For example, do your employees work on or near electricity or energized parts? work with or near flammable liquids gas? If you answered Yes to any of these questions, you should consult with a safety professional to determine whether a protective apparel program may be required. As an employer, it is your responsibility to comply with industry standards and OSHA regulations to protect your employees from hazards they may encounter. After you have consulted with a safety professional and determined your employees PPE needs, can provide that PPE and design a laundry service program to fit your company s needs. weld or come in contact with molten metals? work in dimly lit/low visibility areas or along the roadway?
4 ELECTRIC ARC FLASH 6,000 Nearly 6,000 fatal electrical injuries have occurred since BLS Data 5-10 Between 5 and 10 electric arc flash explosions occur every day in the US* 35,000 F Electric Arc Flashes produce temperatures up to 35,000 F* According to the Fire Protection Research Foundation, electrical injuries represent a serious workplace health and safety issue. Failure to use appropriate PPE for electrical safety work practices, including FRC, contributes to many electrical injuries. OSHA s Workplace Safety Awareness Council defines an arc flash as a phenomenon where a flashover of electric current leaves its intended path and travels through the air from one conductor to another, or to the ground. The results are often violent and when a human is in close proximity to the arc flash, serious injury or even death can occur. NFPA 70E is an industry standard which outlines how to properly protect your employees and create a safe working environment, as well as help your company comply with government regulations. NFPA 70E applies to all personnel working on energized equipment greater than 50 volts or equipment that could produce an arc flash which means virtually every industry has employees at risk. *Bureau of Labor Statistics, as published by the Fire Protection Research Foundation in Occupational Injuries from Electrical Shock and Arc Flash Events report, March 2015.

6 FLASH FIRE 16% Fire and explosions are responsible for 16% of fatalities in oilfields* 1,000-1,900 F Hydrocarbon (oil and gas) flash fires generate temperatures of 1,000 to 1,900 degrees Fahrenheit.* According to OSHA, a flash fire is a fire that spreads rapidly through a diffuse fuel, such as dust, gas, or the vapors of an ignitable liquid, without the production of damaging pressure. Combustible dust is a concentration of airborne particles in a closed area which can be ignited by a spark or even static electricity, potentially causing a flash fire. OSHA enforces policy 29 CFR (a), the general industry standard for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This policy explains OSHA s position on providing and using Flame Resistant Clothing (FRC) in oil and gas well drilling, servicing and production-related operations. NFPA 2112 is the Standard on Flame-Resistant Garments For Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire. This standard provides minimum requirements for the design, construction, evaluation and certification of flame-resistant garments. The NFPA 2113 standard specifies the minimum selection, care, use and maintenance requirements for FR garments. *OSHA, "Enforcement Policy for Flame-Resistant Clothing in Oil and Gas Drilling, Well Servicing, and Production-Related Operations"
7 MOLTEN METAL SPLASH Molten metal splash commonly occurs when moisture or wet materials are introduced causing the metal to explode violently and throw dangerous molten metal into the air. 3,000 F Molten metal can reach temperatures up to 3,000 F, causing severe injury or death Failure to provide personal protective equipment designed for molten metal splash hazard is a serious infraction of OSHA standard 29 CRF , the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, and other regulations which can lead to convictions and fines.
