2 2 ABOUT US 3 GOOD REASONS 3 In 53 years of activity Accademia Costume & Moda has developed a strong relationship with the fashion and entertainment industry in order to design academic programmes aimed at providing an all-round educational experience with the final objective of career placement and development. 1 ACCREDITATION The 1st Level Master's programme is accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and is worth 60 ECTS. Today some of the most important professionals in the world, Creative Directors, Illustrators, Head Designers, Academy Award and David di Donatello winners, are alumni of our academy and continue to collaborate with us in order to keep a contemporary approach while defending and maximising our cultural experience, DNA of Accademia Costume & Moda, and of any job linked to creativity. This allows Accademia and its students to maintain a contemporary and updated positioning both academically as well as from an industry need perspective. 3 ROME 2 The experience of studying in Rome can be truly unique and very personal. The inspiration that an individual can draw from Rome's culture, history and beauty are unquestionable. In this sense, it can not be a coincidence that important companies such as BVLGARI, GUCCI, FENDI and VALENTINO as well as important Costume Makers are born in Rome or have chosen the Eternal City as their creative hub. Our students, after having absorbed Rome's heritage, work and travel globally enriched with this unique atmosphere.

3 4 DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION 5 Adrien Yakimov Roberts Coming from North Wales, UK, Adrien moved to London in the early 1980s to study at the prestigious St. Martin s School of Art (now known as Central St. Martin s). The illustrative element of designing was natural to Adrien therefore was delighted to take up the opportunity to study Fashion Illustration at Parson s School of Design in New York. Working for Paul Smith in one of his first stores, he decided to continue his studies in menswear area of fashion at the Royal College of Art of London. Adrien worked for many menswear brands, principally in Italy, before setting up his own business under his own name. After gaining experience at teaching at different levels at some of the top fashion schools Adrien eventually took the role of Head of Design at London College of Fashion, participating in a teaching learning project with University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Moving up to the role of Programme Leader Fashion Design, Enterprise & Innovation at University of the Creative Arts, UK, gave Adrien the first experience in curriculum development and validation processes. During this time Adrien was elected to the Executive Committee of Graduate Fashion Week London, still a member of the committee today Adrien has worked with alongside many UK fashion university leaders in creating an internationally renowned event. When offered the opportunity to move back to Italy for Istituto Marangoni, in Milan as Group Director of Education to develop and validate courses with Manchester Metropolitan University, Adrien saw this as the chance to develop his skills further whilst returning back to Italy which he had always considered his home. Adrien is the Director of Education of Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome since 2014, in order to implement the internationalization of the academy and support the Italian fashion industry through education.

4 6 MASTER'S DIRECTOR 7 Michela Leto di Priolo Michela Leto di Priolo begins her career in fashion since the late 1970es. In CERRUTI FEMME 1881 she is Product Manager for both style and operations, referring directly to Nino Cerruti and to the brand CEO. In 1980 she joins Valentino, where she works until In the early period, Michela was involved in the creative coordination of Women's licences rising to becoming head of business segment. She then also coordinated the Accessory and Home licences. In these roles, Michela was managing 2 laboratories with 2 premieres and 40 employees in addition to 4 vendeuse for the Alta Moda segment. Her reporting lines were the group CEO Matteo Marzotto and group Creative Director Valentino Garavani himself. With the acquisition of Valentino by private equity fund Permira and subsequent sale of the company to Mayhoola, between 2009 and 2012 Michela was Director head of Alta Moda: from production to pricing, to managing and coordinating the Artistic Director and Creative team in choosing fabrics, materials, embroideries and special items with a team of 7 senior and junior staff as well as 3 laboratories dedicated to Alta Moda. Beginning with the 2016/2017 academic year, Michela is the coordinator of Accademia Costume & Moda's Master's programme in Alta Moda, Fashion Design.

6 10 THE MASTER'S PROGRAMME 11 Traditionally Alta Moda (Haute Couture) refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted fashion garments, constructed by hand from start to finish, utilising high quality fabrics, decorations and embroideries, with extreme attention to detail. Many of the most important fashion companies design a form of couture, which then inspires and contaminates, with its trends and concepts, other product categories in the company positioned in differing market segments. The designers of Alta Moda express their ideas through the development of luxury garments that enhance the aesthetic image of the wearer, in consideration of the nature of the event or occasion for which it was designed. Currently, the new generations of designers at the top of the most important fashion companies, are transforming and reinterpreting the field of Couture. They are experimenting and utilising innovative fabrics that until now have been chosen primarily for ready-to-wear, tranforming them into luxury items by the use of the highest level of craftsmanship. The sector's objective is to attact a new younger generation of "star" clients while at the same time developing a new generation of emerging and fresh designers with the necessary skills and experience to innovate the fast-changing market needs. 8 14 PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES 15 This full-time Master s course in Alta Moda, Fashion Design is designed for graduates who want to complete and/or deepen their skills, cultural and professional training in this high-end unique sector of the fashion industry: from research, experimentation, new innovative design through to implementation. Italian Haute Couture, Alta Moda, was born in Rome, a city where the contaminations between craftsmanship, historical architectures, contemporary and ancient art, constitute a unique place where to redefine beauty and find continuous inspiration. Today the city also being a centre for contemporary art feeds into the cultural life of our students and their work.it's a 1-year journey characterised by intensive theoretical and practical studies involving in-depth research, experimental workshops and learning through the study of couture techniques. Time will also be invested in understanding artistic and cultural references with also a focus on organizational skills necessary to complete design projects for the Alta Moda segment. Students will analyse technically, historically and from a sociological view, how Alta Moda has strongly influenced fashion across a variety of market sectors and how it is being transformed today. This analysis also takes on a practical form through workshops and project work. Many methods are used in Alta Moda to create unique luxurious garments that meet the requirements of this demanding sector and of its clients. With this in mind the course encourages students to undertake an in-depth study of embellishment and through experimentation and realization. propose new methods of decoration and construction. Other distinctive signature is draping, element to the construction and attractiveness of couture garments. Students will create and define new beauty through the study of traditional and innovative 3D methods, so to enhance their individual perspective in fashion design, building their own creative identity. Participants will also have the opportunity to gain direct experience developing research projects on specific topics chosen among various areas of fashion, collaborating with leading professionals and the most prestigious brands. At this level of study students need to have a good working understanding of marketing and project management, skills necessary for successful teamwork and entrepreneurship. At the end of the Master's successful students will have a portfolio o f design work backed up with experimentations and final garments (collection) in order to support interviews with enabling access to their chosen career. 9 16 TARGET 17 This Master s course is aimed at those who have successfully completed a recognised first degree (typically BA equivalent to Level 6 of EQF-European Qualifications Framework), in a subject area relevant to this course, and wish to study with the aim to seriously focus on a career in Alta Moda / Haute Couture: -- Students who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in a design discipline or a subject area linked to the Master s Course: YES; -- Humanistic and Liberal Arts degree students who have successfully completed an undergraduate course not linked to the specialist area of the Master s: YES, but the Course Council will evaluate the single application to understand the suitability and level of preparation of the candidate. -- Industry Professionals of the sector and students who have not completed a recognised undergraduate degree, but have completed private courses within the subject area of the Master s course: YES, but will not receive a recognised Master s degree, but rather a certificate of participation. Due to demand and the limited number of places available (to maintain the quality and high level of study), the successful completion of an admission assessment, based on an interview and presentation of a Fashion Portfolio, are required in order to gain access to the course. 10 18 SUBJECT AREAS THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL AREA The first part is functional to knowledge and research through cultural and historical modules and to the evolution of style in respect to haute couture garments. Moreover students will acquire competences on fabrics and materials and the related experimental and technological aspects. THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL AREA History & Semiotics of Alta Moda & Couture Luxury Specialist Fabrics & their properties Computer Technology TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC AREA The second part is fundamental to understand the market, the industrial and artisanal districts, the production and laboratorial processes linked to Alta Moda, and the importance of the archives, the suppliers and the trade fair system. Moreover the students will deal with brand positioning, communication and marketing strategies, and analytical approaches to costs and marginality so to allow them to have all of the necessary tools to understand the demi couture and haute couture markets. TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL AREA The third part is operational and provides the students with the technical competences needed to reinterpret Alta Moda, an approach based on new trends and technological research contaminating new shapes, cuts and volumes with traditional Italian craftsmanship, embroidery, embellishments and applications. At the end, the students will complete their project, study of the silhouette, proportions and technical constructions, to design and develop a collection that may be individual, contemporary while reflecting history. TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL AREA Practical Analysis of Couture and Trends Alta Moda 3D Design and Draping Workshops Luxury Fashion Trends & Beyond trend Embellishment Experimentation, Design & Realization Fashion Visual Communication Alta Moda Collection Design Seminars and workshops with model makers and tailors and/or designers of prestigious international maisons, external visits to archives, industry and fairs will be part of the curricular experience. PROJECT WORK INTERNSHIP 100 HOURS TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC AREA Fashion System of Alta Moda & Couture Marketing Project Management The Master s in Alta Moda, Fashion Design Final Project Work consists in a capsule collection together with related research and portfolio. Research internship (tot. 100 hrs) within sector related companies, in line with interests, attitudes and profiles of the students at the end of their educational path.

14 26 MEETINGS & WORKSHOP 27 Part of the educational experience of our Master s Degrees is the possibility to visit companies, maison and manufacturers, discover the archives, attend industry-related trade fairs (for example, Lineapelle for leathergoods), and workshops and/or lectures held at Accademia Costume & Moda by leading industry professionals. For example among the professionals that shared their ideas and work with our students for AY 2015/2016 were Alessandro Michele, alumnus and Creative Director Gucci, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Menswear and Accessories Creative Director, Fendi, who inaugurated the 2016/2017 academic year with renowned illustrator Stefano Canulli (also alumnus of Accademia Costume & Moda). Moreover, Human Resources (H.R.) and Talent Development managers of companies such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Fendi, LVMH, Dolce e Gabbana and many more come to present and to meet students of Accademia Costume & Moda. 15 28 CAREERS & PLACEMENT 29 Upon completion of the Master's course, the Careers & Placement office of Accademia Costume & Moda, in collaboration with some of the main companies within the fashion industry, seeks to facilitate students to find job opportunities available in the Italian and international markets. The Accademia has a 84% placement ratio because of its educational quality level, reputation in the market place and track record of its student population in terms of attitude and level of preparation. To be interviewd for admission the candidate must request the meeting by writing an to our Orientation and Marketing office: b. Once received the application, the Orientation and Marketing office will confirm the date and time of the admission interview with a Course Council member. The interview will take place at Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome or alternatively via Skype. For their admission interview, students are required to prepare: 1. Curriculum Vitae 2. Portfolio 3. Motivational letter Interview results will be communicated within 7 working days. Following a positive interview result, students will receive a formal offer for a place in the Master's together with the relevant documentation necessary to formalise the enrollment procedure. The required documentation will include: 1. Undergraduate certificate / diploma 2. Previous academic curriculum, inlcuding exam grades, course and subject description 3. Copy of valid identity document (e.g. Passport) 4. Copy of Fiscal Code (if available) 5. N.3 passport-size photographs 6. Residence permit for non-european Union (non- EU) residents. Upon request, Accademia Costume & Moda will issue the necessary documentation to enable non-eu students to obtain a VISA. Accademia Costume & Moda offers scholarships for its courses. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS The main language of the Master's course is Italian. However, international students will be facilitated by a simultaneous translation in English for all classroom hours of the course. Moreover, didactic material will be provided also in English.
