4 VISION Hong Kong pioneer the global fashion industry for revolutionary change, to create a systemic change of the fashion industry that leads to sustainable development, while at the same time strengthening the competitiveness of this industry. MISSION Promoting Hong Kong to establish a Sustainable Fashion Hub, as Hong Kong is the world s knowledge base for sustainable development practices and lead the global fashion industry in the implementation of sustainable development practices. 4
5 BACKGROUND OF SUSTAINABLE FASHION Today, the desire for fast fashion has created demand for 80 billion new garments a year Throwaway consumer culture A tendency that promotes overproduction, overconsumption and waste The economic models are driven by profit; consumers are mostly driven by price. When consumers demand lower prices, fashion companies will try to maintain profits by pressuring suppliers Campaigns such as Greenpeace s DETOX and the Clean Clothes Campaign have forced a multitude of brands to change existing behaviors and production policies A balance of the triple bottom line principle: People, Planet and Profit, three pillars of sustainability 5

They are committed to ensuring sustainable profitability and growth as well as to reducing our impact on the environment through effective waste management, energy efficiency and pollution prevention. 11

14 STRAGETIC GOALS OF THE HUB Short term (1-2 years) Provide sustainable fashion information, technology and tools to maximize HK competitiveness, enable economic growth for HK fashion industry and enhance the global influences on environmental sustainability Identity and endorse leading sustainable standards Medium term (2-3 years) Foster science and technological leadership by enhancing innovation in sustainable fashion, and bring positive social impacts in the global fashion industry Long term (3 4 years) Preserve Hong Kong s position as the Global Sustainable Fashion leader, and maximize long-term return to stakeholders while being mindful of our overall responsibilities. 14
15 OBJECTIVES Short term (1-2 years) Provide sustainable fashion information, technology and tools to maximize HK competitiveness, enable economic growth for HK fashion industry and enhance the global influences on environmental sustainability Identity and endorse leading sustainable standards Activities: Establish a global online platform and comprehensive database of global sustainable fashion business and resources Organize a global fashion summit to gather international key players from the global fashion industry, as well as experts, NGOs, media and politicians, in HK to catalyze a discussion on the evolution of a successful fashion industry in a world where new business models are required to tackle the growing sustainability challenges facing the planet and the societies Establish sustainable fashion business through third party verification/ certification programs to ensure credible and trustworthy data backed up by a robust due diligence process 15
16 OBJECTIVES Medium term (2-3 years) Foster science and technological leadership by enhancing innovation in sustainable fashion, and bring positive social impacts in the global fashion industry Activities: Seek more innovative solutions by HKRITA to make the best products or technologies using less resource, energy and water Partner with industry to provide technical leadership Provide financial assistance to the SMEs for encouraging them in implementing such measures as waste discharge reduction and energy conservation etc. Encourage people-oriented management in order to enhance the living standard and employability 16
17 OBJECTIVES Long term (3 4 years) Preserve Hong Kong s position as the Global Sustainable Fashion leader, and maximize long-term return to stakeholders while being mindful of our overall responsibilities. Activities: Sustainable Fashion Summit HK strives to serve as an inspiration for solutions and opportunities Promote the transparency and traceability of the fashion supply chain by adopting international certification tools Facilitate collaboration and encourage to build strategic partnerships between HK enterprises and international brand customers Coordinate with global policymakers at all levels to speed up the transformation of the fashion industry 17

19 SECRETARY OFFICE OF THE SUSTAINABLE FASHION HUB It is imperative for HK to establish a Sustainable Fashion Hub to turn HK into International knowledge base for Sustainable Fashion To set up a Secretary Office to achieve the mission and fulfill the vision The stakeholders in advisory board of Sustainable Fashion Hub are government, leading clothing retailers, manufacturers, institutions and NGOs 19
20 THE ROLE The hub is a platform to seek the input from different stakeholders. It is connected global consumers, retailers, manufacturers, suppliers and policymakers to sustainability, and make real progress towards sustainability HUB 20
21 RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Liaise with global policy-makers to enhance the collaborations 2. Set up different policies on sustainable fashion development 3. Policies implementation 4. Provide PR and marketing support 21
22 MAIN ACTIVITIES 1. Establish an electronic platform exclusively on the Global Sustainable Fashion Database Chemical & others Suppliers Manufacturers Certification Designers & Brands 2. Develop and hold an international certification (i.e. Bluesign/ ISO/ Higg Index) 3. Organise an annual signature event Sustainable Fashion Summit HK 4. Create a platform to connect the global institutes to integrate sustainability into their training and education activities 5. Co-organise with Estethica (London) a Sustainable Fashion Award in Hong Kong 6. Set up a Sustainable Fashion Fund for encouraging SMEs to assist them in their transformation and upgrading process to meet new challenges 22
