memory MEMORY at International Fashion Showcase 2017 is held under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic Mr. Andrej Kiska
memory The presentation of Slovak fashion designers at the International Fashion Showcase is built on a concept of memory. Memory trace brings us back to the very beginning; memories are pushing us to face the fragment, local and unique. The visitor gets the opportunity of discovery. The basic concept follows last year s installation, where the art work of the presented collections gets us closer to the process of the creation and thoughts of the designers. In the exhibition space where the objects are placed and mixed, they get a unique code. Visitors can freely interact with the objects and after putting it on a special table memory reader an association with the object is transmitted to the object via computer. The visitor s experience will always be unique and special. The young generation of designers will again introduce their collections in 2017 in London. Jakub Straka and Silvia Zrebná belong to this young generation and they are still students at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. With their sensitivity when crafting their work with material and volume, they have already caught the eye at the student and out-of-school presentations. Creations of Andrea Pojezdálová, who is freshly graduated from university, were in the recent years generously crowned with success at many competitions. This is her third time attending London s IFS. Her handwriting is in monochrome colours and her work is based upon antique drapery and sophisticated design. Maybe it is only a subjective observation, but the last collections of Martin Hrča carry a certain Slavic melancholy. This back-to-the-roots concept is shown by his use of traditional materials such as linen fabrics and fur. His cooperation with Kristína Španihelová, the auctorial jewellery designer, allowed new connections of clothing and unconventional detail. Zuzana Németh Serbáková is a graduate from the Academy of Arts Architecture and Design in Prague and she will introduce her collection of shoes in London. She has worked in the past for a few shoe labels, but now she is focused on her own line of women handcrafted shoes and tailored creations for individual clients. Each piece of fashion carries its own story, bringing us back to the yearnings of an individual. Fashion is a thread, which connects all the dreams, once between villages, but now between continents. What was once local is now global. The appointment of Ján Šicko /concept and intermedia art/, Oliver Kleinert /architecture/ and Jonatán Pastirčák /sound design/ will project this show in front of the fashion world of London. Mgr. Zuzana Šidlíková, PhD. Zuzana Šidlíková studied History of Art at the Comenius University and Fashion Design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD) in Bratislava, Slovakia. She also did an internship at the design schools in Prague and in German Kiel and Hamburg. She worked shortly in Slovak National Gallery and as an editor of the design magazine Designum in the Slovak Design Centre. In 2010 she finished her PhD. thesis at the AFAD. She was employed as a Research Fellow and Lecturer of the AFAD. Currently, since January 2016 she is a curator of the fashion and textile collections in new Slovak Design Museum. She is the author of the book Fashion in Slovakia during the Inter-War Period ( ), Textile Art and Design in 20th - 21th Century, and co-author of the anthology Fashion in Slovakia, Short Fashion History.
jš dk Ján Šicko, visual artist: The local is a limited space of specific features. The local can be somewhat isolated and it knows just about itself. It is limited by its geographical space and from such position it cannot grow further. Nevertheless, the local can also hide a real treasure in its purity and authenticity. The global, on the contrary, perceives a wider context and is able to create a mind construct based on a comparison. The global has thus inner ability to transcend borders of the local and enable it to reach truly universal level. Presentation of Slovak fashion designers is based on the concept of memory. Their artworks are presented in the shape of memory fragments. Visitors are invited to discover them and in interactive way to create their own memory footprints. These will encompass the whole image of presented artworks, processes of their origin and minds connected to the creative process. Physical objects mixed and deployed around the installation frame in the exhibition room represent designer artworks. All of these objects carry unique digital codes. Visitors are invited to interact with them as they might wish while placing them on the central table called consciousness triggers an association on every object that will be projected through the installation. The experience is unique each time for every attender. Visitors can return multiple times and explore again and again another corners of (yet undiscovered) presented artworks. They are free to explore particular designer(s) or just randomly wander in the space and their own mind like in a checkered memory mosaic. Dana Kleinert, Slovak Fashion Council / chairwoman In Slovak Fashion Council we support promising creative talents that deserve unique space for presentation. Connecting fashion and new technologies comes naturally nowadays and enables showcased designers to stand out, both on their own as well as within the encompassing story. In this interactive installation titled MEMORY our team attempted to connect art, technology and craftsmanship in exciting fusion, where (as we believe) lies the future of fashion. We are really happy we are able to present you the outcome of interdisciplinary cooperation of extremely talented creatives, showing their work and way of thinking together here in London, for the 4-th time at IFS It is an honor and commitment for us that MEMORY at International Fashion Showcase 2017 is held under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic Mr. Andrej Kiska.
ok jp Oliver Kleinert, architect Memory is installation based on associations, feelings, synapses, neurons... Generally I enjoy working with playful architecture which underlines the whole story. Cube is a simple object you can step into and suddenly you ll start to live another life. It attracts you to explore the objects, to enjoy the story of fragments, the sound and the light. Threads woven into the cube represent synapses carrying the information, created by our experiences and knowledge. I think that small-scale architecture is the future of public spaces. We need such interventions to play, to enjoy, to explore their sculptural side. With this idea in mind architects are capable to create bigger and sustainable urban projects. Jonatán Pastirčák, sound designer I like to explore, to experiment with sound in different contexts. Interactive installation representing emerging fashion designers is a first time experience for me. It has been a challenge to create specific atmosphere which people would remember, by combining fragments of actual objects, visual perceptions and sound. Sound is often based on the second or the third plan and it builds on subconscious associations of the audience. That is something I enjoy about it.

Inspired by working class, steel workers, miners and inspiration of Dominik Skutezky paintings. instagram.com/strakajakub Jakub Straka is a Slovak, Bratislava based designer currently studying his MA at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His garments are created with an attention to detail, precision and craftsmanship. The design process begins with research, followed by sampling and is focused on fine hand crafted techniques. He often uses natural textile materials such as linen and wool. Jakub Straka s clothing collections tend to reveal the pure and vulnerable part of female soul and encourage women to express their individuality at the same time.

andrea pojezdálová NOIR With the NOIR collection unveiled at this year s IFS, I have indirectly build on my works presented last year. After last year s Return to the roots, my current collection focuses on finding and defining the certain base and gist of my previous works. Relating to previous collections through basic forms, monochrome colors and the use of my own handwriting, I have created an integrated and minimalistic collection, which highlights the culture of consumerism and excess which surrounds us. By focusing on quality and using local options, I am trying to find a more sustainable way to create fashion. behance.net/andrea_pojezdalova facebook.com/andreapojezdalova Andrea Pojezdálová is a young Slovak fashion designer. She studied fashion design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. She was a winner of the Brilliance Fashion Talent competition in 2011, the International Re-Act Fashion competition in 2011, Fresh fashion designer in 2014, She was the best fashion graduate in 2015 and best designer in She focuses on women s fashion collections. Her timeless dresses can be characterized by smooth lines, limited colour, unusual patterns and combinations of materials. She often uses contrasts of flat and structured surfaces in her designs to create silhouettes of her dresses. She likes to work using traditional textile techniques which she creatively puts into a modern form. Garments combine conceptual minimalism with high quality materials and a perfect craftsmanship. All the collections are specially designed for the individual and are produced in the Slovak republic.

martin hrča MURMURING IN DUSK This collection is inspired by nature and by it s fascinating power. It is about endless silence, which induces dreaming. It is about finding yourself in-between the first snowflakes. It is about the relationship between the hunter and the victim, and about changing these roles. It is about the haptic experience from natural structures. It is wild and at the same time gentle. Hard as well as brittle. martin.hrca@gmail.com Martin Hrča is a young Slovak fashion designer. He studied fashion design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava gaining an academic degree MFA/Master of Arts/. He also attended an Internship in the design studio Sruli Recht, in Reykjavik, Iceland (2013); Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Czech Republic, Footwear and Fashion design studio ( ); University of Performing Arts in Bratislava, division of Theatre costume creating ( ). 12 silvia zrebna YOU & ME People and animals are joined together by the unthinkable aspect of being, by INSTINCTS! I have put these two worlds together. The process of creating was based on instinct. I was creating instinctively. The designs and patterns weren t thought through before the realization. It was done in the heat of the moment and the emotional condition, by which I wanted to express the equivalence of acting of both people and animals. Materials are in contrast: polyester with animal hair print, faux fur and wool. The original fabric print which I designed is the animal hair texture pattern. Cooperation with potter Štefan Sekáč, who has made porcelain hats and accessories, brings the collection to the next level. FB: silvia zrebna Instagram: silvia_zrebna Silvia Frohlich Zrebná is a student of the Master s degree program at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. She studies at the Fashion design studio, where she already received her BA degree. She has also the Dis. degree from The College of Fashion Design Prague. During the studies, she took part in various exhibitions, competitions and artistic projects. Since 2015, she has been selling clothing and fashion accessories in the Slávica design shop in Bratislava. She took part in the Bratislava Fashion Days 2016 and the Fashion Week in Košice 2015 and she got the first prize at Talent design competition 2013 in Fashion design category. She worked as a personal stylist in Prague. During her Prague studies, she participated in many fashion shows, such as Code Mode, Glamour and students fashion shows. She has the experience in textile technology, constructions and pattern cutting, the manufacture of clothes and organization of fashion shows.

zuzana serbak LOMOZ The shoe collection LOMOZ is composed of simplistically shaped minimalistic silhouettes with differently structured surfaces and haptic elements, with incorporated functional components. Layering and overlapping is applied to achieve different textures as well as infracting and applying silicon to the surface of leather and textile materials. Lomoz is about spreading sound and noise, oscillation and vibration, and all of the discomfort and distraction, subconsciously perceived when exposed to the noise and visual smog of the city. instagram.com/zuzanaserbak_shoes facebook.com/zuzanaserbak Zuzana Németh Serbáková is a footwear designer from Slovakia. She graduated from the Arts Architecture and Design College in Prague with Master degree in Footwear design in She also completed a design internship within Last Shoes in London (2008), then worked for Roberto Del Carlo in Italy ( ) as a shoe designer and collaborated with many brands and fashion designers as freelancer. Along with the commercial works, she started her own line of women s footwear as Zuzana Serbak, making handmade shoes for individual customers. Her shoes were exhibited in the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the International Shoe Museum Vigevano in Italy and Grassi Museum of Applied Arts in Germany. With her graduation project, she is a finalist of ITS#TEN Trieste and TALENTE Munich.

Slovak with an English ancestry one lamp, three identities Local and global. Read the story. It was originally made in England and survived through the first Czechoslovakian Republic, Slovak state and through the period of Czechoslovakian socialism. This is the table lamp known as Plastalite and by the alias Futurit 202 type At the time the first lamp was manufactured, the factory was owned by Eric Kirkham Cole, who opened a large factory producing radio receivers in Southendon-Sea, in Cole understood rather quickly, that Bakelite was a miraculous product, which allows designers to show their creativity. In 1931 Cole officially launched his own factory in Southend-on-Sea, producing Bakelite products and centralised all his production in England. Bakelite radios, lamps, toilet seats and during the Second World War also Bakelite bombs, were manufactured on his assembly lines. After the war, the factory produced mainly televisions, car radios, electric blankets, tape recorders, plastic dishes and plastic bathroom furniture. When it came to designing his products, Cole co-operated with famous world designers, such as J.K. White, Misha Black, Serge Chermayeff, Jesse Collins and Wells Coates. In 1930 Wells Coates, a designer of Canadian background but born in Japan, designed some interesting lamps made solely out of Bakelite, with a large stand and base. Interestingly enough, at the same time, Christian Dell ( ) had designed a very similar lamp in Germany, which has been, since 1932, made at Heinrich Römmler AG Preßstoffwerke, Spremberg. Both lamps are very similar to each other, but who copied who will stay a mystery! It wasn t long before a cable factory in Bratislava called Gummon bought a licence from EKCO to produce Plastalite lamps in its own factories. It was named 202 and from this creation came the Futurit, the marketing name for Bakelite. After the nationalisation of the Cable factory the production philosophy changed. The label Futurit soon disappeared. In 1950 the production of lamps moved to the newly established company, Elektrosvit Nové Zámky, where the production continued under the changed name of Three lamps, different only in subtle details. The local product, produced in the likeness of the others, different only in the time, place and country of manufacture.
