1 IVDA Dress Restrictions Guidelines These are the guidelines for the IVDA dress restrictions as of November These are intended to illustrate and clarify what is and what is not allowed in the dress restricted events. Ultimately the IVDA Standing Committee (SC) have the final interpretation of these rules. Refusal to abide by an SC decision can result in any of the penalties laid out in the IVDA constitution. For changes to be made to these dress restrictions a motion must be presented prior to an IVDA AGM and then a vote must be taken at said AGM. Quorum must be met, as per the IVDA constitution. Precedent for the interpretation of these rules can be made by the SC. Any controversial or previously unencountered precedents should be recorded and presented to the general committee in the SC report of the following IVDA AGM. Excessive adornment: Adornment includes but is not limited to: any sparkles, sequins, diamante, feathers or glitter larger than a 7 cm-by-7 cm template. If you are unsure if a certain feature classes as adornment then please send a photo of the garment to an IVDA SC member for checking. Adornment can only be in one place on the garment. For example, a garment cannot have adornment on each shoulder, even if the combined area comes to less than a 7 cm-by-7 cm area. For example, a sparkly belt cannot be warn if the adornment therein extends around the whole length of the belt, as this would not fit within a 7 cm-by-7 cm area. For example, both the skirt and top of a lady s garments may not have adornment, unless they form a single area at the intersection of the garments within the allowed size. Men s wear: Ballroom: No practice wear ballroom shirts may be worn, such as those sold by DSI, Chrisanne or other dance retailers. Slim fit or other styles of fitted shirts bought from the high street can be worn. These shirts cannot be of a stretch material such that they could be classed as practice wear ballroom shirts as described above. Dinner jacket shirts can be worn. These shirts cannot be of a stretch material such that they could be classed as practice wear ballroom shirts as described above. Plain waistcoats may be worn. Accessories such as ties, bowties, cummerbunds, braces may be worn. Black latin trousers may be worn and may include a silk binding along the side, but may not have any other form of adornment. Dinner jacket trousers may be worn. Tailsuit trousers may not be worn.

3 Latin: The only practice wear designed specifically for dancing which can be worn are plain black turtle necked tops. Non-plain tops are those which include, for example: mesh material; lace; ruffles; any amount of adornment, as described above etc. The restrictions of colour and form mentioned above apply to other forms of sports tops including, but not limited to, tight rugby tops, running tops or other similar fitted sportswear. Fitted stretch practice shirts are not allowed, such as those sold by DSI, Chrisanne or other dance retailers. Black latin trousers may be worn and may include a silk binding along the side, but may not have any other form of adornment. Dinner jacket trousers may be worn. Tailsuit trousers may not be worn.

4 Ladies wear: Ballroom & Latin Tailor made dresses, skirts or tops are not allowed. Off the peg practice wear dresses are not allowed. Off the peg skirts and tops are allowed subject to the restrictions outlined below. Off the peg in this case means an item which has been bought from a retailer without any personal modifications or tailoring. It is the requirement of the owner of the garment to be able to prove that an item has been purchased off the peg if questioned. Such proof to satisfy the SC may include, for example: a web link or a brochure. Skirts with binding which is designed to give the skirt a defined shape is not allowed. Examples of materials for this purpose may include, but not be limited to: fishnet; crinoline; or plastic wire bindings. One layer of fringing at one section of the garment is allowed. The length of the fringe can be no longer than 10 cm. For example, one layer of fringing all the way round the dress is allowed as long as the length of the fringe is not over 10 cm. Ruffles on dresses or skirts are allowed in as many layers as desired. Plain trousers may be worn. Gloves must be plain they may have no adornment as detailed earlier in this document. Bracelets may be worn over gloves. Floats are not allowed. A float may be defined as any length of material which may extend behind the body during movement and is attached, in part, to any part of the arm, wrist or hand. Scarves are allowed but only if worn as such. A scarf may not be worn as a float.
