Recycled coffee bag planter photo courtesy of homedit.com Japonica hessian plant hanger photograph by Japonica West End Markets: Harvest Edition This August, the West End Markets: Harvest Edition celebrates fresh and locally grown food as a way of learning and reconnecting with the community. FORM has teamed up with Care for Hedland to bring Josh Byrne from ABC s Gardening Australia, who will present Growing food in the Pilbara: plants and practices for year round produce. The market will also welcome back Western Australian culinary identity, Sophie Budd and former Masterchef contestant Liliana Battle for cooking demonstrations, and singer Matt Cal for an acoustic performance. When and Where? The Market will run from 3:30-7:30pm on Saturday, 30 th August across the Courthouse Gallery Gardens, Glass Lane and Wedge Street near the Port Hedland Visitor Centre. The opportunity Inspired by the theme harvest we would like to explore the use of recycling old hessian coffee bags as a perfect malleable vessel to accommodate plants. Celebrating our coffee culture, FORM would like to invite the community of Port Hedland to explore ways in which hessian bags can be reused to create interesting, engaging and environmentally-friendly public spaces. The West End Markets taking place on August 30th presents a great opportunity to showcase your creative side by participating in our Green Design Challenge! Brief Design and create a temporary green installation using up to 10 hessian coffee bags, and plants to show the potential and possibilities of reusing and recontextualising materials. The design should be imaginative and innovative and explore new possibilities of activation and ways of engaging the public. Eligibility This is an open callout to all individuals, companies, organisations and institutions that would like to submit a design, to reuse hessian coffee bags to create a green installation. There is no entry fee and the final design will be chosen by an architect, urban planner and FORM Curator. Multiple designs may be chosen if we have enough materials to accomodate. Submission Specifications The installation s primary purpose must be to create greenery at the West End Market. Low budget is a strength - think resourcing, salvaging and borrowing materials. FORM will contribute $200 towards costs for the chosen design. Applications that have a solely commercial/advertising purpose will not be accepted. Artisan, local and bespoke products/services that also contribute to the activation of the markets will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Hessian coffee bags will be supplied, although applicants are required to design, source, install and de-install all aspects of their installation. Submissions are due on Thursday 14 th August. The Awards are open to bona-fide Broome Residents and will be exhibited at the Broome Civic Centre from 4th -
