6 Our Philosophy WE CARE ABOUT NATURE Our roots are in the pristine natural world of Wyoming. To be able to experience this serene landscape and its fauna is unique, emotional and inspiring. It is our goal to conserve nature by keeping waste to a minimum and ethically using natural products that are provided to us. That is why our product offering is not influenced by short-lived fashion trends: it is timeless, versatile, and sustainable. As a brand, we uphold the belief that we must leave this earth better than we found it. 7 CATEGORY ABOUT PEOPLE Transforming a design concept into reality and knowing that only the efforts of many people make it possible is just short of a miracle. The dedication and experience of our teams in the United States, China, Canada and Europe is invaluable. Our Teton, Original and Jackson lines are manufactured by a factory in Qingdao, China. Established in 1996, this factory has managed to position itself as a leader in the technical outerwear industry, specializing in down jackets. Strongly committed to developing its personnel, the company has managed to form an experienced and consistent team with an average service length of 8 years. Our headwear is developed and knitted in Montréal, Canada. The supplier provides specialty beanies featuring recycled cashmere wool, which is made from using the yarn from worn sweaters. ABOUT SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL For our products we use sustainable materials and production processes. This is possible only by having partners who care and support the same values. We work closely with the German company Bauer Vliesstoffe, which makes the natural wool insulation lavalan. We also source all our leather from Tanneries Pechdo located in France. They are an expert in their field and process all their leather sustainably. One of our new partnerships is working with Re:down. They are a company who recycles down insulation from post consumer articles and through a cleaning and sanitizing process we are able to reuse in our own garments. Along with these three companies, many of our fabrics use natural fibers such as wool or cotton blended with recycled polyester. It is just a small step in creating more sustainable garments and reducing waste. We will continue to partner with companies that have similar values as our brand. OUR PHILOSOPHY WINTER 05

9 RESPECTED ROOTS Powderhorn was established in 1972 by John Horn and was born with the goal of introducing a new breed of ski mountaineering outerwear and gear. On his parent s farm, he began producing down vests with unique Western leather patches, knowing that they provided a greater level of comfort and durability. HISTORY 2018/2019 WINTER 07

10 COLLABORATION LAVALAN WOOL INSULATION The company Baur Vliesstoffe has existed since providing them with more than 100 years of experience in washing wool. They have been using their expertise to process wool into washable nonwovens for textile applications for 15 years. Wool is high-tech made by nature and is a resource with many fascinating properties. WOOL IS NATURAL a naturally renewed protein fiber from domestic farming. It is not grown as a resource, but it occurs naturally. WOOL BUFFERS HUMIDITY Wool fibers can absorb up to 30% of their dry weight in humid conditions in the form of water vapor and release it again without becoming wet. The scaly layer surrounding the wool fiber is however impermeable. This is why even a saturated wool fiber won t feel wet. WOOL PURIFIES THE AIR - Thanks to its high bio-reactivity, wool has the capability to bind odors and partially neutralize some of them. Lavalan wool padding is made of 100% virgin wool. It keeps you warm and cool, protects and insulates, is breathable, washable and hygienic. TANNERIES PECHDO LEATHER With Tanneries Pechdo we choose to work with an experienced company offering a long history in their field. Located in Millau, France an area which is known worldwide for its tannery expertise, Tanneries Pechdo has been manufacturing cowbellies for over 60 years. They are specialized in soft leather for gloves, garments and leather goods. Respect for the environment is fully integrated into their manufacturing process. From the delivery of raw hides to the shipment of all finish leathers, actions are performed to clean, sort and recycle waste generated by the tanning and dyeing. Along with this all leather made by the company is a by-product of animals in the milk and meat industry. Tanneries Pechdo ensures regular monitoring of their production, both on the mechanical characteristics of leathers and on safety standards. RE:DOWN RECYCLED DOWN INSULATION The recycled down insulation from Re:Down is a mix of 650-fill-power goose and duck down reclaimed from cushions, bedding and other used items that can t be resold. It is hypoallergenic, eco-friendly and offers the identical performance benefits to virgin down. For Re:Down, it was important to not only use recycled materials but maintain sustainability while processing the materials. Washing the down requires a lot of water and energy. For this reason, the factory in Hungary was built in a location where water springs up from the ground at a temperature of 38 degrees. The water is also recycled so at all times they only use water that is needed for treatment of the down. This results in less energy and spares additional costs. Not only will you have a garment that is using eco down insulation but you will know that it was processed using renewable energy, recycled water, following fair trade and causes no harm to animals. SCOTCHGARD PROTECTOR Over 55 years ago, 3M made an important discovery that captured America s attention: Scotchgard Protector. The revolutionary fabric protector was instantly embraced and is now one of the most wellknown and trusted brands in stain removal and water repellency. Throughout the years, 3M scientists proved their commitment to innovation by enhancing environmental, health and safety benefits that pass regulatory reviews of the U.S. EPA and other environmental agencies around the world, while delivering the same unparalleled results protection against dirt and stains and the ability to repel liquids. Scotchgard Protector Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is specifically designed for outdoor fabrics. It helps keep liquids beading up and rolling off clothing without compromising the fabrics natural feel or breathability. A smart non- porous membrane helps to absorb perspiration vapor and disperse it through the fabric. With smooth texture, high elasticity (4-way stretch) and a good drape, the garments enhance the wearer s comfort. POWDRY PowDRY is Powderhorn s own membrane. The C6 (short-chain) fluorocarbon based treatment provides high performance and has minimal environmental impact. POWECO PowEco is Powderhorn s own sustainable fabrics using recycled fibers. By using fibers made from plastic bottles, fishing nets or unusable materials, we help reduce landfill waste and toxic emissions. Using eco-friendly fabrics is important for us and you will find these fabrics throughout the line. POWWAX PowWAX is Powderhorn s own waxed treatment to protect fabrics against snow and rain. DRIRELEASE Drirelease s eco-friendly solutions keep customers cool, dry, fresh and comfortable. The patented drirelease yarn is a unique blend of synthetic and natural fibers. The brilliant combination of hydrophobic and hydrophilic fibers allows to pull wetness from the skin and release it into the air. The fabrics made with drirelease technology do not alter, the performance is permanent.
