2 2 ABOUT US 3 GOOD REASONS 3 In 53 years of activity Accademia Costume & Moda has developed a strong relationship with the fashion and entertainment industry in order to design academic programmes aimed at providing an all-round educational experience with the final objective of career placement and development. 1 ACCREDITATION The 1st Level Master's programme is accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and is worth 60 ECTS. Today some of the most important professionals in the world, Creative Directors, Illustrators, Head Designers, Academy Award and David di Donatello winners, are alumni of our academy and continue to collaborate with us in order to keep a contemporary approach while defending and maximising our cultural experience, DNA of Accademia Costume & Moda, and of any job linked to creativity. This allows Accademia and its students to maintain a contemporary and updated positioning both academically as well as from an industry need perspective. 3 ROME 2 The experience of studying in Rome can be truly unique and very personal. The inspiration that an individual can draw from Rome's culture, history and beauty are unquestionable. In this sense, it can not be a coincidence that important companies such as BVLGARI, GUCCI, FENDI and VALENTINO as well as important Costume Makers are born in Rome or have chosen the Eternal City as their creative hub. Our students, after having absorbed Rome's heritage, work and travel globally enriched with this unique atmosphere.
3 4 DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION 5 Adrien Yakimov Roberts Coming from North Wales, UK, Adrien moved to London in the early 1980s to study at the prestigious St. Martin s School of Art (now known as Central St. Martin s). The illustrative element of designing was natural to Adrien therefore was delighted to take up the opportunity to study Fashion Illustration at Parson s School of Design in New York. Working for Paul Smith in one of his first stores, he decided to continue his studies in menswear area of fashion at the Royal College of Art of London. Adrien worked for many menswear brands, principally in Italy, before setting up his own business under his own name. After gaining experience at teaching at different levels at some of the top fashion schools Adrien eventually took the role of Head of Design at London College of Fashion, participating in a teaching learning project with University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Moving up to the role of Programme Leader Fashion Design, Enterprise & Innovation at University of the Creative Arts, UK, gave Adrien the first experience in curriculum development and validation processes. During this time Adrien was elected to the Executive Committee of Graduate Fashion Week London, still a member of the committee today Adrien has worked with alongside many UK fashion university leaders in creating an internationally renowned event. When offered the opportunity to move back to Italy for Istituto Marangoni, in Milan as Group Director of Education to develop and validate courses with Manchester Metropolitan University, Adrien saw this as the chance to develop his skills further whilst returning back to Italy which he had always considered his home. Adrien is the Director of Education of Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome since 2014, in order to implement the internationalization of the academy and support the Italian fashion industry through education.

6 10 THE MASTER'S PROGRAMME 11 In collaboration with some of the most important costume-making companies and costume accessories makers (hats, shoes, bags, jewellery), make-up and headgear crafters for national and international cinema and theatre productions, known worldwide for their excellence, creativity, craftsmanship and interpretative capacity. The role of the costume designer is fundamental in the opera house: an artist who knows costume history and tradition, its roots, anthropological and psychological interpretations, emotional suggestions, that through his creations dictates the measure of time in which the story takes place, the psychology of the characters, faithfully reflecting what is expressed in music. It could not have been anywhere else, other than Italy, that a Master's programme in costume design, focused on these two extraordinary forms of entertainment, opera and ballet, could be developed. Italy, the country of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Caravaggio Furthermore, the Master's programme, allows our students, thanks to a three-year agreement signed between Accademia Costume & Moda and theatre production company GITIESSE Artisti Riuniti, directed by Geppy Gleijeses and the Quirino Theatre in Rome, a hands-on experience in the preparation of their final project, signing as costume designers their first real-life play, which for A.Y. 2015/2016 was "the Materassi Sisters" Example of a production book - Costume Department, Accademia Costume & Moda

8 14 PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES 15 This Master s course is intended to deepen the cultural and professional educational path as a costume designer from design to implementation. It's a training of intensive theoretical and practical studies, scientific research and laboratory workshop practice, offering the important design and technical tools to designing, draping, application of tailoring techniques and elements of costume acessories. From wigs, make-up, jewellery, shoes and headgear up to the study of art and principal styles as a source of inspiration and workshop techniques designed to capture not only creative abilities but also as project work and organization skills. The Master s course provides projects that simulate the learning path from iconographic research to the elaboration of design up to the execution of the actual costume. Providing that all the elements are in place, the analysis of fashion through the ages and the adaptation of these styles to the requirements of the performance. A 360 degree approach dealing with (in addition to all the artistic & creative issues), technical work, production related issues involved in the realization of a performance through the analysis of the opera libretto, understanding the music needs, the kind of choreographic, as well as technical and administrative aspects. This course includes a series of seminars / testimonials by renowned costume designers, set designers, dancers, actors, directors as well as in-depth guided tours at costumier tailors, theatres, museums and art galleries. The goal is to create professionals who have the skills to meet the demands of ballet and opera productions but mostly come in contact with the reality of specialized costumiers. Our aim is to shape and train the future assistant costume desigenrs, professional costumiers able to work at both national and international levels in Opera and Ballet since graduates will be able to analyse and creatively interpret the theme proposed by a text of Opera or Ballet; perform in-depth historical research; realize the sketches of costumes of various characters required by the text, accompanied by the relevant sampling of fabrics required; direct and follow the tailoring during the development of the costumes; design accessories, makeup and wigs needed for a production. During the Academic Year 2015/2016 the Accademia Costume & Moda has signed a three-year agreement developed with GITIESSE Artisti Riuniti, directed by Geppy Gleijeses and the Quirino Theatre that has allowed our Master's students to experience with direct hands the professional world, signing costumes for the theatre production "Sorelle Materassi" or "Materassi Sisters", with renowned Italian actors Lucia Poli, Milena Vukotic and Marilù Prati, were designed by our students led by Master's Director Andrea Viotti and produced and crafted with the collaboration and support of prestigious costume house Sartoria Farani. The debut of the show was August 2016 at the national festival "Festival Teatrale di Borgio Verezzi", during which the play was awarded with the "Critics Choice Award" and continued its tour in some of the most important theatres across Italy including the "Stabile di Torino" in Turin and "Teatro della Pergola" in Florence. A unique opportunity in the costume educational field and a great honour for our Master's students, who had the opportunity to work on a real-life, professional theatre production.
