31 Q&A with Sarah Holme, SVP of Design Our Queen Mother of Design (yes, that should be Sarah s legit title) dishes on all things Spring 18, Old Navy musthaves for the season and her can t-live-without jeans. Why is now the right time for the Power Jean? This will be the jean of the year, hands down. The Power Jean is perfect for spring because it is as effortless as the skinny Rockstar. It is super feminine and easy to outfit, but gives you an additional element of comfort. Also, it s versatile you can dress it up or down. The Tiered Cami is our newest dress how does it make you feel? It s simple femininity. That s how I would sum up the Tiered Cami. The ease and elegance of this dress can turn an average day into an occasion. It captures an of-the-moment trend, but its simplicity allows it to become a style that is made to last. So, what comes to mind when you think of spring? Spring for me always represents new beginnings; the ability to start again. This was a key influence when we started to think about a less is more approach to the season and how we could better help the customer edit and curate their wardrobe. We are standing behind fewer, better ideas. Soft utility is a big part of the spring collection. What are some of your favorite pieces? Soft utility dressing is my favorite styling cue right now. It gives you an effortless sense of femininity as it uses a luminous, vegetal color range. The must-have piece is absolutely our utility romper. It allows ease of outfitting, versatility whilst* still feeling put together. How would you describe the spring collection? It s the perfect representation of the brand. It s playfully optimistic in its color and print expression, and there is a wonderful wink to our graphic tees and accessories, but it s all with an undertone of effortlessness. We wanted to start the season with an overtly happy, easy and inclusive approach that would make shopping a joyful experience for all. Do you have a favorite pair of jeans that you can t go without? The Power Jean (of course), with destruction. The more I wear them the more overt the destruction becomes. It s a denim journal and daily reminder of how lived in and loved they are. *Editor s Note: Sarah is very British and very cool. we wish we could get away with using words like whilst in conversation but alas.
