2 A. GOFF & SONS Dear Hereford Breeders & Friends Welcome to A. Goff & Sons 65th Annual Production Sale! Fellow Hereford Breeders, On behalf of the entire Goff family. I would like to invite you to our 65th Annual A. Goff & Sons Production sale. We hope that you will join us October 19th and 20th for a weekend of fellowship while appraising a quality offering of Hereford genetics. This is generally one of the most colorful weekends of the year and it s easy to see why this is often referred to as Almost Heaven As I sit here in the early morning hours, between rounds of checking fall calving heifers and putting the finishing touches on this sale catalog, I am humbled to have the opportunity to do my part in carrying on the family tradition. 108 years would seem like an eternity to keep a cowherd intact if we were talking about anything but a Hereford cow. The latest trend in the purebred business has been to turn generations as quickly as possible in the name of genetic progress. We didn t get where we are today and won t last another century if we get caught up in that game. It s easy to get caught up in today s cattle prices and what they may be tomorrow. When you buy quality Hereford genetics you are making a long term investment in a female that is built to last. As an example of this longevity let s take a look at Haught Brothers Lot 18 open heifer. She is the daughter of a 10-year-old cow. Her dam was born in 2008 to a 16-year-old cow. Her grandam was born in 1992 to an 11-year-old cow. In Lot 18 s three generation pedigree we are all the way back to Do you think those cows turned a profit? Keep this in mind when these bred heifers come through the ring and the thought enters your mind that it s going to take two or three feeder calves to pay the bill. To that, I d say what will her next eight to ten calves cost you? This is where most letters tell you about this being the best offering we ve ever had. That may be the case and it may not, but I can assure you that you will travel many miles to find a cowherd that has had as much emphasis placed on longevity as that of A. Goff & Sons. If you are a returning customer or may just be starting in the cattle business, know that we are more committed than ever to customer service and when you buy cattle from this sale you are not only a customer, but a friend and business partner as well. We will assist you in any way possible and look forward to working with you. We also would like to thank our guest consignors as they continue to bring some of their best year after year. If you start down the list it is another testament to the longevity built into the Hereford breed. Many of these breeders have been in the Hereford business for generations as well and I feel confident in saying that they would all agree that without the Hereford cow that likely wouldn t have been possible. If you can t tell, I have a deep belief in the value of the Hereford cow. One could argue that it s bred in me. There is much more that I could say but it s time for one last round through the pasture before bed. We look forward to seeing you soon and feel free to contact us if you need any assistance prior to the sale. Sincerely, Derek M.
