 2 packets Strawberry Jelly in 2 & ½ cups of boiling water, mix well and let stand until completely cooled. Do not remove base tray from fridge. Leave on fridge shelf, pull tray out a little and spoon the jelly mixture over set condensed mixture. This stops mixture from ending up on the floor while you carry it to the fridge. Leave in fridge until set. And yummo enjoy. NOEL S HELPFUL HINTS The microphone stands are helpful tools for singers, which if handled with care will last many years. The microphone can also cause problems. Adjusting microphone to mouth distance can constantly change volume. The Club largely uses Near Field Microphones which are designed NOT to pick up stage noises, so to pick up vocals you can position your mouth close to capsule around one inch, Back off from microphone when singing loud passages. Placing your hand over microphone capsule (head of mic) or facing microphone to PA speakers can cause feedback. Please be careful when removing mic from stand. All microphones are regularly disinfected for health reasons. Microphone stands. If you wish for the microphone to remain in the stand, please use the proper adjustments to adjust to your height level, and arm distance. DO NOT adjust without using the proper adjustments on stand. Good practice is to adjust stand before you start to sing. If unsure please ask a band member or the MC. Happy Singing! COMING GUEST ARTISTS & THEME NIGHTS 19 th of May is talented Kim Cope same night we have the Beaudesert CMC And our theme for the night is the roaring twenties. So come dressed in your roaring 20 s outfits if you wish, Great night and heaps of fun. THE 2 ND OF June we have our Gorgeous Michele McAllister as our guest Artist. HOSPITAL Out of hospital and on the mend is our beautiful Patti Anderson. Julie is being released on weekends but she goes back in for rehab during the week, but well and truly on the mend. Juleen has also been in hospital, will try and catch up on her condition asap.
6 COUNTRY ESCAPE CAPERS These community-orientated days are certainly going well! Visitors, from near and far, with their amazing carers, join us on the 1 st and 3 rd Tuesdays each month. The club s dance floor, kitchen and car park buzz with activity. The way things are going, it won t be long before we ll be setting up tables, and dancing space of course, on our deck! The band, along with other club volunteers, has certainly had the place hopping. Most important of all though it s great to see the enjoyment the days bring to the dancers, audience members and raffle winners alike! Welcome to the recent new faces from Beaudesert, Jamboree Heights and Redland Bay!. That s it for now. Seeya soon Tuesdays June 5 th and 19 th. To reserve a table: dandmsheppard@optusnet.com.au or phone [Marilyn] If you d like extra information, or would like to see more of the days photos, check out Brigalow s website. Look for the Country Escape section! Marilyn s report Special thanks to our resident photographers, too!
